Murph 38 for Today
Just my Murph 38 on a new Veblenist canvas strap. Such a versatile piece, Dre’s it up or dress it down - it’s just classy.

So I am looking to add a daily wear piece to my small collection, and I have had the 556i on my mind for a while. Yes, technically a few of my pieces could classify as daily wear/ GADA, but I want something more robust and not as blingy as my Murph or the Seiko SPB249 Alpinist. While I would order in the bracelet due to the cost saving down the road, I have been enjoying most of my watches on straps lately - leather, FKM, canvas - so I appreciate the 20mm lug width. I think I already know the answer, but would love any additional feedback…and while this pic shows a couple on steel, currently they are on straps as I’m tired of adjusting bracelets.
I don't know why I am struggling to bond with this watch, but I have had it since late April and have only worn it a handful of times. The stock bracelet was hard to get a good fit with (only 2 micro adjust holes), non-tapered, etc. I put an Uncle Half Link in it which helped, but still didn't like the wrist feel - so I put an Uncle Straps Senator bracelet on it which helped tremendously, but I just never reach for it.
Same thing happened with my Baby Alpinist SPB155, which had mostly the same issues coupled with a shade of green/gold I just couldn't find an occassion to wear - so I sold it not long after buying it. I am trying to avoid the same fate with this watch because I do love the dial, so I'm trying fabric, FKM, etc. straps to see if I can find some love for it before it goes on eBay.
Maybe it's the thickness? I have found I value the thickness of the case to be something very important to me as my journey has progressed, and this one is the most hefty I have in that regard. I understand that it's due to the open caseback and the 200m water resistance, but that's kinda overkill for a non-diver in my opinion. I'd gladly give up 100-150m and the view of the rather pedestrian movement for 2-3mm less of thickness.
Anyone else ever go thru this on a watch they SHOULD like, at least on paper?
For anyone wondering, or owners of a 39mm 1926 that wish they had a little more adjustment in their bracelet, here’s an option. I ordered this link as soon as it was released as poor fit (too tight or too loose) was an issue I was having. I installed it this morning and it gave me just the right amount of flexibility I needed to have a comfortable fit! Drop any question below if you have them…
Couldn’t stand the non-taper and huge clasp and gap on the stock bracelet. Just put this Uncle Straps Lincoln on and love it - I have on on my Alpinist SPB249 as well so I knew it was quality.
I’ve been looking for a new dress watch lately for some upcoming weddings and such, and after getting my first Longines (Spirit 37 Champagne dial) I couldn’t help but pull the trigger on this classic beauty. Found it on C24 from an AD, brand new with everything including the stamped and dated warranty card (the day I purchased it, not a gray dealer that bought it months ago) and got a smoking deal at almost 30% off. Love it!
Hoping to get some positive comments and not be told I have a “box of shitters” like some of the other subs on here.
Not sure where to go from here with it, Ranger 36mm in Dune White is about the only thing I am lusting after these days, and either the Baby Alpinist would go to free up the slot, or both of the Seiko’s would go leaving 7 in the collection.
Had been looking at this one for a while, and I’m not disappointed! Tan strap is stock, the blue is a Delugs Pueblo Leather in Navy Blue.
Happy with where I am now, but can’t seem to shake that “next one” thought process. Reddit/WatchCrunch/FB/YT sure don’t help…😂
I’m in love with it, especially since my half-link from Uncle Straps came and dialed in the fit. Had to stop myself from ordering the Mystic Forest variant, went for a Baby Alpinist next, ordered today!
I wasn’t prepared for how good this looks in the metal. I’m thrilled - I sold my black Atlas impulsively a few months ago and regretted it almost immediately. I didn’t want to buy the exact same watch again, so I went with this color. I also got the new version of the elite bracelet with the *new* OTF clasp (similar to Rolex Glidelock and Tudor T-Fit) but need to size it tomorrow when my new screwdriver set gets here. But it’s a huge improvement over the Node-X OTF clasp from the last iteration.
Just received this today, love it! I had a G2 Pacific Polar before and was missing it, but didn’t want to re-buy something I voluntarily sold. So I stepped outside of my comfort zone and went for the “Pepsi”. I’ve had as many as 10 Vaer watches before, now I’m at 3. Cheers!
