Grandfather’s Induction Notice

My grandfather was 33 with six dependents when he was called up. Served nine months before discharge for having flat feet!

First Day as a Fed - 1988

Cleaning out and found my orientation worksheet from my first day as a federal employee. I was making good money as a newly hired GS-7. Look at the Holidays section: they had to manually add the MLK Holiday as it was a new holiday. Went on to spend a long time with the government, taking DRP 1.0. Enjoyed it but glad to be out.

Grandfather in World War One

My grandfather was drafted in July 1918 and spent the remainder of the war at Camp Hancock outside of Augusta, GA. After he was discharged, he returned to rural NC and married my grandmother.

Winston says it’s too hot for the dog park…

Summer is here and it’s too hot for his usual outing. He prefers the cool waters of the Gulf. He’s 12 and has always loved being in water.
