My 5 cents regarding rocketry on the ranch

I've been an amateur rocketeer for 20 years. I have made and flown low-, mid- and high-power rockets, some to altitudes above 20.000 feet.

I have watched the show with interest. But as many of you already know, the rocket-obsession they have is just so out of touch by now..

The latest episodes in the current season is a perfect example of that. I don't know why exactly they choose to go with the company LOC-presion.

But let me tell me you – LOC-precision do not make excellent rockets. Many of the models they make are "all right" I guess, but none of them are fantastic. Most of them are in fact made of very thin cardboard, plywood-fins etc. Which is less than great if you want completely stabile flight-characteristics for scientific data-collection. Cardboard and plywood woobles and will throw any rocket off course.

I have flown hundreds of these types rockets. And no two launches are the same. In essence the flight-characteristics that the team attributes to the "bubble" is just low- to mid-power rockets behaving like any other rocket built with those specs. (IE: materials, types of motors and reacting to wind, humidity and what have you)

Other than that:

The many instances of parachutes not unfurling is common. Again it is not paranormal – it is because the parachutes were not packed correctly. (Again a common error, it is actually quite hard to do correctly)

The motors exploding. I don't personally believe that it was because it "hit" the bubble. Rocket-motors explode (CATO) all the time. Go to any rocket-convention and watch the launches. I guarantee you it will happen at least once. With the amounts of rockets the team have launched, it is no surprise that they get a couple of CATO’s.

LOC precision is a hobby-company. Their "experts" do not hold any special education in aerospace or engineering. They sell hobby-kits to amateurs. They even have a special "Skinwalker Ranch"-model rocket that costs almost 500$, which is just… A lot.

Anyway, I could go on. But this was just my five cents. I do not believe that the team will gather any good evidence with their current approach to rocketry.
