My husband wants to turn off vents in the rooms we are rarely in, but I read that it’s not good for the unit. Opinions?

We had a new toilet installed last week and now that bathroom smells like sewage, and the company that installed has an attitude bc we’re asking them to come back out.
No others bathrooms have this odor, and it didn’t have it before. What’s going on??
