Daarvoor keek je rond 19:00 uur de samenvatting van de Eredivisie en daarna kon je eigenlijk je hele avond vullen. Om 20:30 uur Wegmisbruikers en rond 21:30 uur Peter R. de Vries. Gewoon pure journalistiek, misdaad en echte verhalen. Op Ned1 had je weer het Journaal, Boer Zoekt Vrouw en Studio Sport etc. Je zette de tv aan en de avond liep vanzelf.
En toen hadden we ook nog niet die hele F1-hype van tegenwoordig. Het was allemaal wat simpeler en naïever. Niet eens per se nostalgie, maar je had gewoon minder aan je hoofd. Even op Teletekst kijken wat er kwam, tv aan en lekker op de bank. Tegenwoordig heb je alles en ben je alsnog aan het zoeken wat je moet kijken.

Instead of making everything cheap, we should make the essentials affordable again and let people choose where they want to spend their money. If someone wants to spend their money on a bigger house and raise a family, they should be able to do that without being priced out. If someone prefers to spend it on electronics, travel or other things, that's their choice. But we can't allow essential goods to become so expensive and unreachable for regular people which forces people to spend money on non essentials and delay or prevent having children. This can be done by increasing the tax rate on non essentials, so that money can be directed to family building. What do you think?

Every time someone suggests political reform or changing the people in power in Morocco, the same argument comes up: 'Do you want Morocco to become Syria?'
Why are so many people afraid of change? Using Syria as the default argument shuts down any serious discussion. In my view, Syria today is in a much better position than it was under decades of dictatorship of Al Assad. Syrians are happy about it and many Syrians see the fall of the old Assad regime as an opportunity to rebuild their country and shape its future themselves. That doesn't mean Syria's problems are all over, there are currently still major economic, political and security challenges, but it also shows that political change does not have to be viewed only through the lens of fear. Syrians or Libyans are now free to voice their opinion and choose their leaders and they don't have to be scared of being put in jail anymore for random opinions. It took years of sacrifice but they achieved it and that's a great thing. I believe Moroccans should have the exact same view towards the rulers.
Morocco should be able to have an open discussion about reforms or change without every conversation ending with 'look at Syria or Libya'. Every country has its own path, and political debate shouldn't be dismissed by assuming that any change will inevitably lead to the worst case scenario.

Niet voor luxe. Gewoon om wat financiële ruimte te creëren en iets op te bouwen voor de toekomst.
Je betaalt belasting, lost je studieschuld af en probeert alles volgens de regels te doen.
Maar hoe meer je werkt, hoe meer het voelt alsof je tussen wal en schip belandt.
Je verdient te veel voor toeslagen.
Te veel voor sociale huur.
Te veel voor allerlei regelingen.
Maar ondertussen verdien je niet genoeg om zonder zorgen een huis te kopen of serieus vermogen op te bouwen.
Dus blijft de particuliere huurmarkt over, met huren die ieder jaar stijgen en een steeds groter deel van je inkomen opslokken.
De boodschappen worden duurder.
De energierekening wordt duurder.
De vaste lasten worden duurder.
Een koopwoning raakt steeds verder uit zicht.
En dus werk je nog meer.
Maar van die extra uren blijft lang niet alles over. Je draagt meer belasting af en ziet een groot deel van je extra inspanning verdwijnen in belastingen, huur en stijgende kosten.
Je kijkt om je heen en ziet gepensioneerden die van hun pensioen genieten en door Europa reizen met een camper en mensen die afhankelijk zijn van een uitkering die soms meer financiële rust lijken te hebben dan iemand die fulltime werkt en daarnaast nog een tweede baan heeft.
Je hebt een buurman die een uitkering ontvangt en ondertussen zwart bijbeunt.
Voor je gevoel houdt hij meer over dan iemand die iedere maand netjes belasting betaalt en zich aan alle regels houdt.
Natuurlijk moet er een sociaal vangnet zijn.
Natuurlijk moeten mensen die hulp nodig hebben geholpen worden.
Solidariteit is een belangrijk onderdeel van een samenleving.
Daar gaat het niet om.
Het gaat erom dat de balans zoek lijkt.
Dat de werkende middenklasse steeds vaker de rekening betaalt.
Geen recht op ondersteuning.
Geen betaalbare woning.
Geen toegang tot betaalbare huur.
Wel steeds hogere lasten.
Wel steeds hogere prijzen.
Wel steeds meer uren werken.
Soms voelt het alsof dit land vooral is ingericht voor mensen die al met pensioen zijn of voor mensen die kunnen terugvallen op voorzieningen en ondersteuning.
Terwijl de groep die werkt, belasting betaalt, een studieschuld aflost en probeert vooruit te komen steeds harder moet rennen om dezelfde plek te behouden.
De middenklasse vormt de ruggengraat van de samenleving.
De mensen die iedere dag opstaan, werken, belasting betalen en verantwoordelijkheid nemen.
Maar juist die groep lijkt steeds vaker klem te zitten tussen stijgende kosten en afnemende mogelijkheden.
Steeds harder werken.
Steeds meer afdragen.
Steeds minder perspectief op een eigen woning of financiële zekerheid.
Dat gevoel hoor je niet voor niets steeds vaker.
Niet omdat mensen tegen solidariteit zijn.
Maar omdat veel werkenden het gevoel hebben dat hun inzet, verantwoordelijkheid en ambitie steeds minder worden beloond.
