Best games with class systems?

I’m a big fan of class systems in games like in Dragon Quest IX, Bravely Default, and several other DQ or FF games.

But I find as I get older I have a couple of pet peeves.

Specifically, I like when games let you unlock more specialized classes based on what you have mastered so far (think original DQVII - haven’t played the remake yet to see if they kept it - or drpgs like Etrian Odyssey V that allows you to pick one of two specializations) instead of just bouncing from any job to any job like FF X-2.

I also dislike when mastering a job gives you nothing for any future jobs. You are the best at X but if you switch jobs, nothin’. So, maybe a stat boost? A skill that carries forward? Something, anything to reward my bothering to master multiple classes.

So looking for games that fit the bill and have class trees of one sort or another, while also rewriting the player for working to master more than necessary.

What are the best games that fit the bill? Any platform or game era.

Finally have them back!

Sold my RPG collection a while back when I needed money. Delighted to find copies of two of my favourites again!

Setsuka - Has She Always Had Oddly Small Hands?

Trying to figure out if I never realized or if they changed something. Now I can’t unsee.

Advice on build

HP too light? Anything I should specifically work on? Thought I’d get some advice before I modify anything more.

Child care while dealing with floods etc.

Just a heads up for anyone needing last minute child care in next week or for others in the summer due to flooding etc. (or just because too, I suppose) - I just found out the City facility at Dempsey for those in the vicinity has several spots for campers 6-12.

Good luck with clean up all.

Looking for a faster paced crpg - suggestions?

I love crpgs and the complexity that often accompanies them, especially character creation and builds.

But I do find they sometimes border on too bloated, with so many things you can do in the most inconsequential fight that the pacing suffers. As much as I love Larian games, I find they can be a good example of this. And playing Wrath of the Righteous again is what’s inspiring this post.

Conversely, I was pleasantly surprised by the options available in the RTWP version of Pillars of Eternity 2 where you could essentially create complex macros that make ploughing through scrub fights a breeze.

So I’m looking for other options where the core elements of a good crpg are there, but the combat is a bit slicker and faster paced.

Another good comparator is how slick Persona 5’s combat is as compared to other jrpgs, despite still being turn based.

So, any suggestions?

Any solution for strabismus?

I wear reading/computer glasses with a prism due to seeing double at short range (weirdly perfect double, no blur, which is super challenging for reading).

I’ve tried a pair of Viture glass briefly, and couldn’t stop the double vision even after playing with the adjusters (which I realize are for myopia etc., but the glasses are neat and I wanted to see what I could do). Is there a solution?

Are Nomads immune to crime or am I doing something wrong with experimental sentencing?

Following ship new problem... Anyone else have this issue? Two runs in a row ruined because Arkship is stuck.

Anyone have RP ideas for Nomads?

Still trying nomads and it’s very cool. But maybe because of my preference for tall play, I had imagined a nomad empire to be one with just one big, ever increasing, ship travelling around.

While I do think it’s neat to have multiple arkships of different types, it does feel along with harvesting and way lines relatively micromanagement heavy.

Pretty sure it’ll get better when I don’t suck at it so much.

But still struggling to come up with an RP for multiple arkships and the way the system works.

Couple role play ideas I’ve tried to work with:

Military research and development company via corporate gov plus military contractors type civics etc. (a la Xenosaga’s Vector Industries)

Transformers (the 80s cartoon starts with a literal arkship settling on Earth - plus the lithoid voice sounds like Optimus a bit)

Trying to work on an idea for a Gundam like build that uses strikecraft (that I’ll pretend are mecha)

I saw someone post an idea for the Guild from Dune.

Plus the forever cruise whole Wall-E thing and the Khan heir.

But could really use more ideas, especially for things that justify multiple arkships and the waystations.

Any good fiction to liberally borrow ideas from? Especially where there’s a good connection between the nomads stuff and a specific ascension path.

Dropped my DECK - any suggestions?

So the left thumb stick is stuck like this after falling off a side table.

I’ve never messed with the hardware at all, so curious if anyone has tips to fix.

Thanks

Is there any way to get Divine Sovereign back?

Part way through a cosmogenesis run and got tired of letting a next door fallen empire humiliate me to avoid war. Thought I was maybe ready to take them on. But an annoying ally, who keeps having insurrections, got me embroiled in another war and I kind of forgot the FE might attack. So several years later when my fleets are too far the FE declares war.

After token resistance, I realize I’m not getting anywhere without my fleets back in time and lose the war. No big deal I figure, just back to humiliated stance.

And that’s when I remember they murder my ruler. My immortal chosen divine sovereign ruler.

Losing him was annoying, but even worse was losing the civic and council position.

Any way to get it back? Shortly after I got the random event where immortality is given to a random leader - not the chosen title, just the power from the shroud generic one. Not sure if that will help, but a decade with nothing.

If it matters, I’ve turned down all covenants already, including the Whisperers, hoping to lose the chosen civic and forge my own path. Didn’t work for some reason so now I’m kinda just floating around the shroud without any of the powers…
