Brother just turned 65. If he has Tricare through the military, should he sign up for Medicare?
If so, he's being told he should sign up for Part B. He's getting different answers from different people, even from Medicare.
Edited to add: He didn't retire from the military. He's a vet.

rawstory.comClaim Jumper Replacement Henderson
Does anyone know what will be replacing Claim Jumper on GVP at 215? Someone on FB said it was going to be Lazy Dog. I doubt that, because of the new one on Stephanie.
Does anyone see Dr. Brill (GYN) at the St. Rose location?
I'm kinda dumbstruck by the convo I just had with their appt desk. I left a msg. early this morning for a call back. A young woman called me at 5:00. I wanted to make an appt for my annual exam. So she set up an appt for next month. I told her I also wanted to talk to him about a particular drug. She said that would be a separate appt and a separate charge. WTF? She said if I wanted to talk to him about anything other than my PAP, breast exam or gyno exam, it would have to be a separate appt/charge.
The drug I wanted to ask him about has everything to do with my PAP. It actually doesn't need to be a conversation; I just need to tell him I've been exposed to "XYZ." Again, she said it would be a separate appt/charge, then she hung up on me. I haven't received an appt confirmation, so I don't know if she cancelled my appt or what. Again, I'm just dumbstruck by the whole interaction. I've never been told I couldn't ask my doctor a question. I wish I could report the conversation, because this person was really a bitch.

facebook.comPrivacy Suggestion
While it's great that users have the option to set their profiles to "private," it really doesn't matter, since people can search your user name using Google. I know this isn't Facebook, but they have an option to prevent your posts from being accessed by search engines. Is it something Reddit would ever consider?
What "gadgets" have you found helpful after endo hand surgery?
I'm having surgery on my rt. hand next Friday. I live alone, so I'm starting to stress about not being able to do some things for myself for the first couple of weeks. I'm actually more stressed about that than I am about the surgery. My surgeon said not to lift anything heavier than a fork for the first two weeks. That basically means I can't use my hand.
Reading posts here reminded me of things I won't be able to do for myself for awhile. My main concerns are my pets. I have a cat and a dog. I'll need to change the litter box weekly (I don't mean daily scooping; that won't be an issue), and I'll have to take my dog out on a leash in the backyard. (I have major remodeling starting next week - terrible timing, I know - and I know the workers won't keep my gate closed so she can't get out.)
I've asked on the Medicare sub if Medicare will cover someone to visit me at least every other day for a couple of weeks. Waiting for an answer on that.
What are some actual gadgets you've found helpful after surgery? I have an opener for pop top cans, and a tray thing that holds bottles and jars so I can open them one-handed. I'm ordering a button hook/zipper pull, and the plastic cast covers for showering. I have plenty of ice packs in the freezer. I won't be able to fasten my bras, so I ordered some bralettes that you just pull over your head. What else can you think of that would be helpful?
[Sun Care] What did they replace it with?
The Title box won't let me enter First Aid Beauty, for some reason. I've been using FAB Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer with Sunscreen SPF 30. I used up the last of my bottle today. Went to Sephora, and they didn't have anything even resembling my product. Does anyone know what they've replaced it with?
Best way to pay for new build house before selling my current house?
I'm planning to move from one part of the country to another. My current home is paid for, and will sell for around $750K. The new build I'm looking at will be close to $700K. My current house will pay for the new house.
My question is how should I go about paying the periodic deposits on the new build when I haven't sold my current house yet? I could borrow from my IRA, but I'd want to repay it before the 60-day deadline for being penalized. I asked about a bridge loan, and my Merrill Lynch advisor said, "No." What other options could I look at?
A bird family has set up residence on my front step.
Suggestions for encouraging them to move? My Ring Chimes go off all day because of them. I've changed my "package zone" on Ring, but that didn't help. I don't want to hurt them, I just want them to move along.
Flood Zones
I posted recently, asking for recommendations for areas to move to, close to St. Charles. Thank you, again, for all your replies. After looking at what seemed like 1000 homes, I zeroed in on an area called Strawberry Farms. After digging deeper, I found it's located in a flood zone rated 9/10. 😱 But after looking at various sources, I see differing ratings. Which source is the most reputable, IYO? Thanks!
Leaving Las Vegas
I was born in St. Louis during the Jurassic Age. 😉 IOW, I'm a senior. I grew up in Southeast Missouri until I graduated high school. I lived in numerous states before I met my husband and settled in the Bay Area. I lived there for 35 years, and I absolutely loved it. I left when my husband passed, because of the cost of living.
As of last week, I've been in Vegas for eight years. I've never liked it, and I doubt that I ever will. The state is great for seniors because there's no state tax, but I've finally decided it's time to leave. I have family all around St. Louis. My brother lives in Saint Charles.
While I hate the humidity of the Midwest, I hate the constant heat of Vegas even more. It will be a trade-off to be around family. I would love for my dog to be able to spend time outside alone. Because of the coyotes here, she's never been in the yard by herself. Even with a 7' tall stucco wall on three sides. We can't take walks in the summertime because of the heat. Even in the early morning, it's at least 90°.
I've been looking at different neighborhoods not far from Saint Charles. My house here will sell for around $800K (it's paid off), so I'll be looking for a house in the $700K – $750K price range. I'm retired, so a commute is not an issue. I would love to live in a neighborhood that's close to the necessities; grocery stores (Whole Foods would be a plus), vet clinic, drugstores, good restaurants and great medical care. I would also like to be close to a good fitness club. I know that's asking a lot, but I have all that here. I have no doubt I can find it there, too.
I would love suggestions for neighborhoods that might fit my wish list, as I continue to do my research on this end. I'll be looking for a realtor there, too. Thanks so much!

Should I Repair or Replace?
I have a Howard Miller grandfather clock that stopped running. I had a repairman here this morning, who said it needs the escape wheel replaced. He quoted $750 to repair it. I'm doubting that's a fair price, but what do I know?

Kitchen Faucet Replacement Cost?
I need my kitchen faucet replaced. I have a quote for $650 if the plumber supplies the faucet, and $450 if I provide the faucet. The cost seems high to me. Is it?

Drunk guy fell into traffic. Sorry, no video.
I was waiting at the light from The District at the GVP intersection. I was headed across the street to go to Whole Foods. While I was waiting, I saw a drunk guy fall down on the sidewalk just before he got to the light. He tried to stand up, but he kept falling over. The third time he tried, he fell off the sidewalk into GVP oncoming traffic. A few cars drove around him, and finally a woman stopped to help him. She was trying to help him stand up, but he looked unconscious. I started to get out of my car, but the traffic was already backing up behind the woman. I would've made matters worse. So I called 911, got a recording, then was on hold for 10 minutes WTF? As I was leaving Whole Foods, there was an ambulance where the guy had fallen, and traffic was still backed up at the light.
The guy didn't look homeless. I'd say he was late 30s/early 40s. I'd never seen anything like this happen, so I was a bit shook.
