Pretty cool idea. The Space Pirates look a lot stranger and creepier in the concept art, this example is a lot more skeletal and insectoidal than what would be used in the final game.

Before the plasma beam was finalised, it looks like it was originally planned to be green energy based, rather than the fire based beam we see in the final game. It’s also very cool to see the concept art for charging this proto-plasma beam, it reminds me of charging the Annihilator Beam in Prime 2.

Another interesting little aspect is the inclusion of the creatures holding the beam upgrades, just like the creatures who present the upgrades in Super Metroid. One of them even looks like Crocomire. On the left of the page we see how the Arm Cannon would have looked with the different beams equipped. Since each upgrade physically adds to, extends or improves the Arm Cannon from the previous upgrade, making it larger and wider, I wonder if it was ever planned that you would only have one beam at a time, with each beam replacing the last, which was the case in Prime 3.
