I was recently banned from r/soccer just for defending Ronaldo. Am I in the wrong?

I told him he was innocent, and that he was proven not guilty. And then I get banned for being a "r*pe apologist" according to the mods. I honestly feel really upset. I am not an SA apologist. I think that SA is a horrible and disgusting crime. Feel free to look at my comment history in that thread. I don't think I said anything outlandish to warrant a ban. I promise, again, I think SA is a really bad thing.

Am I in the wrong for defending ronaldo here?

What if Cristiano Ronaldo stayed until 2021?

I think Ronaldo really only started to drop off in his second stint at United. At Juventus, he was still the same efficient striker. He won 5 domestic trophies and was the fastest in Juventus history to reach 100+ goals. And from 2019-2021, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing for Real Madrid. If he had stayed, how would it have been different?

The second that Messi retires, Argentina will be more hated than morocco.

Seriously, Messi is the only reason that this team has won anything, and the reason why people look past their shady actions. A good majority of argentina fans are racist, and so are the players. Also, a lot of argentina fans are messi fans.

Messi is literally the only likeable thing about argentina right now.

I was banned from the r/soccer sub for supposedly being an SA apologist. Was it fair? I was just arguing about a ronaldo thing.

As in the title, I got banned from the sub because I was supposedly being an SA apologist. I am not. I think SA is a horrible and disgusting crime. I just said that I thought ronaldo was innocent and I get banned for it? what is this? Was my comment really that bad? Feel free to look at my comment history if you want.

Messi and Ronaldo each deserve six Ballon d'ors. (In my opinion)

Let's start with Messi.

2009: Deserved. Won a Sextuple.

2010: Deserved. A lot of people say this is controversial, but I think Messi deserved it. He had over 70 g/a that season. (I think)

2011: Deserved. Won the UCL.

2012: Deserved. 91 Goals.

2015: Deserved. I love Neymar, but without Messi, Barcelona would not have won the treble.

2019: Deserved over van Dijk. Without Messi, Barcelona would have been nothing.

2021: Undeserved. Lewandowski made history by scoring 41 goals in one Bundesliga season. He matched Ronaldo's greatest goal-scoring year with 69 goals. He won the German Supercup, Bundesliga title, and Club World Cup. Lewandowski had more goal contributions than Messi.

2023: Undeserved. Sure, you could argue that Messi deserved it in 2021. But I can't understand him winning it in 2023. Yes, he won the world cup. Yes, he was by far the best player at the world cup. And no, I don't think it was rigged. But Messi went to the MLS in July of 2023. Also, he only won the league title with PSG in the 22/23 season. Haaland had 52 goals in 53 appearances for City, broke the all-time record for most goals in a Premier League season, and won the treble with City. No, he did not score in the UCL final or semi-final, but his goals were the reason City reached the final in the first place.

Let's move on to Ronaldo now.

2008: Deserved. One of, if not the, highest peaks we have seen from a footballer.

2013: Deserved. Ronaldo did not have the same trophies as Ribery, but he completely outperformed Ribery statistically.

2014: Deserved. La Decima and broke the UCL record for most goals in 1 season.

2016: Deserved. Won the UCL again and performed well.

2017: Deserved. Won back-to-back UCLs.

2018: Robbed by Modric. Ronaldo in 2018 had 49 goals and 13 assists compared to Modric's 4 and 12. I understand that comparing a forward and a midfielders attacking stats is unfair, but this level of statistical gap is still insane. Yes, Modric reached the world cup final with Croatia, but Ronaldo also had his best world cup ever, with a hat-trick against Spain. Ronaldo also won the Puskas award.

Who would win in a two-legged UCL Knockout tie, All-Time Real Madrid or All-Time Premier League?👀🔥

Personally, I think Madrid would win by one goal on aggregate. What do you guys think?

EDIT: PLEASE REPLACE RONALDO WITH HENRY IN THE PREM ALL-TIME. That was my mistake. Also, feel free to swap terry with vidic if you want

I love Lamine Yamal, but when people say that he will surpass Messi and Ronaldo, it feels very premature.

These are the stats of Messi and Ronaldo after they turned 30.

(Apologies if this image is outdated or inaccurate. I believe Ronaldo has 500+ goals after 30 and Messi has higher assist numbers. Please fact-check this.)

As we can see, their achievements, trophies, and statistics after turning 30 are good enough for an entire legendary career. Throughout their careers, they had (almost) no major or long-term injuries and constantly adapted their playstyles to make up for their dwindling physical abilities. They dominated European competitions and high-level domestic leagues as well as international competitions with playmaking and positioning.

