whiplash mitigation

while im working on building neck strength, im pretty concerned with neck injury after having been ripped good a couple of times

what i have
- huge shoulders
- titanium brig that covers the collarbone
- chain aventail

most of my team doesnt wear separate gorgets because they have plate aventails. i am planning to fight ren fairs, not competitively

what sort of gorget should i get that will mostly support the neck and not be insane overkill? i was almost considering using a lighter hardened leather gorget (from my SCA armor pile) simply because its main job is neck support

thoughts?

actual tariff amounts paid?

no speculation or chatgpt answers - for those who actually ordered armor from europe to the US, what did you pay in tariffs?

armor before october?

is this even possible?

i have an opportunity to attend a cool event in october… if i can throw together armor before then. as purchasing most new armor is months out, what do i do?

i have helmet, arms, , thighs and knees, feet

i need -
gauntlets
greaves
some sort of shoulder
some sort of chest
gorget (although my helmet has a padded chain aventale)

loaner armor is being used by other members.
i scrape FBM daily

thoughts?
ideas?

update - i found a local armorer who is helping me make some of these items. another metalworking shop is doing some material cutting for me. the metal shop took a look at a lot of it and was like, “hell ya, we can cut that for you!” and everything will be inspected by the team after

i did my entire project in overlock thread, god help me

making an italian renaissance dress, and realized that i grabbed the overlock thread, not my regular thread. (blame how good the audiobook is). i noticed when i put on the bodice and one of the pearls popped off

im… not sure what to do. other than a flying pearl, ive been tugging on it and it’s been pretty sturdy

each bodice half is a single piece of tapestry + cotton stabling layer (quilted together on machine, then hand embellished ). entire bodice is suede lined. arms are fusible interfaced

how do i (40F) tell a club they’re (40F 50F…club members) excluding newbies?

i (40F) am relatively new to a club full of history nerds (several ages and genders?), most identify as neurodivergent, and casual conversation is tough. the club is structured historically with many special interest subgroups that tend to behave cliquish. i dont believe it’s intentional, i just think everyone is awkward. “i cried after my first event” is a very common story.

ive brought several newbies and friends with me who (whilst interested in the material) have said “jesus, tough crowd” and havent returned.

simultaneously, the club strives for outreach and recruitment. i suggested that we create a special group for welcoming newbies. this across the board got shut down. this club insists everyone is open and kind and welcoming… but they simply arent. their response was “well, we are welcoming, and it’s your own fault for isolating yourself.”

they *intend* to be welcoming, but have successfully turned away the last handful of newbies i met or brought.

for example:

- i will introduce a new person and everyone will half smile and then continue what theyre doing
- new people will white knuckle drinks in the center of a room completely alone
- protocol rules arent explained
- some facets seem insider-only without context
- they will leave someone new in the corner of the room, even if that person is struggling

how do i gently tell them, nah, we have to spend special effort on newbies?

TLDR - a club full of awkward history nerds isn’t welcoming to new members. i dont know how to tell them that (despite their efforts), they need a tactic shift

Cloak trimming/razzle dazzle?

i have this woven trim (16ft) and this fur cape. now that ive pinned them together, something feels missing. embroidery? embellishment? different everything?

i dont have to use this trim or the fur

im a member of the sca and my persona is italian/tudor, so norse would be a departure. this piece will actively be used camping

spiro has unknowingly numbed sex for 15 years

mild nsfw

i have been on spiro for 15 years for cystic acne, and have always had pretty mid sex. fine, but uninterested for most of the month and only really horny during ovulation. usually felt numbed (like a visit to the OBGYN). hard to orgasm. i even got divorced because of my lackluster sex drive

cut to this week - i forgot to refill my
medication and was SHOCKED when sex felt INCREDIBLE. i seriously could not fathom the sensation. i was frothing at the mouth horny, easy orgasm, felt more than i have in eons

… and it’s because of the spiro. stopping spiro was like waking up from a trance. i am deeply deeply heartbroken for a life of numbness due to acne (which im fairly certain will return).

how to keep my parents [65F][70M] keep ruining my [35F] home DIY?

i [35F] own a very DIY home, and my parents [65F][70M] work on my house a lot, anything from yard work to home improvement to fencing... i literally could not improve this home without them and the appreciation is endless

the dynamic is that they do whatever they want on the property as a creative outlet. i don’t mind this and it works for us

with that being said, their memory is not great and they pretty frequently ruin projects while trying to be helpful. stuff like:
- i seed an entire flower bed with wildflowers, and my mom rotatills it because she forgot
- i buy stuff for a project, and they “put it away” to clean up… but don’t remember where
- good luck keeping track of any tool
- i laid a new pathway and planted ground cover between the pavers. a week later my dad power washed the pavers and obliterated the baby plants.
- i set up an electrolysis tank that someone moved and shorted the electrical component, frying it

i will literally hold a family meeting and point to an area and be like “this is planted, don’t walk on it”… then they forget, apologize profusely and then everyone is sad. they honestly are not trying to do this.

i am not an angry person, but am having a hard time going outside seeing stuff im working on destroyed without losing my cool. i also feel bad because im now pissed when they actively like building me a fence

tldr well meaning (but forgetful) parents ruin DIY projects. i don’t know how to stop it and am losing my patience
