Antecedent Pitch

Something's Wrong on the New Frontier

**Combat**: Medium

**Roleplay**: High

**Travel**: Low

**Starting Level**: 1

**Summary of campaign style**: Western, Mystery, Factions

**Region Info/Pitch**: In the year 1492 DR, Elturel sunk into Avernus and with no sign of its return, the kingdom of Elturgard was left in shambles. Spurred on by a land now ripe for the taking, the newly formed Vale Alliance and the mercantile nation of Amn scrambled to claim whatever land they could, both from the shattered Elturgard and from each other. This conflict would become known as the The War of Coin and Crown.

A decade later, the war has ended, borders are redrawn and the kingdom of Elturgard is relegated to the historical record. Flush with new land and resources, the mercantile houses of Amn begin carving up the new territory among themselves, assigning Amnian governors to settlements that have been annexed and integrating them into wider Amnian society.

One of these settlements is Greenest, the largest town along a major trade route in the area. Greenest's new prosperity promises a fresh start for anyone looking to start anew, so long as you're willing to seize the opportunity.

**Player Buy-in:** I wanted to emulate the classic western feel of a town on the new frontier in desperate need of a hero; think Tombstone or Rango. This campaign is about uncovering the mysteries of the frontier and dealing with the aftermath of war on a community. I'm picturing levels 1-5 centering around Greenest, with the world getting bigger as you make a name for yourselves. Characters who have somewhere specific to be in a hurry may not work for this game.

**General Character Creation Rules:**

When y'all are crafting your characters and making their backstories, keep these things in mind:

**Session 0:** We will definitely be having 1 or 2 session zeros to chat about character creation and allow people to form existing bonds between pcs if they would like. I'll also answer any outstanding questions about specific campaign/setting/character elements.

**Motive and Drive:** One thing to be aware of is that this game require that characters have some sort of ambition and desire. This is about where your character has come from and why they ended up in Greenest. The exact nature is up to you, but if the character would rather stay home, or if they've got somewhere else they'd really like to be off to right this second, then there’s not much of an adventure to be had.

**Adventuring parties:** When creating your character, think about why they're on their adventure/journey and why they would be possibly looking for folks to adventure with.

**Be who you wanna be (not what's best):** When building your character it is okay if the choices you are making aren’t the most “optimal” or “best” choices. It's your character, you decide what they do.

Feeling conflicted on what setting to use

The main story outline is a major weapons manufacturer exploiting an isolated community being used as a testing ground. I want the isolated place to be a land forgotten by the wider world after a war, that also has a connection to an ancient civilization.

So Ebberon gives me the recent war and the corporation, though im worried about scale creep if they end up trying to take down the whole of House Cannith

Faerun gives me the tech level im looking for and the ancient civilization, I was thinking a secret alliance of dragons and giants that isolated themself away from the rest of their kind to live in peace, but were then destroyed by the king-killer comet

What do you guys think? Anything I can clarify further?
