Breastfeeding and fasting? When are short fasts safe/reasonable?

Keto/carnivore breastfeeding mama here. I’m fat adapted and have been keto for almost 90 days. I currently do two meals a day so I guess I fast 16:8. I’m not really keeping track. I eat when I’m hungry and I’m 8 months postpartum. I’m not looking to start fasting immediately, but I wanted to see if anyone out there started fasting longer while breastfeeding. For example, OMAD? If so, when did you feel comfortable doing this and did it affect your milk supply? Was it closer to a year? As always, baby comes first. Hydration and electrolytes are key. I’m not going to do anything stupid, I’m just curious when people felt safe to do so.

Breastfeeding, postpartum thyroiditis-hypo, carnivore diet, stalled weight loss

Trigger warning: mentions stillbirth.
So I’m not sure where to post this question because it’s so multifaceted, but I thought I’d try here. I’ve probably had thyroid problems for a while but didn’t know it. I’ve given birth four times. I have two beautiful children. My first two pregnancies were traumatic and I had two stillbirths back to back. With each of these losses I pumped my breastmilk to donate. I pumped for 6 months with my first and 5 months my second. With my first two pregnancies, I lost the weight by doing absolutely nothing and the weight was gone in less than 3 months. I also had severe anxiety. I chocked it up to the fact I was pumping, getting sleep(weight loss part) and recovering from loss(anxiety part). Anyway, my last pregnancy (3rd), it took probably about 15 months to reach my pre-pregnancy weight(had to lose 25lbs) and I was trying hard for most of the year. I chocked the slow weight loss to getting less sleep because I was actually caring for a baby and maybe breastfeeding slows weight loss down. I was also ridiculously tired… but I thought isn’t everyone? Anyway, it was annoying that the weight took so long to come off. So this time I wanted to do better. I’m 7 month postpartum (4th baby) and was diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis- hypo phase. My TSH was initially 6.46 and I felt awful. With lifestyle changes I brought it down to 4.56. Because I didn’t want to be miserable for a year I started 12.5mcg of levothyroxine. I’ve been on the medication for 6 weeks. I’ve been on a ketovore diet for 8 weeks and just switched to the carnivore diet to help with healing and weight loss. Since being on the medication and diet I’ve felt so much better and finally have energy to workout. I walk with two kiddos in the stroller 3 miles a day with hills about 5 days a week and I also do resistance training 5 days a week. My new TSH was better but not optimal at 3.55. My weight hasn’t budged and I’m frustrated. So my question is… is it my thyroid? If you were me would you stick it out and not increase my levothyroxine dose? Is it because I’m breastfeeding? Why can’t I lose any weight? Should I just be patient and give it more time? And even if it is just breastfeeding, will all my months of hard work pay off? Does the body remember? I don’t want it to take 15 months again. I also don’t want to be on medication long term. Thanks for reading and your thoughts. PS- I know the carnivore diet/keto diet can be controversial for some, especially while breastfeeding, but it’s the only thing that worked for me in the past which is why I’m sticking to it. Also, my supply is fine on it.

Entertainment for 3yo boy while I workout

Hi! Can anyone recommend engrossing activities for my 3yo while I do 30 minutes of resistance training every morning? I don’t want to do screens and I want it just for this specific time. Chat GPT recommended all the stuff that I’ve already tried that he’s tired of. We’ve tried kinetic sand, play dough, Lovevery sink, rice, magnatiles, duplos doctor kit, and just his general independent play. I’ve also tried having him workout with me and it can be dangerous sometimes so I want him occupied. Any suggestions? Thanks!

How many times can you have postpartum thyroiditis without going hypothyroid permanently?

I’ve had four babies. First time actually diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis. Likely had it in my past 3 pregnancies. I’m guessing hyper for my first two and hypo for my last two. Currently 6 months postpartum with my fourth and hypothyroid. So far they’ve resolved each time. Last time though it took 18 months to lose my pregnancy weight and I was trying. Trying right now too and it’s frustrating. Anyone have multiple episodes and not develop full blown hypothyroidism? For context I previously had low grade antibodies but normal thyroid function between my last two pregnancies.

How to wean off dairy to fix thyroid?

