And unlike all other meaningless nights, I figured out something about myself today. Perhaps I am the cause of the life I lead. When a gust of wind brushes past my cheeks, setting locks of my hair into motion, I choose to perceive it as longing, as nostalgia. Would things have been different if I had chosen to look back into a sunny day? Would I have been happier if I had a purpose, a direction to look forward to, a path to walk on? I yearn, but there's no one to yearn for. At the strangest hours of the night, at the emptiest places with no sign of life, I find myself looking for something. What is it that am I looking for? Is it a soul with a living and a beating heart just as mine, or have I been looking at a reflection, even failing to perceive that it belongs to nobody else but me? All this time, have I been looking at someone else? Or have I been, witlessly, looking at myself, happier still that the silhouette at my feet smiles at me?
