Am I spending too much?

Before tax salary is about 220k.

I used to be able to save much more but lately it just feels like money is going away so easily, salary stagnated in the last few years while everything else in my cost of living is up 30% at least.

This year was abnormal in travel, my budget is for 12k per year so it will catch up eventually, helping family was also abnormal this year so that’s the “gift and donations”.

Housing, food and car cost is what eats most of it.

I know most people here have decent incomes, is that on average for someone making 220k?

EDIT: $1100 IS NOT ONLYFANS!!!!!

Looking for honest tour feedback

Hey, I’ve seen them like 3 times in the last 10 years so I knew well the situation of Vince’s voice, but I’ve read a lot of comments lately, did it get worse? Is something particularly bad in this tour or people are just being mean?

How about Extreme and Tesla? Are they putting up good shows?

I’m on the fence about going tomorrow in Toronto

The most frustrating part at the moment with all the vibe coded apps

I think the most frustrating part at the moment with all the vibe coded apps if you are in an "obvious niche" like I am, is that with all the noise, people are not even taking you seriously anymore.

All of us that know what we're doing know that out of 20 products out there in a niche, most likely 19 are awful, but how should the target audience knows who's decent and who's not?

I think I've made the classic mistake of building and perfecting first, figure out marketing later (most of us technical people do that) and now all the channels for acquisition seem to be super saturated, if you scroll down https://www.reddit.com/r/mintuit/ EVERY SINGLE DAY there's a new mint replacement, at this point when you are the one trying to advertise in these channels, people are just ignoring these posts, because it's too saturated, so even if you have a product that would stand out, most people won't see it, 2 years ago if you posted a new product on this community it would probably lead to thousands of leads because the alternatives were scarce.

When there's too much noise it's hard to stand out, even with paid ads, on instagram EVERY DAY I see a different ad for a new different app, and I don't like to judge other people's work because we're all trying to hustle, but with all due respect, some of them are just burning money because there's no way those things would get any users, it's clearly vibe coded and not even with Claude probably (hope I didn't offend gemini users).

But seriously, it's hard to get any leads when there's too much noise out there, even if competition is low quality, they're still shouting in the same space that you are and people will just get tired of it.

Just wanted to get it out of my chest, how are you guys dealing with this if you are in a saturated niche? Are paid ads working? Are they much more expensive than they used to be?

I have a decent amount of users already, but in this niche with a low cost subscription, I would need to get traction of waaaaay more new subscribers monthly to reach my goals

Solid Mint replacement, looking for feedback

Hello, I am the founder of https://wealthmode.io/, for a long time I looked for a replacement of Mint, which is where I felt most comfortable, I know there's a plethora of apps out there, but none made me feel really comfortable.

I am a senior software engineer, so eventually decided to invest and create my own product, I am using it for my own finances and pretty happy with the result, the feedback I got from the first few hundred users were mostly positive, I was trying to perfect it before going to bigger communities on reddit and putting any money on ads.

I would like to hear from more people as this community is huge, whoever wants to try it, I would appreciate it, for the people that are still not happy with a solution, what is missing? What are you looking for in these apps?

What are the most important things to you? Reports? Budgets? Tracking investments?

At the moment it's a solid personal finance app for transactions/budgeting, the next 2 big things that I'm working on are

  1. The investment side of it (replacing something like Wealthica), which is something not even Mint had, a single app for personal finances (transactions, budget) and investment portfolio tracking.
  2. Native mobile apps, I worked hard on having a pretty good usability for mobile web, as most people use it on phones, but I know people really love native apps, so that's coming soon as well.
  3. A lot of apps are adding chatbots to chat about your finances, as an user I don't like that. But I'm not sure if other users are wanting that or not, how do you feel about it?
  4. There's a feature that I'm on the fence about, that im not sure if people really need that or not, which is shared access for households.

FAQ:

  1. How's the security? We use the highest standards of security, data is encrypted at REST using AES-256, read-only access to your data, using Plaid which is the industry standard, same thing you had on Mint. I'm a senior SWE, not a vibe coder that doesn't know what he's doing.
  2. How about problematic banks for auto sync, like CIBC. As mentioned above, Plaid is the industry standard, so the fault is not on the apps, CIBC protocol sucks, so every app will have the same problem. The integration on US banks though is closer to 100%.
  3. What's the trick with the free tier ? There's no trick, I'm not selling any data, users that use free tier are usually not heavy load users, it's not a big deal for me to maintain that and the feedback is valuable, the goal is always to eventually convert these users into paid users.

Hairclub "extreme hair therapy" plan

Hello, I recently did the free assessment at hairclub and was offered this plan that includes the "special serum" for 12 months, 12 visits (monthly) and the laser hat to do at home (red light therapy).

$4195 CAD for the whole treatment (almost 3k USD).

I'd like to hear from people that tried that, is it really worth it or would you recommend just a DIY of rogaine + buy a hat, etc. ?

Is there any information if this is a one off or he'll actually get back on tour?

I see all the dates in NYC and then London, but nothing after that.

Bon Jovi is part of my bucket list, but not only the tickets are already expensive, adding a whole trip to NYC makes it really expensive. I wonder if he's coming to Toronto anytime soon.

Canadian software engineer, bachelors in computer science, no citations, is it really feasible?

Hello, I just talked to an immigration lawyer and he said I have a good case for EB2-NIW, I am not really convinced though, I am not sure if I am just being modest but I don't see anything exceptional in my case, I am a solid worker, good in what I do, 10+ years of experience as a software engineer, but to be honest it all just seems normal to me, nothing extraordinary.

When I read the requirements of EB2 it at least sounds to me as I need something extraordinary, like the PHD, citations, etc.

I really want to move to the US, there are much better opportunities to me, but I don't wanna be a fool and spend 15k in lawyer costs in vain.

Are there cases like mine that tried the process here? It's nice to hear from both sides, successful ones and the failures as well.

4 nights in LA, would you recommend 2 different hotels?

Looking for recommendations for 4 nights in LA coming from Toronto

I am planning last minute because I decided to follow Canada.

And it seems quite chaotic to move around LA, so Im not sure if a car is really a must have and another doubt is if I should have 2 different hotels for 2 nights each to focus on different areas.

Because sofi stadium, beaches seem to be really far from hollywood, beverly hills, the parks.

What would you recommend? Can I do it without a car?

Is it worth flying out of Buffalo?

I'm booking last minute flights to LA and I see Buffalo can be cheaper and have better options for direct flights.

I wonder if it's the same price for a direct from Buffalo vs a 1h connection leaving out of YYZ, what's better? No idea how long it should take at the land border.

I think I finally found a simple replacement that makes me as happy as Mint

I'm also a Mint orphan and I tried several apps.

The big enterprise ones (Monarch and YNAB), the indie canadian Lunch money but recently I found another indie canadian WealthMode (https://wealthmode.io/) which won me by its simplicity.

I think it's a more recent product as well with ongoing development and new features, so I hope it won't eventually become too convoluted like others have become.

I just want clarity of where my money is going, auto categorization and some reports.

The only thing lacking IMO is an investment portfolio tracker in the same app, but I heard from their support that it is coming soon, I'd really love to have my full financial view in a single place.
