Would you recommend Blakeman for Governor?

I am a rochester resident who’s fed up with Kathy Hochul. She’s given us high taxes, bad roads, lax immigration enforcement, and NY is becoming harder to afford than even parts of CA now. But there are some good things about NY, like our consumer protection laws, education, etc. I’m concerned that Blakeman would mess our state up like Scott Walker did to WI or Chris Christie did to NJ. Is that what we’re in for if he becomes governor? What do yall in Nassau County think of him?

How rampant and skilled are pickpockets at Darien Lake?

My friend travels regularly to Europe for business (she does sales) which is notorious for pickpockets. She’s very hyper aware of her surroundings, knows all the tricks the pickpocketers pull there etc. When she was here last year she had someone steal her wallet even though her purse was allegedly out of site as she always does in Europe and she’s never had anything taken. The security footage confirmed it, they eventually got the guy and she actually got her purse back but she had to cancel all her cards, buy a new drivers license etc. Are pickpockets really that big of a problem at DL? I’ve never heard of this.

Why I think Hong lost the WI governor's race, and what Dems should learn from it

In case you weren't aware, it appears that Milwaukee Co Exec David Crowley has now won the Democratic primary. This was a big blow to progressives especially after Abdul El-Sayed won in MI and they were feeling very good about Hong's chances. That being said, here is why I think she lost - please keep in mind I'm not endorsing either candidate in saying what I say:

  1. She wasn't a very good candidate. In 2026 this is a big prerequisite especially in a swing state like WI. I posted about her in a WI subreddit and the consensus was "I like her but she's not a very strong candidate." El-Sayed, Mamdani, Rabb etc. all had solid charisma and confidence. That is absolutely needed to win a primary. They projected a winner's mentality, she didn't.

  2. Endorsements. Hong got just 2 labor unions to endorse her, Crowley had 7 and they were almost all blue collar. Union trades are the backbone of WI, especially in the rural parts of the state. On top of that, Bernie and AOC notably sat this one out, and I think that spoke volumes. The progressives she did get endorsements from - i.e.: Ilhan Omar - are extremely, extremely unpopular. Anytime anyone brings Omar up it's almost always negative where I'm from. People are indifferent to her at best.

  3. As governor you have to actively do things. It's not like the senate where we send someone there and they just take votes, drop bills, give speeches etc. When there's a snowstorm it's your job the make sure the roads get plowed and people are safe. You have to help repair infrastructure and bring cost of living down. I think Hong dialed way too much into ideology and not enough into what she would practically do. Crowley on the other had seemed to have more actionable items. Zohran Mamdani won in NYC by positioning himself as a doer.

If your girlfriend wants to go clubbing or do single activities while you’re together, she’s just not that into you

I’m gonna get some hate for this but i think it needs to be said.

Everything a woman does in a relationship comes down to interest level. What she decides to do vs. doesn’t decide to do, how she treats you etc. is directly related to how much she likes you. How much she’s willing to put the relationship at risk is directly related to how much she likes you. And she knows what things risk a relationship. clubbing, those girls trips to Miami… who’s she spending a lot of time around in those settings? More often than not, single guys looking to crack. And it’s not like it’s only 1 or 2 guys there who want that, it’s like 98% of the male population there. Now I’ve heard the old adage “well she can say no,” but when you’re around a bunch of single guys and 20+ are asking to buy you a drink… chances are there’s gonna be a guy she says yes to. And it’s not her fault that she says yes, she’s put herself in an environment where that would happen. Clubs and parties are where people going when they are looking for someone new, whether they’re in or out of a relationship.

So if your girlfriend clubs, goes on these party trips etc…. ESPECIALLY if there’s other guys she’s going with, she’s not that into you. Even if she hasn’t actually cheated yet (which is likely to happen), she’s putting herself out there for an upgrade and waiting for the right guy to come along. So if she wants to go clubbing repeatedly or partying or go on girls trips to Miami, your best bet is to probably just cut her loose. She doesn’t view the relationship as serious or something she wants to grow over a long period of time and she is going to these places waiting for Mr. Perfect to come up and talk to her.

Now, invariably I’m going to get the comments of “well you’re being controlling” or “well what else is she supposed to do?” Here’s what I’d say to each

(1. No, I’m not. In a relationship, either party can call it quits at anytime. I’ve seen multiple women leave men they’ve been with for years because for whatever reason they just got the ick from him. It’s not controlling to draw a line in the sand and say “if you do x, I’m gone”. You have that conversation on day 1 and if she doesn’t like it, you guys aren’t a good match. It’s that simple.

(2. I’ve met plenty of women who don’t feel the need to club. They have tons of other hobbies that don’t involve putting on dental floss and dancing around in a room full of horny 20 somethings. On top of that, I’ve know women who were big partiers, went to the club every Saturday with her girlfriends etc. and when they got in relationships with dudes they were actually into, all of that stopped cold. No more clubs, no more drinking, no more hanging out with random men. So it does happen. If you’re not getting that treatment then she just has low interest and it’s time to move on, why stay with somebody who’s lukewarm about you?

Fauci hearing proves GOP has no seriousness about defeating corruption

I saw several clips of Dr. Fauci invoking the 5th in yesterday's senate hearing on social media, as did many of you. I was ticked beyond belief, this man is so morally bankrupt and has abused his position so greatly and now he is getting off scot free. Well, that's what I thought at first.

Turns out, they kicked his attorney out during the hearing. Well why would you do that? Now he is going to plead the fifth OF COURSE!

I feel like there is a lack of seriousness in the Trump admin and GOP about actually rooting out corruption. They make a ton of noise about how crooked the Clintons are in 2016, well now Trump has been in office for 6 years and yet we have made barely any headway on an investigation of their dealings. If Trump told Kash Patel to delve into the Clinton files and this dealings of the Clinton Foundation today, he could absolutely get some answers in a quick hurry. Hasn't done it. If he and the GOP wanted to actually move on prosecuting and investigating Fauci, they could do it. Instead they showboat in a soap opera congressional hearing where they kick out his attorney. I think it begs the question if they ever actually plan on holding anybody accountable. Not for nothing, but in 2008 Trump did say Hillary Clinton would be a great negotiator in Iran...

I get randomly backed up, sometimes trapped gas, very little stool comes out despite feeling a lot in there, lack of appetite, doc says try miralax or metamucil daily

I get randomly backed up a lot, I still go every day but sometimes I have to strain a lot to get even pebbles out and I feel a lot of times like more is still in there. I get trapped gas and bloating at times too, my stomach can get very distended, tender etc. I talked to my doc about it, she said to try upping my fiber with miralax or metamucil daily (advice I paid close to $300 for most likely, bill has not come). I will sometimes have either no appetite or mixed hunger and satiety too. Sometimes it's after eating rich food but can really be after anything. I'm considering getting tested for a cow's milk/dairy allergy that could underly it all. I have had these symptoms for months.

Thinking of doing a low fiber diet for a week or so, things like plain scrambled eggs, boiled chicken/turkey, soup, maybe some cooked carrots, applesauce etc. Or even just clear liquids 1-2 days to get traffic going again and then slowly move to soft solids. Then in a week start to bulk it back up.

Thoughts?
