Seriously. People are acting like we are going to war, Ao3 versus Wattpad refugees.

Yes, there’s been an influx of new readers and authors on Ao3 and this sub. Yes, a lot of them don’t know the rules, etiquette, etc… They will learn, like everyone who finds Ao3 for the first time does.

Ao3 is all about no censorship and inclusivity. Stop acting like the Wattpad people are going to “steal” our community, cause that’s not happening. And worse still, stop acting like they are going to somehow destroy Ao3. We got scam and hate bots for that already.

It really isn’t that big a deal. New readers, new writers, and most of them will mesh perfectly well with Ao3. And if some of them turn out to be haters, it’s not like that’s anything new on Ao3. Just block and report like always.

Just chill people.

Despite having vast personal experience (kidding, kinda, not really), I’m really struggling with putting it to paper.

I want it to be an internal monologue of sorts as the character slowly descends into self-pity and denial, but everything I write is coming out either garbage, or cringe af. So, I would appreciate any tips you have!

What the title says. I’m looking for time travel fics set during the Clone Wars. Can be Jedis, clones, someone else, doesn’t really matter. Romance is a bonus, but not necessary.

Don’t even know how to title this properly, I’m just annoyed af at the moment.

Recently I published a new chapter of one of my fics. The chapter contained some non-con scenes (nothing descriptive, because I can’t bring myself to write rape, but it was pretty damn heavily implied). The fic was properly tagged, and I put an author’s note at the beginning of the chapter letting readers know that there would be such scenes in this chapter. It was important for the story because it contained some dialogue and implications during the scenes. In other words, I wasn’t writing it for shits and giggles.

Thing is, the character forcing themselves on another is canonically considered one of the “good guys”. And even in my story they are also on the good side, even tho they aren’t a good person themselves. It’s just how it is in this fandom. The original source is dark, my fic is dark, and it has a medieval setting where lots of unsavory things are considered just the “right of the victor”. Obviously I don’t agree with them, but the story contains those elements.

And I got completely flamed by readers in the comments about how I “support sexual assault” and that “only derogatory term who like that stuff would write it” (I’m quoting a commenter here).

I fucking don’t. And the lack of awareness of some readers who think that an author, especially a fiction author, automatically supports and does everything they write just pisses me of. Were it that way, we couldn’t have any sort of conflict in any story ever.

Somehow, what pisses me off even more is that if the character had been one of the canon bad guys, no one would have bat an eye. But because I was putting one of the fandom darlings in a slightly less stellar light than usual, I got accused of all kinds of shit.

Honestly, I’m this close to say fuck this and abandoning that fic, but I also feel those readers might take that as confirmation of what they are saying. The whole thing pisses me off.

Edit: okay since apparently it bothers people so much I went and spelled rape correctly. I censored it initially cause there are some subs who take down posts with the word rape in it and I didn’t know if it would happen here. You can stop pointing it out now.

For me it was to cut down on OCs because it made my dialogues forced. Damn it hurt my pride to receive those comments, because it said in no uncertain terms that they liked my story, but felt like I was ruining it by trying too hard to always include my OCs.

Worse (or better depending on how you see it) of all, they were right. Once I focused more on just a couple of my characters instead of always trying to include everyone, and made sure to keep the canon characters relevant, it did make my fic a lot better. Now it’s something I keep in mind for everything I write.

Just to be clear, that particular critique helped me in the long term, even if it pissed me off to hear it at the time. But that doesn’t mean that what worked for me works for everyone, or even in every situation. And just because that one comment was helpful, doesn’t mean I changed my whole writing style, or that I religiously follow every critique I get. But it did help.

So, if you feel comfortable, share what comment/critique/suggestion/etc that hurt to hear at the time, but helped improve your writing!

I love PJO, and I love crossovers. But it really bugs me when demigods are super nerfed to fit into whatever other universe is in the crossover, and also when they are treated like little kids and just go along with it.

Yes, I know they are traumatized and have PTSD. But I’ve read enough hurt and comfort fics. Now I’m looking for ones where they are badass all the way. Veterans who went through hell and came out the other end. They don’t need to absurdly overpower the other half of the crossover, but I want them to be at least equal.

Not trying to diss or complain or anything. Honestly I’m just curious.

I like following WIP fics, and I always try to leave comments, even if it’s just a simple thank you. So I also end up reading lots of other comments, and something I often see it’s people that comment what are just a summary of the chapter. Like, there’s no thank you, no question, no complaint, no nothing. It’s literally just a narration of what happened in the chapter. Even happened to me with one specific reader in one of my stories, and I never know how to respond, or even if I should, because there’s like nothing to address.

Anyway, I was just wondering why someone might like to comment this way.

I just finished rewatching some of my favorite Supernatural episodes, and it left me wondering if anyone ever wrote a fic about hunters and other people in the know reacting to the news of Dean’s death after the final episode of the series.

Not changing the end or anything. I know there’s some discussions online over the ending, but I personally always liked it. Dean was a hunter, died as a hunter, the end. But it also leaves me wondering about other hunters hearing about it and being like “Dean? The guy that died like 2 dozen times and always came back, killed all kinds of overpowered beings and defeated god, and he died because of a piece of rebar?”

