Do you notice a difference in attitude between cold weather fans and hot weather fans, when talking to people who *don't* like their preferred temps?

That title is *not* concise, sorry. Here's what I mean.

In my experience, most (not all) cold weather fans treat their preference as just that - a preference. I, personally, do not see many cold weather fans acting as though everyone *should* like cold weather or that cold weather is objectively good or nice. I also don't really see cold weather fans pretending that the extremes of winter (like storms, cold snaps and so on) don't exist, or that they're not big deals, or that people simply need to learn to enjoy the cold. I don't see many cold weather fans replying to people complaining about feeling sick due to the cold with comments like "🤣🤣🤣 wear a jumper you'll be fine".

On the other hand, it seems that many (not all) hot weather fans treat their preference as fact. I, personally, see hot weather fans acting like everyone *should* like hot weather and that hot weather is objectively good and nice. I also see hot weather fans pretending that the extremes of summer (like heatwaves, wildfires and so on) don't exist, or that they're not big deals, or that people simply need to learn to enjoy the heat. I see many hot weather fans replying to people complaining about feeling sick due to the heat with comments like "🤣🤣🤣 have an ice lolly you'll be fine".

Has anyone else noticed this difference? What do you think drives it?

(Note: I am not generalising. You can see that I've put "not all" several times throughout the post. If you come in with some "not AaaaAaAllll of us" nonsense, I will ignore you, because I never said it was all of any one group).

Some of these are heat-related speed restrictions, but are any of the signal/points failures weather-related too?

Lioness suspended Kilburn/Euston due to a signal failure at Euston. Bakerloo delayed Queens Park/Harrow due to a signal failure at Willesden Junction. Signal failure at Heathrow affecting the Liz, at Tooting affecting the Northern.

Plus points failures at East Finchley affecting the Northern and Walthamstow affecting the Victoria and Edgware Road affecting the Circle.

Is any of this weather related? I think there was a similar situation yesterday too.

What's the strangest, silliest or most unhinged thing you've tried to beat the heat? And did it work?

Desperate times call for desperate measures!

So far I have tried...

  • Soaking a t shirt, wringing it lightly and chucking it in the freezer for a bit, then wearing it. This works wonderfully but you do need to just stand there in the kitchen or bathroom as you'll be sodden and squelchy.

  • Similarly, dunking my head under the tap. It does work, but makes you look like you recently drowned. Probably don't try this at work.

  • Using a eucalyptus/mint body lotion to see if I could trick my skin into thinking it's cold. This didn't work.

  • Swapped to a mint flavoured vape liquid for similar reasons. Didn't make me feel cooler but certainly nicer in the heat than my usual custard type nonsense.

  • Long linen trousers instead of shorts. This works wonderfully. Most people think the less clothing you're wearing, the cooler you will feel, but linen is so breezy it works so much better.

  • Filling a hot water bottle with cold water and leaving it in the fridge for a bit, then adding ice cubes. This works really well, but not for very long sadly. I am tempted to put it in the freezer but I worry I will ruin the strength of the rubber, I don't fancy it exploding when the time comes to eventually fill it with hot water again.

  • Creating a playlist of "cold music". I don't even know at this point. Music that sounds cold.

How much ranch planning do you do?

Do you optimise your largos so they always have at least one easy-to-get favourite? Place slimes who eat the same food types near each other so you can get a drone to refill their auto feeders?

Or, have you done what I've done and arranged your ranch based only on vibes? Because I have some regrets 😅

What are your favourite Radiant Largos? (SR2)

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions! Here's my Radiant Boom/Twin. I love him. I currently have a radiant Pink and a radiant Ringtail and can't decide what to do with them.

Which are your favourite Largos?

Seems like there aren't many screenshots of all the combinations out there, and some screenshots are totally context-free, which isn't helpful as as far as I know it makes a difference which slime is radiant (please correct me if I'm wrong). As in, a Radiant Boom + Twin would look different to a Boom + Radiant Twin.

What do we think about the new buses?

I know they're not *new* new for all routes, looking online it seems like some routes got them before others. And I think there are a few different models - for example, the 112 has two sets of four seats facing one another near the back, while the 206 doesn't, and the 112 has two front-facing seats behind the front door while the 206 has one.

But anyway I'm talking about the new ones with the charging ports on the backs of seats and wood (or pretend-wood floor).

My thoughts...

  • They look fantastic imo but I do worry about how well the floor will hold up to wear and tear

  • The seats are way more comfortable

  • Charging ports are nice, I know they're not exactly rapid but still handy if you're very low on battery

  • I like that they're all eco-friendly, seems like they're all low emissions/zero emissions/electric

  • The big windows mean they feel a lot more airy and also it's easier to see where you are on unfamiliar routes

But...

  • It feels like you practically have to scale a mountain to get into some of the seats - the steps up to them are high. In particular the ones behind the driver and some of the ones near the back

  • The grab bars stick out really far into the aisles in places. It feels like you have to dodge past them... adds difficult to moving down the bus especially if you've got bags, or it's crowded, or people are sitting with their legs hanging into the aisle.

  • Don't exactly know how to describe this but some of them take speed bumps SO hard. Like, I'm coming up out of my seat and then slamming back down. It's stomach churning and kind of hurts.

You have magic powers which you can use at will but you can't reveal your powers to anyone. How are you improving your life?

Let's assume a standard fantasy load out of powers. Flying, teleporting, shape shifting, telekinesis, etc. etc.

You're allowed to, for example, use magic to grow all of your crops big and strong, but you're not allowed to let anyone see you - and you better have a reasonable explanation because you also lose if someone sincerely guesses correctly.

A sudden surprise.

Context: the viewpoint character Jack Aubrey is captain of the Royal Navy ship, the Leopard, which is being pursued by the Dutch ship Waakzaamheid. The seas they're in are so atrociously violent that there's no chance of the winner of the battle capturing the loser, as any damage heavy enough where there's a clear loser will mean that ship simply sinks. Jack is reflecting on the way that *six hundred men* all died in an instant as the Waakzaamheid sunk.

This is Desolation Island, from the Aubrey/Maturin series, also known as the Master & Commander series. I highly recommend them - the language can be a little dense but they are absolutely beautifully written, surprisingly funny, and overall really gripping.

Well, they're removed a LOAD of features... But don't worry, they've given us AI in return! 🫠

Can't stop laughing. They nicknamed a three-year-old kid 'Steroid'. What on earth could the backstory be here?

In my head, this kid is the most hench, wham, jacked, enormous child to have ever lived. The colony joked that he must be on steroids, and thus, the nickname. We love our huge toddler son.
