SMiLe bits sneaking into other works

Has anyone ever sat down and listed out all of the little ways that little parts of SMiLE snuck into other songs throughout the band’s history?
I don’t mean whole tracks necessarily - an example would be how the “crying baby” shows up in Little Bird

How to get Al’s band to add a tour stop near me?

They’re not coming anywhere near me and I really want to see them 😭 I’ve tried reaching out to a few local venues but haven’t gotten any responses and I left a comment on Al’s Instagram asking them to stop here. Since I’m just a nobody does anyone have any other suggestions about what else I can do? The place I live in is recovering from a tragedy that took and ruined a lot of lives (I’m still picking up the pieces of mine) and we could really use some ding dang good vibrations

Any Beach Boys fans in here?

Ok maybe I’m crazy but I feel like brat was kinda like Charli’s Pet Sounds and MFF is kinda like her Smiley Smile. Thankfully for her she’s getting a good amount of critical acclaim for it, probably because it has some retro influences that shine through that feel familiar to listeners whereas Smiley Smile had so many parts of it that were totally novel and goofy that the public really didn’t know what to make of it in 1967. Am I indeed crazy or does anyone else see this parallel?

What’s up my fellow undesirable elements

Content warning: drugs mentioned

/uj, felt weird about posting this in the main sub but I have to know:

Has this ever happened to you? You’re sitting there listening to Please Let Me Wonder with headphones on in absolute bliss and suddenly you’re seeing fractals, having an acid flashback.

I knew Brian was tapped into something special but that was really something else. Anyone ever experienced similar?

Any wildlife rehabilitators that could benefit from a bird cage?

I upgraded my bird to a larger cage a while ago and I still have the old cage. It’s in good condition and my bird is happy and healthy. Would love to donate it if there are any rehabilitators out there who could use it. Happy to drop it off at your facility asap.

Specs:
3/4” bar spacing
Cage area: 19.5”L x 19.5”w x 25.5”H
On wheels with removable play top - total height 63”
Height without play top ~52”

If interested feel free to send me a DM

Favorite pictures of Brian?

I’m moving into a new place and I’ve decided I’m gonna make a little Wall of Brian. Please drop your favorite photos of him! I’d like a nice spread from varying points in his life. Here’s one of mine, I just think it’s absolutely adorable.

Brian Wilson by Barenaked Ladies

Dang I’ve always loved this song but I haven’t actually listened to it since Brian passed and it’s brought back all the feelings. Wanted to drop it here in case there are folks who haven’t heard it. Personally to me this live version is the definitive version.
Fun fact, Brian liked this song and would sometimes cover it while performing live.

Favorite deep dive videos?

Hey y’all! As the title suggests, I’d like to know what your favorite videos are about the Boys outside of things like formal documentaries and films - stuff I can find on YouTube.

I guess I’m mostly looking for fan-made content that’s well-researched. Videos about lore, deep dives into specific albums, things like that. If subjects like Brian’s mental illness or his/Dennis’s addiction issues are addressed I’d prefer they be treated with respect and care, not like tabloid gossip.

There’s kind of an overwhelming amount of content available and I don’t want to waste my time or clicks watching ai-generated bullshit or videos that spread misinformation.

Thank you in advance and if you yourself are a creator who makes videos like this, thank you for your role in preserving and sharing the legacy of the band and making information about them entertaining and accessible to younger generations of fans!

The Last Song ft Lana De Rey

I’ve always been curious about Lana’s reasoning for bailing on finishing this collab with Brian. Do you think she was kind of doing a method acting thing, given the lyrical content of the song?

Please Let Me Wonder

Anyone got an isolated clip of the “I love you” at the end by itself? Wanna play it to myself on repeat when I’m feeling sad. 15 hour loop of it would be even better. Thanks!

Break Away

I’ve been living in hell for about a year, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now and I’ve been listening to Break Away on repeat and crying happy tears.

This song is so special to me. Anyone else?

A couple of things I find really interesting about it - the first one, of course, is Murry’s involvement. Does anyone know which parts of the song Murry is responsible for? It’s really touching to me that he and Brian were able to make something so beautiful and meaningful together despite…well, everything. Also - in the alternate version, is that Murry’s voice at the beginning? Saying “let’s go, it sounds great.” It kind of sounds like him but I’m not sure.

Another thing I find really interesting about it, especially given the context I just mentioned, is this is a rare instance of Brian making a direct mention of having voices in his head in a song. Is this the only song of theirs that does this or are there others? I can’t think of any off the top of my head but given that they have over 500 songs and I’m only human, I don’t quite have an encyclopedic knowledge of all of their songs (yet, anyway. Goals.)

Appreciate this community so much. I love all kinds of music but no other band or artist has touched me quite as deeply as Brian and The Beach Boys and it’s so nice to share a space with people who can understand.

What if we played all their songs at once?

A huge gang of us all get together in the same place with our speakers and each person is responsible for a song and then we do a countdown and all hit play at the same time. If we get enough people maybe we can play solo works too

What do you think would happen?
