Banned for selling £2 Sandals

It seems the issue of ban-happy Vinted is finding some exposure in the mainstream.

I wonder if this will make any material difference to their poor practices? Probably not.

Wanted to fake-away Five Guys

Finely chopped white onion and mushrooms fried together with a little bit of beef stock; mature cheese singles, couple of slices of pickles, ketchup, mayo on a brioche cob, aberdeen angus beef burger.

Wrapping in foil is the important bit. Lets the bread go a bit soggy and soft.

Best Chinese eat-in restaurant?

I really fancy going to Little Yang Sing this evening but the reviews online are so so. I've had take away from there in the past and always been blown away with how nice it was.

For context, I'm from the West Midlands and I'm staying at my Inlaws'in Didsbury. The Chinese restaurants around here are so much better than I have back at home. Wok and Flame (Burton Road) never disappoints.

But yeah, we're leaving the kids with their grand parents this evening and really fancy a great sit in Chinese meal.

Any recommendations?

Allopurinol Brand

Hi all;

I've suffered with gout since I was 19 (now 36) and have taken allopurinol at varying doses since around 20.

Typically good results. Currently prescribed 500mg per day (300 am, 200pm) dispensed in 100mg tablets.

I've had many different brands given to me by various chemists in the past and sometimes noticed subtle differences in how I felt with some and others.

My last prescription was by a brand called Flamingo and they were fine (7 boxes of 28, individually packed tablets in blister strips).

Latest prescription were dispensed to me in 2 x 100 tablet pots (loose tablets) by a brand called RelonChem. Never had these before. Never seen them dispensed like this either.

My question is, has anyone else noticed any difference in flare ups depending on the brand of allopurinol they're having?

I've had it in the past and just put it down to my diet but this time my diet hasn't changed (I've been on a fairly strict diet for 3 years as I've focused on weight loss) so I know my purine intake isn't enough to really give issue whilst taking 500mg.

However, I've noticed since taking this latest brand, my hips and knees in the AM are stiff and sore very similar to having a gout flare up. I had it in one knee for a few years and after MRI scans to find the problem, I suggested it might be gout and requested a higher dose of allopurinol along with a course of colchicine which cleared it so I'm prone to getting it in my knees.

I'm at a point now of going to my GP and asking for another prescription and a different brand but being the NHS it might get refused.

Also have Naproxen 500mg to take but I try and avoid that if possible. Also have Tramadol for pain relief but I can't stand how I feel on it so I try not to take it. CoCodamol 30/500 are the only pain killers I have that are really affective when it's bad but again, makes me feel terrible.

Any ideas if it is purely down to brand?

New BBQ, Egg Style

Hi All;

My OH managed to get a new egg style BBQ. The box was really damaged so we didn't know if it would be cracked or anything but luckily it's fine. £15.

However, it's a new type of BBQ to me (I'm more often using an offset smoker or kettle).

It's quite small so I'm wondering if anyone has a similar one and could offer any advice?

I know not to start fuel with a chimney starter with these due to heat shock.

Cheers

When did you have your first pint of Guinness?

Was up my local this afternoon for some lunch and noticed a few drinking guinness. I don't drink it in the warmer months but as the temps drop it's my usual call.

I thought, it's seen a really big increase in popularity over the last few years and wondered how many people have tried it because of the splitting the G fad or if people had tried it well before and have always enjoyed it.

I was 14 when I had my first pint of it (now 36) and I can still remember my first thought was it tasted something like coffee.

When did you first try guinness, or stout.

Moroccan style couscous 'side salad'

Had this from M&S but its pricey.

So me and and the Mrs decided to try and make it ourselves.

Make up the small and giant couscous until fluffy. About 50g of each (dry). Once cooked, stir in dried raisins, cranberries and chopped apricots (about 1/4 the mass to taste)

In a pan, fry a roasted red onion (roasted mine on a cast iron pan on the bbq) roughly chopped, along with half a can of rinsed chickpeas, table spoon of turmeric, two table spoons pulped ginger, two of pulped garlic and one of pulped onion. Hand full of chopped fresh coriander. Salt, black pepper.

Add 3/4 a bottle of honey mustard dressing (we used morrisons)

Grate the zest of an orange, about 1/3rd into the pan

Add some water to make a shallow sauce and reduce.

Once reduced to a thick sauce, stir in the couscous and fruit.

Leave to cool and serve as a side salad.

Yesterday's 9hr. Brisket

Cooked for 9 hours on a cheap offset using oak; wrapped at 60deg internal to prevent it drying out. Brisket was from Costco so if you've had it from there they don't come with masses of fat on them. Rubbed the night before with yellow mustard, coated with salt, pepper, granulated garlic, dried onion and a sparing amount of paprika.

I could have pushed it a little longer to get closer to it crumbling apart but with such low fat content I prefer to hold it back and stop it from possibly drying out.

Great on the Japanese milk rolls from M&S, home made BBQ sauce (more vinegar, less sugar), pickles and mustard.
