Basira #119

She reasoned herself out of the Unknowing unaided by any powers?! (Unless she has a secret patron?)

Probably my favourite character so far. I already liked her in the Police Lights episode. This solidified it.

How she do that. World altering eldritch powers sundering reality and she got out from its heart. What a Queen.

That being said, I am confused how the Stranger's powers work, like it sounded more like the Spiral's domain.

Detect Magic blinded my character when I used it on an apparent "divine artifact". Am I overreacting when I confronted the DM at that moment?

DM said the magical aura I saw was so bright and strong that it blinded me (Failed a DC 20 Con save). But the spell doesn't say anything like that nor I can find any rules about this.

I was confused when that happened so I told the DM where it is in the books. He did say its his rule, but there was no warning whatsoever or were we informed about any house rules like that. If I knew there was more to the spell than what is written in the PHB, then I wouldn't have used it.

I couldn't do anything cuz I need line of sight on most of my spells. I got downed three times and my party exhausted all their healing on me.

After the game I expressed my frustration, how its sucks so much and I didn't find that fun. Only to be told, "well maybe you shouldn't poke your nose into everything."

Now my character is Blinded 'permanently'. I was told to take a level in a martial class and take the Blind Fighting feat. Or was given the option to constantly see through a Familiar's eyes instead but I'll have one less spell slot in every slot level (we're level 5 rn). Or roll a new character if I want to.

Help explaining how gargantuan creatures aren't all sized 4x4 squares, and upscaling them.

So a Kraken, Astral Dreadnought, Roc, Ancient Red Dragon, and a Tarrasque, are all different sizes in lore right? And its only in D&D mechanics they are limited to 4x4 squares.

Theoritically, if you wanted something even bigger, like godzilla size, how would you affect its mechanics? Increase its space occupied and reach?

My party just awoke a sleeping titan, a tarrasque, and while it is big (50ft height)...it just doesn't fit a calamity bringer I had in mind. I thought it would be more like Godzilla in size.

D&D in hobart. Finding it hard to find a group.

I checked out Area 52. They have a wait list for a dozen people. Basically means they're full.

Haven't had good luck in Good Games too. Went there a while back, paid the fee, i got there early and waited, ended up going home (i got a refund at least) cuz no table was open.

I can DM but i don't know enough people that wants to play D&D. My own friends circle are too busy with uni and work so they can't really devote time every week/fornight.

I just realised I don't know anyone outside my circle lol.

Anyone know any groups or community thats accepting new players?.

New to dnd and diy stuff. I made flight stands with acryllic sheet, plastic stick, and glue stick.

I probably should have used super glue to make it neater because the glue sticks doesnt properly hold it so i had to cover the parts in it.

Player wants to jump on top of a Large/Huge enemy and fight them that way. How do I rule this?

As far as I know since they are occupying the same space as the creature, its Difficult Terrain.

Then the High Jump distance rule? Maybe add a difficult Athletics check?

So far I have only been making him do DC20 Athletics which he clears most of the time. But is there anything RAW to deal with this situation?

Is this unfair to my player? Critical Fumbles & Extreme Success.

I give the optional ruling of Crit Fumbles/Extreme Criticals to my players.

If someone rolls a Nat 20, they roll twice the dice as usual. And if they roll a Nat 1, they miss.

With the optional rule, they will need to "Confirm" (Making a standard attack roll) their roll to gain extra effects or mitigate negative ones. So for example, I rolled a Natural 1. I still need to Confirm it, and if I Hit on my Confirmation Roll, I don't have to roll in the Fumble Chart (attack still misses). But if I miss that Confirmation Roll, I have to roll on Fumble.

Same goes for Natural 20s. Even if they miss their Confirmation Roll, they will still roll twice their dice. But if they hit that Confirmation, they roll for Extreme Crit Chart.

...

Now onto the unfairness being brought up. I made this completely rule optional. With four players (Barbarian, Paladin, Druid, Rogue), only the Paladin didn't want to play it. A few sessions in, the other 3 rolled great Natural 20s and some Nat 1s. And those three tend to be the ones who deal the largest damage, give enemies major conditions, and have cool scenes in combat. But also suffered debilitating conditions.

The effects rolled on Extreme Crit are;

- Stun an enemy for a round.

- Give Advantage to allies

- Roll four times your dice

- Reduce an Enemy's stats/speed/AC/Save

- Enemy is Frightened.

