How to improve rhisbugly hallway?

Ignore the black bag - I was cleaning up. This is my hallway it's shaped like the Tetris shape Rhode island Z. I'm showing the entrance part of it. It's ugly and has no personality. I've not done much to it since I moved in. I want to make it better but need ideas. How can I make it inviting and beautiful??

I want functionality - space for most used shoes tucked away, a place to put keys and other essentials and a place to hang my jackets, scarves etc. The toilet is right there near the entrance and because of that I want things to be closed off. Can someone suggest colours/wallpaper/furniture/anything that can make this place a joy to walk into? Thanks a bunch!

How do I improve my communication skills?

I feel I get misunderstood often (all of my life). Some people have called me arrogant, some called me rude, someone said I need to learn to be diplomatic. However, on the plus side, I've also been called articulate, give good advice, intelligent, wise.

I am an honest person and I say what I mean and mean what I say. However, I think something goes wrong in the process of translating my thoughts into words.

Having these mixed reactions in my life, I feel now that I need to learn to improve my way of communicating with people. Through writing answers on Reddit, I am beginning to realise the way I structure things needs to to change. The thing I say last could be the 1st or 2nd thing, for example - rearrangements like that.

All I know is I just want to be better understood and what I can control is making myself more clearer. So how do I go about learning this?

Am I braking wrong?

Okay I really need to know this. When I am driving in 4th gear (I have 6 gears, petrol car) and I am approaching a red light in the distance, what I tend to do to slow down: I'll break to go less than 30mph. 20 something. Then I'll put clutch down and change to gear 3 whilst braking to slow it down further. Then I'll let engine braking slow it down more and I'll start braking again till I'm nearly stopping and I'll change to gear 2 or 1 depending on speed and if I think the traffic is about to move again.

Is this OK? Would this burn the clutch? Is there a more effective way of coming to a stop? Thanks

How to know how close I am to car behind/in front of me when parking

Been driving since February.

Yesterday, I was parked on a busy main road and I was trying to get out of a tight spot. I couldn't tell if I'm too close to the car in front of me and behind me. I asked a random stranger to let me know if I'm too close to the car in front. He said to me are you new driver and said I have the same car as you do you want to get out I can take the car out for you. I said no it's fine I can do it myself.

I tend to be extra careful to not get too close to cars as I did gently hit 2 or 3 cars in the first month and that scared me. Sometimes I park thinking I'm too close to the car. When I get out and check there's lots of space in between!!

How do I learn how close or far parked cars are from me? I find it a bit embarrassing that I still don't know after driving for over 5 months 😔

Hi I am non-latino but I love the videos I see online it's sooo creative and I can watch it for hours.

I want to learn basic bachata as a solo. Nothing sensual as that's not me as a person.

How can I go about learning the movies. Any legit people to learn from online? Would be grateful for advice and resources.

Worried. Joined hard shoulder before it ended to leave motorway

Hi I don't know if the hard shoulder was in use on the M6 by Birmingham. I was moving lanes to leave junction. As I was moving lanes I saw there were cars in hard shoulder I presumed it was okay to go in that lane. I moved in and after 30 seconds I saw it say hard shoulder ends here. That's when I realised uh oh. Will I get into trouble for that? I genuinely don't know if it was allowed to use or not as sometimes it tells you you can use it but I hadn't seen on gantry before to see if it was allowed . I've never used the hard shoulder illegally before so I'm worried

Experienced Driver?

So I passed my driving and been driving just over 5 months. I've roughly driven about 5,500 miles.

I've driven in country roads frequently, once in twisty windy one with space for one vehicle. I drive at night, day, motorways (busy, less busy, roadworks, at 5mph), dual carriageways, peak traffic time. Once I drove in heavy rain. And rain and hailstones on the motorway.

What do you guys think? Is that good enough experience and mileage to consider myself an experienced driver?

Undertaking

Ok can someone please explain what undertaking is to me. I am seeing conflicting information and it's bugging me.

'The Highway Code (Rule 268) states that you should not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. However, it makes an exception for slow or congested traffic, where lanes move at similar speeds and the left lane happens to move faster.'

So if you're in lane 2 and you move into lane 1 to go past the slow car in your lane, that's undertaking.

What about staying in the left lane but going faster than middle lane (at 70mph and they are going slower than you)? Would that be undertaking? Because if so why? Surely we are meant to be doing the speed limit regardless of whichever lane you're in.

Improve English language and literature skills

English is my third language and I learned it when I was 8 when I came to the UK. In school I loved maths and was good at it, as well as science. They both came naturally to me. However, with English I had to strive hard just to get a B! It was not something that came naturally to me. Years later, as an adult, I believe I can't really understand the reasons and intentions behind what is written, especially when it comes to reading in between the lines. I really want to improve these skills so I can understand different types of texts. I also want to start reading books and be able to understand themes, characters, etc. because I remember in school we had to do that and I used to get so confused lol.

I hope what I want to convey is being understand. If you could explain to me to me as a beginner starting on this journey I would highly appreciate it. Thank you!

Right of way

Recently passed driving. Had a situation earlier today that's got me confused.

So, I was going to enter minor to major road (Oakfield road to A441). I was going to turn left and the road has two lanes for going in that direction. I looked both ways of A441 and it was clear. So I started driving. Then I saw a driver from road across me (Sir John's road) also moving in to go same direction as me. She stopped the car mid way as we both were close to each but not too much. She was saying something. I couldn't hear her so I was gesturing and telling her to go, go, go. Because stopping in the middle of the road was not safe.

Like I said there were 2 lanes to join and I didn't really see her until I started moving in. Clearly she thought I was in the wrong. I just think it was one of those blunders. It wouldn't have caused a collision if she'd had carried on driving as we realised and I would have slowed down or she should have.

Regardless, I just wanted to know who would have a right of way here and was it something to be worked up about?

Help! Can't clean

Why does it feel like I'm fighting my soul to clean? Why does it make me want to cry after like a few minutes of trying? Why do I have to take constant breaks as it becomes overwhelming and difficult for me to sustain my effort?

It makes me so sad. I don't like being dirty, unclean and messy. But, things have been piling up for months and months and I just cannot seem to do anything about it. I tell myself daily I should clean, I will clean. But I don't seem to have the willpower to do so despite having a strong intention.

Is anyone averse to the act of cleaning up just like me? This is so so hard for me 😭
