The Quiet Storm — one of my favourite Tim Meadows sketches, from S22 (1997)

This instalment with Alec Baldwin is the second to air, after one with Bill Pullman and before another when Nathan Lane later hosted.

They feel like a bit of a precursor to the Ladies Man sketches, which started the following season.

A Man About The House (1947)

A great, lesser known British melodrama from the director of The Wicked Lady and The Man In Grey, about two sisters inheriting a villa (and a whole new life) in Italy.

Starting off almost like David Lean’s Summertime, it’s one of those movies that becomes something very different as it goes along, and if you haven’t seen this one I really recommend it.

This was David Lean's last British film before going international, and it's a gem, with a mighty comic turn from Charles Laughton.

A classic Ealing Studios drama, all set over the course of one day.

Along with a great snapshot of London’s East End, it’s also got two excellent performances in Googie Withers and John McCullum (who married the year after this one came out).