The Fumbles rolled so far;

- Disarmed until the end of next turn.

- Disadvantage on rolls.

- Weapon accidentally hit ally within range.

The Paladin has talked to me how the others feel stronger and I told him he can opt in to use my Chart and join in on the chaos but he still on the stance it will just disadvantage him more (what if he rolled three Nat 1s in a row or something like that).

I show them the chart so they know what to expect. Its optional, risks and rewards. So i don't know why he feels like its "unfair".

Is this a good price for a 2022 Suzuki Swift? First time buying a car.

$20,000 with only 25,000 km on it. I am not knowledgeable about cars, and I'm buying my first one, so I do need some opinions.

Should I get this one, or a 2021 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport Hatch. $25,000 with 50,000 km.

How much time and effort should I spend on economics and politics?

So my homebrew setting takes place in a post apocalyptic world where eight major settlements exist as a safehaven from the monsters outside their walls.

So far, Trade happens through two things;

- Safeguarded caravans and dedicated Wastewalkers who travel between two settlements bringing goods.

- One of the safehaven is a small flying city. It passes through each settlement and docks to refill and trade, but it takes months to reach a settlement.

I am only giving out numbers of gold values and bartering of items. (Im not even sure if I should use currency given the state of the world? Im not versed in that topic. Should Bartering be more common?.)

As for government/politics, each Safehaven are ran differently, one is a triumvirate of the merchant, scholar, and military leaders. One is a theocracy.

So far I am only enforcing certain moral laws like no stealing or killing of course. But should I actually write down unique laws for each?

I have a new player who is eager for more political intrigue and the main adventure seems to be going that way, and I am SO underprepared.

Should I just research ancient civilisations and copy them?

I have acquired the Yawning Portal Inn mini premium set very cheaply. And I want to use it in a one-shot, but don't know how to make one that's centered/focused in the tavern/inn.

A friend who's about to move to another country sold it to me for 100 aud (around 70 usd?). Its in perfect condition and has all of its parts.

How can I use it and integrate it into a oneshot?

I had a few ideas:

- The players are assassins and their target is in the inn, but they are not sure who exactly it is because the description given to them is too vague and applies to many patrons.

- The players are stuck in the town due to a time loop, and the reason for it is someone keeps dying in the inn. And they have to keep them alive for the entire day for the loop to break.

- Since there is the well to the Undermountain, maybe a swarm of monsters comes through it?

- Maybe a murder mystery, no one can leave the inn?.

I am mainly concerned that it might feel too isolated.

A player (Cleric of Ilmater) wishes to change Cure Wounds into magically transferring the damage to her character. Should I give her bonuses to something? Or should I tell her to just flavour her spell slots consumed as her "taking the damage" from her healing allies' wounds?

Her character's core concept is that she takes the pain of others for herself. And she follows Ilmater. And everytime she casts Cure Wounds or any healing spells (even Lesser Restoration) she'd ask me if she can take damage equal to the amount she healed.

Now, I just let her do it as she roleplays it really well and I thought it was a really great way for a cleric to immerse in their clerical duties/oaths so I started brainstorming some bonuses to her character, maybe Resistance to certain damage types? Or more spell slots? But I dont know how to balance it at the same time make it satisfying.

Or I can just not change anything and let her nerf herself.

How many DMs incorporate player backstories to their campaign?

We have started a module Storm King's Thunder. Me and another player made a short backstory detailing our drive to go on this adventure. My love one was kidnapped by a Giant and the other player who is playing a Goliath, looking for their Giant parent. The other players are just in it for the money.

Except we have been playing for months and there is no hint about our backstories present in our journeys. We roleplay, we ask every npc if they've heard of this and that. Still, nothing.

Its getting to the point me and that other player would just give up roleplaying and get as much loot as possible like the others then move on to the next thing, get the gold, move out. There isn't even anywhere to spend the gold we are hoarding.

It got to the point where me and Goliath player became more silent (since there is nothing for us to roleplay about anyway, aside from our backstories, no shop, there's no presented vision except for "you're in a forest") and the DM keeps glancing at the two of us expecting us to....start the roleplay? But without any payoff? Its so tiring.

Someone's dog came up to me and licked a small wound on my leg. Should I be worried about it?

Ive read there are no rabies in Australia, but would it be wise to go to a gp anyway to see what they think?
