Does anyone remember this game?
I didn't own too many SNES games when I was a kid but this was one of them. And it completely baffled me back then. It's hard to even describe, it's kind of like Sim City meets Advance Wars meets Street Fighter. You control a small dot on the map which represents Godzilla and you're supposed to get to certain points of the map to do battle with other Kaiju but when you fight them it flips to this sort of 2D fighting game with really wonky controls that I didn't understand. You have to hold backwards if I remember correct and charge up attacks that you then unleash on the other kaiju.
Does anyone have advice for end of life care?
My 93 year old grandma is currently living with her dying 89 year old sister and it's getting to be too much for her. Her sister has been in bad health for the last 10 years but in the past 6 months it's gotten extremely bad. She broke her femur just moving slightly in bed and has been debilitated ever since. She doesn't move, she doesn't eat barely anything. She needs to be changed and bathed.
My grandma is insanely strong for her age, she still does yard work everyday. But this is taking it's toll on her. She's woken up 5 times a night with her sister screaming for her in pain. She sleeps when she can during the day. Her sister keeps getting UTI because my grandma just isn't capable of changing her every 2 hours like she needs to be. My grandma's sister has children, but her son lives in GA and her daughter is also in critical condition in the hospital and just had brain surgery.
Right now both are in a Hospice, but they want to bring her back home because they keep giving her morphine for the pain and they're scared that they're killing her. Which granted, they probably will end up doing. I mean I can understand. If it was my mother i wouldn't want to let go either, but at this point I think they're just prolonging her suffering. This isn't any way for a human to live, in constant pain, unable to move or enjoy anything. But it's their family and not my place to object.
As long as they are bringing her back home though I would like to know if there are any options for 24 hour care givers. Right now they just have 1 nurse who comes once a day for an hour to bath her, but she needs constant round the clock care. My grandma cannot keep doing this, and I don't mind lending a hand but I'm not a medical nurse or a professional. I don't know how to move elderly people safely or what to do in an emergency. She has both Medicare and Medicaid so it shouldn't be an issue of money or coverage I'd think.
If anyone has any suggestions. Thank you.
I feel like a tool because I asked for the trading settlement feature but it feels a little OP.
Like I just didn't want a situation where the Dwarfs held one minor settlement in the Empire and I couldn't get it without declaring war on them. But now I just trade settlement to bankrupt factions before going to war with them. Getting military alliances with races that should hate my guts. It's kind of like a fix all to diplomatic problems. Even minor settlements that aren't developed are worth crazy amounts of value in the AI's eyes.
What are your top 5 Godzilla movies of all time?
Mine are
- Godzilla vs Mechgodzilla (1974)
Kaiju: Godzilla, Anguirus, Mechagodzilla, King Caesar
The very first Godzilla movie I ever saw, so it's nostalgic to me but I also think watching it in retrospect it still holds up. For a Shōwa era film it's surprisingly dark and gritty, Godzilla up to this point had kind of been a kid's mascot but here there's lots of blood and humans killing aliens. The transformation sequences always freaked me out when they turned into ape monsters. Mechagodzilla himself is absolutely brutal here. Poor Anguirus :'(
- Godzilla vs Destoroyah (1995)
Kaiju: Godzilla, Destoroyah, Godzilla Jr.
As you can probably tell by the list the Heisei era is my favorite era. Maybe I'm just edgy like that but I very much appreciate the more serious tone. And I think the costumes, miniature city building and practical effects were at their peak, and this one takes the cake for being the best of that era. I liked that they tied it back to the Oxygen destroyer from the original film coming full circle and Godzilla is given an awesome heroic and epic death that actually jerked a tear out of kid me. First half of the film plays out almost like a horror movie when Destoroyah is still scatters and small, really scary and intense scenes!
- Godzilla vs Biollante (1989)
Kaiju: Godzilla, Biollante
I'll grant you the premise of this one is kind of silly. The daughter of a scientists' soul is fused together with a flower and some G-Cells to create Biollante, and this is probably more nostalgia talking since I was a kid and the Heisei films are what made me a life long fan but I love Biollante. Something about plant monsters I find really intriguing. It has two forms, the first a giant Flower with tentacles that you see on the cover art. And the second a more dinosaur like being that makes Godzilla look kinda small standing next to it. Biolantte was my first Godzilla action figure too. I really wish I still had them. -_-
- Godzilla vs King Ghidorah (1991)
Kaiju: Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mecha King Ghidorah
Mecha King Ghidorah is probably my favorite Kaiju and I can't wait to play with him in the Destroy All Monsters remake game. This movie serves as an origin story for Godzilla and King Ghidorah. Future humans are the villains here where in the Showa era films it was just aliens. But using the futuristic time machine they're able to recover King Ghidorah's defeated corpse and transform it into Mecha King Ghidorah which is one of the coolest designs I've seen for any Kaiju.
- Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla II (1993)
Kaiju: Godzilla, Rodan, Mecha Godzilla II, Baby Godzilla
Closing out the circle is the Heisei era's revisiting of Mecha Godzilla. Constructed from the future tech found from Mecha King Ghidorah it's built as an anti Godzilla weapon and man I'm a sucker for this Pacific Rim style story where a team of pilots get in this awesome mecha to do battle with Godzilla. I always really liked Rodan growing up too. Godzilla is, I'm hesitant to say the villain of this one, as he's always presented more as a force of nature. Like an Earthquake is neither good nor evil, it just is. But he's for sure the antagonist here and I think Godzilla makes a great antagonist ever since the black and white original way back when.
Wait... is it actually controversial that the humans are the worst part of the new Godzilla movies?
They're not particularly memorable, well developed or fun to watch. Every time they were on screen I was just wishing they'd hurry back to Godzilla and Kong beating up some CGI kaiju. I assumed everyone felt this way.
My absolute favorite moment in any Gundam show.
Episode 33 of Zeta Gundam
Haman: You there in the sunglasses, approach the princess!
...
...
... Her highness is waiting.
*Char begins to walk forward and removes his sun glasses*
Char: "Princess"
Mineva: "I knew it! You ARE Char Aznable! You haven't changed a bit, it's good to see you again. You used to play with me I remember it clearly."
Char: "I'm surprised you can remember that, you WERE only 2 years old."
*Mineva gasps realizing her status and where they are looking at Haman for a cue*
Mineva: "Thank you for your long term reconnaissance of the Earth sphere, the time has arrived for Axis to make it's move."
*leans back into her seat*
"I request that you assist us in reviving the Zabi family."
*Char begins walking forward*
"True prosperity for all spacenoids depends on the restoration of Zeon."
*Char bends over and faces Mineva looking her straight in her eyes*
"Zeon Deikun's-"
*Mineva gasps losing her train of thought, looking away from Char trying to recall the speech she memorized*
Char: "Please continue... your highness"
Haman: "CHAR AZNABLE!"
*Char stands back up straight and faces towards Haman*
"How DARE you raise Mineva like this. You've made this child a parrot!"
Even though the AEUG was desperate for help, even though they were surrounded by armed guards, and even though Char had sworn vengence against the Zabi family. Char had no compulsion about telling off Haman. He saw Mineva for the innocent child she was and was legitimately enraged that she had been taken advantage of in this fashion, turned into a figure head for a cause she barely understood.
I gained ALOT of admiration for Char. I liked his character up to this point. But this scene made me love him.
Wish there was a clip on Youtube.
36(M) what do you guys think
Someone mentioned that I didn't have any photos of me smiling or looking relaxed. That was deliberate since I don't think I have a good smile but I'll include some pictures of me on vacation if it makes any difference.