Backstory: 6 months postpartum, breastfeeding, struggling with postpartum thyroiditis(hypothyroidism phase). I’ve been ketovore(90% meat) for 6 weeks and wanting to transition back to full carnivore to fix my thyroid. I’ve done carnivore in the past with dairy but getting rid of butter, cheese, and heavy cream seems so hard and sad. Especially when I am ravenous sometimes due to breastfeeding. I have to get enough calories, water, and electrolytes to keep my supply up. Anyway, anyone have any tips on what to eat instead when those cravings hit? Or are most people just going cold turkey? Any easy snacks that are quick, easy, and high fat? I know I should eat bigger meals with more fat but breastfeeding makes me hungry (even after enormous meals) and I need snack options. I’m currently doing two meals a day and 3 meals seems like so much work.

Can a dairy sensitivity cause joint pain in hands and feet? (Currently in hypo phase postpartum thyroiditis)

Or is that just a symptom of hypothyroidism? I just started my levothyroxine a week ago and I’m feeling somewhat better fatigue, brain fog, and cold intolerance wise, but my carpal tunnel like symptoms are still there. I don’t even know if I should call it carpal tunnel but my hands and sometimes feet hurt. I really don’t want to give up dairy, but I’m open to an elimination diet trial. I already gave up gluten several years ago.

Has anyone tried Beam Minerals for electrolytes?

I heard a podcast saying this electrolyte is more bioavailable compared to something like LMNT. The creator also said high salt electrolytes can cause mineral imbalances and deficiencies which can lead to issues like fatigue(I’m trying to heal my thyroid). The creator also wrote a book (haven’t read) on how our society is severely mineral deficient and it could be contributing to a lot of health problems. I thought it was interesting and was curious to see if anyone has tried it?

Would you take Levo if you were me?

I’m 6 months postpartum, and one month ago my TSH was 6.42, free T4 was 0.8, free T3 was 3.0, T3 total was 104. One month ago was severely symptomatic. With diet, cosleeping(somewhat more sleep), sunlight, and red light therapy I improved my numbers to the labs in the above picture. With lifestyle modifications, I would prefer to only be on levothyroxine for a short period of time. I do feel better, however, I still have fatigue, trouble losing weight, and dry skin. It’s hard to tell if that’s just postpartum stuff though. For those who took a natural approach to treating their Hashimoto’s, was it hard for you to get off levothyroxine when you started? I’m considering a super low dose of 12.5mcg. My doctor is giving me the option of treatment or monitoring. Thanks.

Has anyone healed their postpartum thyroiditis doing carnivore diet while breastfeeding?

I’m currently 6 months postpartum, breastfeeding, and am 2 weeks in doing ketovore/mostly carnivore. Milk supply seems the same. Baby is flourishing and just started solids. I’ve done some carnivore in the past and it worked beautifully. Would love to hear success stories if they exist.

Postpartum thyroiditis and levothyroxine- would you start?

Hello, I’m new here so forgive me if this isn’t the right sub for this post. I’m 6 months postpartum, breastfeeding, and have postpartum thyroiditis. One month ago my TSH was 6.40, Free T4 was 0.8, Free T3 was 3.0, TPO 459, TG 19, and total T3 104. I currently see a functional medicine doctor who amazingly caught my autoimmunity several years before I had any symptoms. Anyway, because of that I have been eating a whole food gluten free diet for over 2 years, trying to avoid Hashimoto’s. But now I think I have symptoms. I’m always tired, brain fogged, sometimes moody, sometimes cold intolerant, maybe dry skin, and haven’t lost any weight since after giving birth despite effort. No other Hashimoto’s symptoms. I believe I had undiagnosed postpartum thyroiditis with my last pregnancy because I couldn’t lose weight until 12 months postpartum and I was incredibly tired. But it’s hard to say since some of those symptoms are crossover from just having a baby and my baby won’t take a bottle so it’s all me. Anyway, in an ideal world would like to treat without medication and continue a low carb gluten free whole food diet(anti-inflammatory) and get better like I did last time. This time I also have access to low level laser therapy (LLLT) and plan on using that to help me heal. (If unfamiliar, or interested, I listed two interesting studies from medical journals below). Since these studies are not for postpartum thyroiditis I’m literally just experimenting on myself. My doctor didn’t have any objections. Anyway, my doctor ended up prescribing me 25mcg of levothyroxine and said I could take 12.5mcg if I wanted. She also said I could stop it if I wanted too. My question is, if you were me, would you start the medication? My thought is taking it for about 6 months to help my body recover, feel better, and lose weight and then go off of it again. If taking a low dose with similar labs, how long did it take you to feel better? If coming off levothyroxine, was that hard? Anyone with experience with LLLT and postpartum thyroiditis? Thanks for your thoughts and input.