If there was a fic about some sort of hunters wake for him it would be even better, but I’m aware that my original request is probably already a bit of a long shot.

So basically not Annabeth, Thalia, Zoe, Reyna, Artemis, Nico, Jason, or Apollo. I have nothing against any of them being paired with Percy, but I’ve read a ton of those fics, and now I’m looking for less common pairings. Actually I was looking for a Percy/Katie fic at first that I saw a long time ago that had like 4 chapters and was cute fluff, but I couldn’t find it again.

So, please give me recs of rare pairings for Percy! Katie, Piper (not exactly uncommon but she’s usually part of a throuple with Annabeth), Silena, Rachel Clarisse, Gwen, Hazel, OCs, nature spirits, mortals, whatever. I know some of them can look like they are common considering they are pretty significant canon characters, but I can’t really find many fics where they are shipped with Percy, so that’s that.

So, I’m looking for two different things this time, but since I don’t think I’ll find them in a singular fic, I just sorta split them into two requests, and a fit that fits any of them is welcome, thanks.

1- Good long fics, like 100k words or more. Preferably little to no romance. Yes, I know I can just sort them like that in Ao3, but just because a fic is long doesn’t mean it’s good. So I’m leaving it to the people to give me recs.

2- Any fic where the hunters are more organized instead of a scattered bunch like in the series. I want them to have some sort of central control, could even be an AU where the Men’s of Letters continued to exist instead of getting wiped out by Abbasid for example. Or maybe they are part of a government branch specifically to deal with monsters, or whatever. I just want them to be a proper organization. Any fics that fit that requirement are welcome.

Like I said, I don’t think there will be many, if any, fics that contain those two requests of mine, so as long as it fits one of them, I thank you for the recs.

I have a story with about 300 collections and 40k views on WebNovel, and yet I usually get only two comments per chapter, always from the same two readers (shout out to you guys, you are amazing!).

It left me wondering just how real the stats are. Like, at first I thought collections meant people who add your story to their library, but then 300 people liked my story well enough to add it, but 298 of them didn’t comment even once? I know most é people are silent readers, but it still feels like a very unbalanced split.

As for views, I imagine every time someone opens a chapter it counts as a view? Even if it’s the same IP multiple times? It’s the only way I can explain that many views in a story with only 24 chapters.

If anyone knows about this and can explain how it works to me, I would appreciate it!

I just made the grave mistake of reading Falling For You alternate ending, and while it is pretty well written like the rest of the fic, I wasn’t ready for all the Hurt no Confort and angst (yes, my fault I know, the warning was right there). Please give me Recs of some good fluff fics with happy endings and as little angst as possible. Bonus kudos if it’s focused on Percy being camp’s big brother and has lots of interactions of him and the kids.

For context, I’ve been reading fanfics for over a decade, and even dabbled in writing, but I’ve never read Pokémon fics before. Honestly, I kinda forgot the franchise existed until I found some old Pokémon cards, which led me to rewatch the og pokemon series for the first time in like 15 years.

So, consider me a complete newbie to the fandom! Please give me recommendations of your favorite fics, the famous ones in the fandom, must reads, and all that! I appreciate if it has some manner of romance (not pokephilia tho, no shade to the people who like it, buts it’s just not for me), but it’s not a deal breaker.

First of all, this is a pet peeve post, in other words, something that bothers me personally in fics. If it doesn’t bother you, than that’s alright, everyone has different preferences.

Now, maybe it’s my fault for mainly lurking on the HP and PJO fandoms. But damn do I hate opening a new fic that seems promising and that has a different main ship than canon, only for it to be something like “Ginny was only with Harry because of his money and cheated the second they married” or “Annabeth cheated on Percy with a minor god for no reason in particular”. It’s always either that or one of them dies a tragic death and leaves the mc traumatized to the point they can’t love ever again.

It just feels so forced to me in fics, because authors want to write a different pairing than canon (all the power to you) but don’t know how to split the canon pairing, so they default to killing someone or making one of the people in the relationship (usually the girl) a massive cheater and/or liar.

My dudes, dudettes and non-binary friends, news flash: people break up all the fucking time without someone having to either die or cheat. Especially when they are young. It doesn’t always need to be so extreme. They can just fall out of love, or have different objectives in life that aren’t so aligned anymore, or a million other reasons.

I’m not saying all break ups are simple and everyone is friends forever after it, because that’s definitely not the case. I know I don’t speak to most of my exes, we just went out separates ways and that’s was that. One part of the past ship cheating or dying is definitely a valid plot hook. But again, you don’t need to make it so damn extreme, basically transforming a character into a wh*re or giving them a horrific death.

It just grates me how much it happens, that’s all. People can break up and that’s that.

I’ve been playing a little over two months, finally got all dragons. Not all bonded or anything, but considering I have that one deco from an event that let me lay an egg for free, I’ll get there even, don’t even have to rely on luck. So, for longtime players, preferably those who have been playing since launch, how often do new dragons sets come around? Because I remember checking through the sets when I first started playing, and what we have now is what we had then (minus event dragons ofc).