But it's no secret that Messi and Ronaldo are complete freaks of nature. Typically, after you turn 32 or 33, your abilities as a footballer slowly begin to decline, or even a long-term injury can ruin everything. 2026 Carvajal was not the same as 2018 Carvajal. Rodri was never the same after he tore his ACL. Neymar's career, which is still an all-time great one, was ravaged by injuries. Injuries and early fatigue especially happen when you get overplayed too much.

Now look at Lamine Yamal. Don't get me wrong, he is one of the best players in the world (if not the best). But he has already had to deal with injuries and a couple off-the-pitch controversies. He is constantly being overplayed by both Hansi Flick and De La Fuente. Look at Bojan Kirkic. Over 900 academy goals, but pressure and injuries destroyed him. It took Dembele a while to overcome injuries to become a world-class forward.

I obviously hope that Yamal stays healthy throughout his career. He's a joy to watch. But the question isn't if he can have a better peak that Messi and Ronaldo. We need to consider if he can still win Ballon D'ors and Champions Leagues after his physical peak. That's why I find comparisons to Messi and Ronaldo now a bit premature. We don't know what is actually going to happen to him in his career. Just like Toni Kroos says, a career is a marathon.

How good was Makelele?

I've only been following football for a couple years, so I don't really know a lot about him. Was he better than Casemiro? What about the likes of Busquets and Matthaus? What was his playstyle, and how well did he perform for the club? Is he better than the likes of Rodri and Kante? Seriously, I want to know!

Why does Bugatti not have an F1 team?

I mean, you would assume that with other big car brands like Ferrari, Mercedes, and Mclaren and Cadillac being in F1, Bugatti would want to compete. Is there a reason that they choose not to?

We are NOT talking about these panels enough.

Okay, let's disect these:

Nigeria once again got obliterated. Let's be honest, they're about to get the Bayern vs. Barca 2020 treatment from France. But hey, at least Onazi probably scored.

Germany steamrolled Korea 4-1 and are likely going to top their group. This tells us more than we think. If Japan finish 2nd in their group, (which they will. Narratively, there is no way they get grouped), and Germany top their group, Germany and Japan will end up meeting BEFORE the final, which means that we might see them play in the quarter-finals or semi-finals.

Kaiser probably did not score 4 goals, but he likely got at least 2, and maybe Ness or Grim scored 1 each. He probably looks angry since Germany couldn't maintain a clean sheet because of a Korea last-minute consolation goal.

Bunny's Spain gave Qatar the 5-2 BTA. They have played 2 matches so far, and gotten 2 wins, so they likely topped their group. Bunny more than likely scored a hat trick while enabling his other teammates to score the other 2. Again, Spain have topped their group now, so they will likely face Japan before the final in either the quarter-finals, Ro16, or semi-finals.

It really depends on what Kaneshiro wants to do, but my prediction is:

Round of 32: Brazil.

Round of 16: Probably some form of elite opposition, like the Netherlands or Argentina. Very unpredictable. (EDIT: NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, JAPAN MIGHT FACE ITALY)

Quarter-Finals: Spain

Semi-Finals: Germany

Final: France.

Out of these three in 2008, who do you want taking a free kick from 30 yards out, taking a penalty, and trying to score a header?

I'll start.

Free Kick - CR7

Just look at the bangers this man was scoring from long range in his prime.

Header - Rooney

Rooney was an athletic freak in his prime. I am confident that he would be able to jump and slam the ball into the net with his head.

Penalty - Tevez

I am confident that he would be able to slot it away confidently. He does not seem like the guy to doubt himself, which I think would be important when taking a penalty.

What do you guys think?

I tried making an (mostly) unbiased Madrid vs. Barca all-time XI! How did I do?

4-3-3

GK - Iker Casillas vs Ter Stegen/Valdes/Courtois

You can also say Courtois, but either way, both are better than Victor Valdes and Ter Stegen. I prefer Casillas.

RB - Carvajal vs Dani Alves

Carvajal has 6 UCLs and is one of the best attacking right-backs ever. Also, frankly, I cannot separate what Dani Alves did off the field from what he did on the field. Just please do some research...

CBs - Ramos+Varane vs. Puyol+Pique

I went with Ramos and Puyol. They have an absurd trophy cabinet, are great threats from set pieces, good defenders, and amazing leaders. Puyol gets the Captains armband.

LB - Roberto Carlos/Marcelo vs Jordi Alba

You could also say Marcelo, but either way, both are better than Jordi Alba.

CDM - Sergio Busquets vs Casemiro/Makelele

Busquets is arguably the GOAT CDM, and as much as I love Casemiro and Makelele, Busquets clears both of them.

