I’m Kenyan and growing up I listened to Congolese music a lot. Now that I’m older I’ve started to see that the francophone African immigrants in France are becoming very influential in music over there. The music they’re making sounds like a straight up mix of Malian,Ivorian and Congolese music with no French influence other than the language. I’m wondering if this is actually what’s happening or is it only a small percentage of people that I’m noticing or is French music still the same it was without any African influence.

Enslaved Africans came from many different regions and ethnic groups, but despite being separated from their homelands and subjected to forced assimilation, certain African musical traditions seem to have survived and influenced the music that developed in the Americas.How much of what we hear in African-American, Caribbean, and other forms of diasporic music today can be connected to pre-colonial African musical traditions? And which aspects were preserved relatively directly versus being transformed through interaction with European and Indigenous musical traditions?

The latest episode of pretty basic just dropped and in it they talk about thoughts they’ve had about the podcast and it possibly coming to an end in a year (when they’re contract ends) but they aren’t really sure yet. I don’t know why I have a feeling the pod will end when the contract is up. What do yall think?

Something I’ve noticed about most Caribbean islands with a big indo-Caribbean population is that they have strong ties to their Indian culture and still wear traditional Indian clothing, jewellery and participate in the traditional celebrations. I’ve noticed the same thing with the Chinese Caribbeans too but noticed that Afro Caribbeans aren’t as in tune with their African heritage. Is there a reason for this asking as an African.

I’ve noticed a pretty hypocritical stance on who is and isn’t black and what is classified as black by some if not by most black/african Americans. Most black/african Americans claim that Africans are not black, when the literal definition of black is someone of African descent. Just like to be white you have to be of European descent.

Some black/african Americans go an extra mile to deny any African heritage and fight to claim Native American heritage (which most do have but maximum of 8%) when some native tribes owned slaves, but that doesn’t seem to be an important factor as long as they have something else in their dna, that they can hold onto too deny that 80+% African heritage.

Some even go as far as to claim anyone who has dark skin as black while again saying that Africans are not black. I recently saw a video of a Fijian man, expressing how frustrating it is that black/african Americans claim them and label them as black and as an extension of them. Yes black people and fijians share phenotypes but again to be black, you have to be of African descent.

Now this brings me to the recent announcement of the new black panther that will be played by David Jonson who is a black British actor. Now this casting has caused some uproar inside and outside the marvel community because a lot of black/african Americans are mad that Ryan coogler a black/african American director chose someone who’s not a fellow African/black American. My thing is I’m shocked that their mad that a black British man is portraying an African. The whole show is about Africa and its tribes but now, it’s all of a sudden a problem that a black/african American won’t play the new black panther and many don’t want to now go and watch it because of it

This reminds me of the druski skit where he portrayed black brits that do a great job of portraying black/african Americans in shows/movies. that skit brought up a discussion among black/african Americans on why is it that black brits get black/african American roles when they are not black/ African American themselves. With this I have to point out the hypocrisy and double standards. Black/african Americans have played fictional and non fictional African roles throughout history but that somehow seems to be okay in their eyes. But god forbid a black Brit play a fictional African character or a fictional black/african American character

Why is it that some black/ African Americans do this? I know it’s not all but to the ones that can explain this phenomenon please do

And I’m not talking about white people at all in this context. I’m talking about the Asians,middle Easterns and Latin Americans. All these groups have an invisible alliance to each other and white people. They’ve never had our best interests at heart and have never gone through lengths to support our cause but yet we shed more tears for their tragedies (Palestine genocide) than we do our own people (Congo genocide).

I just tried to reorder the muji cleansing oil only to see that it’s out of stock everywhere and that it’s being reformulated. Are there good alternatives for it? I love the way it’s watery and glides through the skin while taking everything off.

I’m a girl so I watch the show because of the girls. One thing I’ve noticed throughout my years as a love island watcher, is how boring the women always are. This season we have people like Robyn and Yasmine and Ellie who have a personality, but the others (including the bombshell) have nothing. I’m not expecting these girls to jump from wall to wall but when a guy asks you a question about yourself, don’t be so nonchalant and give one word answers. It’s especially annoying when in their introductions they’ll describe themselves as really energetic,bubbly/extroverted. All for them to be talking like Kim k for the next 6+ weeks. If I was a guy on this show I would just give up cause these girls are absolutely beautiful but have nothing else to offer.

Anyone notice how she only ever hangs around black girls and guys. And then later starts imitating them. She falls off with them and goes on to find new black victims for more souls. Cause I swear the moment she stop having out with black people I think her black cosplay will stop.

People being parasocial towards celebrities is nothing new but in the past 4 years I feel as though it’s reached new heights. People are trying to cancel celebrities for everything and try and hold them to standards they themselves don’t hold themselves.

A lot of people keep saying that Michael Jackson looked his best when he was in his thriller and bad era. This was when he had had one (or multiple) nose jobs done. He was very vocal about him being insecure about his ethnic nose and seeing how people only point out his bad and thriller era as “him looking the best” is honestly so sad to see. A wide nose (most of the time is an African feature) and when people say he looked better when he got rid of his wide nose to me sounds anti black. As I think he honestly looked his best pre anything.

Why are young white people so invested and interested in black culture more than any other culture. The white kids nowadays and the ones before seem to go through this phase where they imitate black culture to an extreme. From the way black people talk, their mannerism and style. Also wanting to especially date black men and imitating black women when doing so. But as they get older in their 30s they abandon that act and go back to being white and conservative. Why is that?
