How long did your security clearance actually take to come through?

I passed the interview and got a provisional offer over four months ago, but the vetting process feels like it has dropped into a black hole. Is this normal or should I be actively chasing the recruitment team? I am genuinely running out of savings while waiting to actually start the job

What is the actual monthly cost of utilities for a one bed flat right now?

I am trying to build a proper budget for my move next month. I know what my rent will be, but I am struggling to estimate the extra costs. Roughly how much should I expect to pay per month for council tax, gas, electricity, and broadband for a typical one bedroom flat? Just want to make sure I don't get hit with any massive surprises

Best times to work shifts

Trying to figure out when I get the most orders. Are weeknights better than weekends? Lunch rush better than dinner? What's your experience with different times? Want to maximise my earnings but I don't want to work dead hours

How do long term residents actually feel about the changes the area has gone through in the last decade and is the conversation around gentrification as straightforward as it sometimes gets presented?

Rewatching Remembrance of the Daleks and the details are blowing my mind

I've been rewatching Remembrance of the Daleks recently and honestly it’s such a fun story. I love that they went back to the real Coal Hill School and Totter’s Lane locations, it feels like such a perfect callback to the very beginning of the show. I was also reading through some trivia while watching and only just realised they used a separate voice actor to imitate Davros purely to throw viewers off, which is such a clever little production detail. It’s things like that which make digging into the Classic era so enjoyable for me. Does this story still hold up for everyone else, or is nostalgia carrying some of it?

Do you guys think Russell T Davis wanted his Doctor Who to last longer?

I was watching a video by CrispyPro, a Doctor Who YouTuber, where he discussed the original plan for the post-Chris Chibnall era.

In the video, he mentions how the idea for David Tennant (10th and 14th Doctor) return first came to him after David and Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) appeared in a Doctor Who re-run watch along during the beginning of Covid-19.

Originally, Russell wanted the Doctor Who Disney Plus specials to be never before seen adventures of the Doctor and Donna Noble, instead of taking place in the modern day, and this would mean Ncuti Gatwa Doctor would’ve been the 14th Doctor.

Something that many fans probably would’ve referred as the concept of Bi-Generation was controversial and stupid. It takes away from the suspense and impact of regeneration as a whole.

Anyways, all of this got me thinking, what if Russell wanted his second Doctor Who run to last longer?

Because he was giving us fans non-stop Doctor Who content with the Disney Plus specials, his two seasons of Doctor Who, and of course, the War between the land and sea mini-series.

And he also wanted fans to have something during COVID while we all waited for the next Doctor.

Thoughts?

Hands down one of the best scenes from season 1

The way Vince and Bollo are just sitting there confused while Harrison completely loses it is peak Boosh 😄 What’s your favourite quote from this episode?

Why are branded painkillers still so much more expensive than generics in the UK?

Was picking up hayfever tablets and ibuprofen earlier and it always surprises me seeing branded painkillers at £4–£5 while the generic versions next to them are under 40p. I know the active ingredients are usually identical, so I’ve always wondered how much difference there actually is in practice when brands market things as fast acting or targeted. Do most people working in pharmacy just buy the cheapest generic available themselves, or are there situations where the branded versions are genuinely worth paying more for?

A gorgeous Chicken of the Woods, but look at the host tree!

I saw this incredible Chicken of the Woods growing right on a Yew tree. Most guidebooks say you should never eat it when it grows on Yew because the tree is highly toxic, and the fungus can swallow up poisonous needles or bark as it grows. It's a great reminder to always check the host tree first. Would you ever risk harvesting one from a Yew?

Siobhán Redmond returns as The Rani in new War Doctor audio box set

If anyone keeps up with the Big Finish audios, The War Doctor Rises: Fear of the Light dropped yesterday and brings back the Rani for the first time in ten years. Siobhán Redmond is playing her opposite Jonathon Carley’s War Doctor, and the plot apparently forces them to work together against the Daleks during the Time War. Redmond mentioned in the release interview that she loves playing her because she's incredibly clever, naughty, and has absolutely zero empathy. Always enjoy a good Rani story, has anyone listened to it yet?

King George V and Queen Mary aboard the Imperial Durbar train during the 1911 Delhi Durbar

A photo of King George V and Queen Mary standing on the platform of their royal train during the 1911 Delhi Durbar. The carriage was designed with intricate Indian-style latticework (jaali), blending British royal transport with local craftsmanship. Does anyone know if this specific carriage still exists today, or where it ended up?

Is the full-size Milk Hydro Grip primer (£35) a steal or a trap?

I’m finally thinking about trying the Milk Hydro Grip primer, but the size/pricing difference is stressing me out. The mini is around £18 for 10ml, while the full size is about £35 for 45ml, which feels way better value. But at the same time, I’m scared I’ll buy the big one and then realise it pills on my skin or makes me greasy. If you have use it, how long does the 10ml mini actually last? Is it enough to properly test it out, or should I just go for the full size straight away?

Weirdly fitting that this Banksy piece no longer exists now

Part of me feels like the temporary nature of street art is what makes pieces like this hit harder in the first place. The abandoned farmhouse setting made the whole thing feel unsettling even before it disappeared.

One concealer I actually keep reaching for..

The Too Faced Born This Way Sculpting Concealer genuinely lasts ages and the coverage is so good for dark circles, but I feel like I’m constantly cleaning around the cap 😭 Tried so many concealers lately but I always end up coming back to this one. Tiny amount goes a long way. Does anyone have another concealer they love just as much, or do you always end up returning to one favourite too?

Old snowy photo of the Ancient House in Walthamstow!

Just found this photo of the Ancient House when it was still a bookshop. It looks so different in the snow. It’s wild to think it's been around since the 15th century. We really do have some amazing history right on our doorstep. Does anyone know if much of the original interior is still left now?

Anyone know if the Walthamstow River Island could be affected by the store closures?

Saw the news about River Island closing 30+ branches and it made me wonder if the Walthamstow one could end up affected too. Between that and some of the empty units in 17&Central already, parts of the high street are starting to feel a bit bleak lately. If more big chains do disappear, what would you actually want replacing them? Personally I’d rather see more independent shops and fewer betting stores.

With the ongoing shortages affecting some epilepsy meds lately, I was wondering how people are managing patients who can’t safely switch brands. What’s usually the process in your pharmacy when the wholesaler has no stock but the prescription is specifically marked as no substitution? Are people contacting prescribers straight away, checking independents, owing scripts, etc? Feels like these shortages are becoming more common recently.

It’s great that these were a joint project between the local community and the students at Walthamstow School for Girls. They really brighten up the walk toward the Village and the William Morris Gallery. Does anyone know if there are more of these planned around E17?
