My police department is hiring now but I am committed to Border Patrol already. What should I do?

Hello, so I am in a weird situation with this now. I am set to EOD Sep 8th for BP with El Paso as my duty station.

The police agency in the city I live in is now taking apps for the next two weeks and I know I can get in. I would be starting at 73k with experience which I have and they offer a decent residency bonus for housing.

I am currently living in a house with my mother and the station is actually a 10 minute walk from our house.

Right now I don't know what to do. We live in the Midwest and I would have been relocating from here to Texas after the academy.

Time period between finishing academy and reporting to duty station?

Hello, Is there grace period between completing the academy and reporting to your duty station? I live in the Midwest and would obviously be relocating to the southwest and would need to return home to pack stuff in a U-Haul and move.

Are other countries militaries miserable too or is it just the U.S.?

Been thinking about this lately and what retention is like for other nations. When I was overseas I saw Polish Greek Germans Bosnian troops and they all looked happy and chill compared to the US Army. They had beards and way more lax standards and not a look of dread in their eyes.

What if you don't have 10 character references for an application?

Hello, a department is hiring in my neighboring town but they want 10 references for the application. I legit don't have 10 people. Only 4 I can use at the most.

Should I email their HR and just ask if they really need that or would that be stupid to do? Or should I just not even apply to them?

Are business major graduates struggling in this market as well?

I went to school for IT and honestly regret it now. I want to do an MBA in the future but I was wondering if business bachelor degree folk are having a hard time too?
