Designed by Peter Schimanowski, the legendary BMW 327 Sport Cabriolet was manufactured between 1937 and 1941, with a limited production run of just 1,396 units.
Under its long hood, the car is powered by a 2.0-liter straight-six engine. Depending on the exact specification, it pushed either 55 hp in the standard model or 80 hp if it was the high-performance 327/28 version equipped with triple Solex carbs. With a curb weight of around 1,100 kg, the standard 55 hp version could reach a top speed of 125 km/h. Meanwhile, the sportier 80 hp variant topped out at 140–145 km/h and could complete the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in about 19 seconds—which was genuinely impressive for the late 1930s.
To manage that power, the engine is paired with a 4-speed manual Hurth transmission, which featured advanced synchromesh on both 3rd and 4th gears for smoother shifting. All of this mechanical engineering relies on a classic pre-war 6-volt electrical architecture, supported by a 90W or 130W Bosch generator and a 0.6 hp starter motor to crank the inline-six to life.
