My older sister has been delusional about this marriage. For one, her husband to be is already married. She's marrying him to become his second wife. Even though she's an MD doctor 😭 and a generally incredibly person.

This whole thing started when she cheated with him while he was (still is) married, hiding it so poorly my little sister and I found out. Then she announced she's gonna marry him. Since polygamy is illegal in our countries, she's only doing the religious ceremony and expects him to divorce his first wife and then marry her legally once that's done. But he'll remain religiously married to first wife because if he abandons her she'll be destitute.

And it's been so awful. Because not only did she do what she did, but she has it in her head that he's not going to treat her the way he did his first wife. That if their marriage has problems the way his first one did, he's not going to go for someone else.

It's just crazy. We're heading out for her wedding tomorrow. Im working on framing their marriage contract right now. And it's making me ill.

The other thing is I can't talk to anyone about this IRL because I'm so, so ashamed. It's so stressful and even though my parents arent fully on board either, they're allowing this to happen (after fucking my sisters marriage many times in the past, this is the man they agreed to). They also don't know she was cheating with him (meeting up in other countries) so I can't speak plainly about this and how insane she's acting with them without outing her. Not that it would change anything, because they might be disappointed but they'd still go ahead with it.

My parents are also hiding things or mismatched on what will happen. My dad thinks the guy is gonna divorce his first wife fully, religiously and legally. My mom thinks he'll remain religiously married to her as is his duty unless she herself asks for a divorce. And my older sister of the same opinion. She's upset about it but said that's what God demands and her fiance is a man of God 😭😭

The thing about this being illegal is people in the families have been saying that me or my little sister might report my older sister or the guy to court or the police since it's literally illegal. Even my older sister said that, which hurt like a bitch. If we try to talk to her about the first wife or how this guy might treat her in the future, she starts crying and says we're on the first wife's side (we barely know her). Also we do know the first wife has PCOS and depression and is unable to have kids, which both my sister and her fiance very badly want.

AND right now we're doing a small ceremony with just his family and ours. But my sister is already talking about having a big reception in the fall. Which like...I cannot do that. I can't put on my face and parade around in front of my whole community like this. And not just that, but won't having a huge public wedding reception make his divorce proceedings harder? Won't it potentially complicate things for them legally??

Also the thing about this small religious ceremony we're doing rn is that it's in the same city as the first wife, since he lives there!!! We're literally going to be an hour away, doing all this shit behind her back. It's so awkward and I feel so awful for her. She has no idea. What she does know is that he has been telling her he's going to get another wife for a while now, and he also told her he's already done the nikkah and it's over. So idk how she feels or if she believes him. It's just so horrible.

I'm so ashamed and horrified. Idk if I can even smile for the wedding pics.

The worst thing though, is that I love her so much and it hurts so much to see this happening. It's insane actually how people you think you know can change in the blink of an eye.
