Hound Tor

Hound Tor

Another approach to a north east Dartmoor Tor. 📷mine from late September ‘25.
I have wrongly identified this as Hound, but unable to edit title. I’m now sure it is the approach to Higher Tor heading north with Belstone beyond. It’s a wonderful hike.

Camping on the plains below Fur Tor, Dartmoor

This is my one person Henry Shires from an overnighter in September around 10 years ago. Fur Tor may be the most remote of all the Dartmoor Tors. A stream provided fresh drinking water. Bogs abound. A hike up on to the Tor reveals a spectacular landscape 360 degrees.

Another ancient Dartmoor Bronze age site. A pair! Two for one, they sit side by side. A stone’s throw from Sittaford Tor. 📷 mine from April ‘25

Sittaford recumbent Stone Circle

As discovered in 2007 by Alan Endacott. This Neolithic or early Bronze Age site is on northern Dartmoor, Devon. Around 30 stones concealed under the moorland peat. Part of the ‘Sacred Crescent’ perhaps. 📷 by me and my shadow 🌞

I’m atop Thirlstone at Watern Tor on a busy April day last year, looking south, in glorious weather.

Wild Tor

In April of last year i took the Lanshan 1 on to Dartmoor and overnighted here. The mist is approaching from the west. A great spot.

Erme Plains

An overnighter with tarp at Dancers Stone Circle. Achieved on my second attempt walking in from Ivybridge in July ‘21. This is at the southern terminal of the longest prehistoric stone row in the world. Phew 😅

My first Bobby concert. A great adventure and introduction. Not too shoddy support too including Joan Armatrading and Graham Parker. How much? 😍

End of the Road Festival 2026

What are your thoughts? I picked up a ticket but only know half a dozen acts. Discovering brill new live music is half the fun. Good beer tents too! 😎