CMs - Modric/Zidane/Kroos vs Xavi/Iniesta

All 5 of these are the top 5 midfielders of all time (in my opinion), but I think I would edge it to Zidane and Modric as the two best.

LW - Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Neymar

I love Neymar, but let's not overthink it. It's Ronaldo.

ST - Johan Cruyff/Suarez vs R9/Benzema

I think Suarez had the highest peak as a striker, but all-time, it is certainly Cruyff.

RW - Messi vs. Gareth Bale

Again, don't overthink it. It's Messi.

Manager - Pep Guardiola vs Ancelotti/Zidane/Mourinho

Pep would be the manager, in my opinion. It depends on what style of football you prefer, but as an overall manager (tactics, transfers, mentality, etc) it is Pep.

I decided to compare Prime Messi vs. Prime Ronaldo attribute for attribute! How did I do?

(I am a Real Madrid and Man United fan, but I will try to be unbiased.)

I think Ronaldo's prime was from 2008-2018, and Messi's was from 2009-2023.

Pace (2 points): This means straight line speed. This goes to Ronaldo.

Dribbling (5 points): This means how well can you move the ball from Point A to Point B. This goes to Messi.

Passing/Playmaking (4 points): This means; how well can you create chances for your teammates? I think Ronaldo is underrated in this, but it still goes to Messi.

Heading (2 points): Ronaldo. He is 6'2".

Weak-Foot shooting (2 points): Ronaldo. Most weak-footed goals in history.

Free-Kicks (2 Points): Messi

Penalties (1 Point): Ronaldo

Impact on their National Teams (4 Points): Ronaldo. He led Portugal to qualify for every single tournament, and won them 3 trophies.

Big game performances (3 points): Ronaldo. Look at his performances against Sweden, Atletico, Spain, and Wolfsburg.

General Eyetest (4 Points): Messi

Athleticism (1 Point): Ronaldo (I'm only giving it one point since athleticism is not a big factor in football)

Vision (2 Points): Messi

Mentality (1 Point): Ronaldo

Shot Power (2 Points): Ronaldo

Trophies (4 Points): Messi

Longevity (2 Points): I will actually give this to Messi. His technical playstyle ages better for him compared to Ronaldo's playstyle.

Messi: 23. Ronaldo: 18

Messi is my GOAT, but it is closer than people think.

There is a difference between a clubs best player of all time and a clubs greatest player of all time.

A clubs BEST player ever had the greatest performance out of any other player in the clubs history while they were at the club.

A clubs GREATEST ever player is either the one who helped lay the foundations and identity of the club, or has basically become part of the clubs identity due to being there for so long.

Examples:

Juventus' best vs greatest ever player: CR7, Buffon

Bayern Munich's best vs greatest ever player: Lewandowski, Beckenbauer

Real Madrid's best vs greatest ever player: CR7, Di Stefano

Man United's best vs greatest ever player: CR7, Rooney

However, there are situations in which a player is both a clubs best AND greatest ever player.

Examples:

FC Barcelona: Lionel Messi

AC Milan: Paolo Maldini

AS Roma: Francesco Totti

Paris Saint-Germain: Kylian Mbappe

(Yes, I think this applies to Mbappe. He is better than Zlatan, Thiago Silva, Cavani, etc, and when you think of Mbappe, you still likely remember his PSG days)

Maradona is not a top 5 player and I am tired of pretending that he is.

My top 5 players ever is:

  1. Messi

  2. Cristiano Ronaldo

  3. Pele

  4. Cruyff

  5. Zidane

Also, frankly, Romario and Neymar are better than maradona.

Maradona does not have the statistics and especially not the longevity that Messi and Ronaldo do. While he was amazing to watch, Zidane rules the eyetest. Maradona's legacy was not just because of a lack of referee protection. He was a drug addict with connections to the mafia. Both Pele and Cruyff have greater legacies than him.

Don't get me wrong, Maradona is an all-time great, and probably a top 10 player of all time. But saying that he is top 5 is too much.

I have this little headcanon about Lorenzo that I can't stop thinking about.

So, we know Lorenzo is Italian.

And in Italy, the Ferrari F1 team is extremely popular.

So, my theory is that even while growing up poor, Lorenzo has always been a big Ferrari fan. He watches all the races, buys merch, and sometimes sneaks in the grandstands to watch the Italian Grand Prix.

The GOAT debate has become exhausting.

It's not even about stats or the eye-test anymore. It's become: "Who can Messi/Ronaldo fanboys discredit and slander more."

Everyday on the internet, I see people doing the same pessi/penaldo slop over and over again whenever one of them has a poor performance. Also, I hate the revisionism. A lot of football fans forget how good prime messi and ronaldo were.

It's really sad to see football fans constantly try to discredit these legends.
