Looking for a Good Hike that makes sense for my constrains

I’m staying in Oakhurst for work this week and have an entire day to kill on Thursday. I plan to wake up around 5 am and drive into the park for an all day hike.

I’m well versed in hiking, but have never visited Yosemite before. After doing some research, As much as I’d like to do Mist/Panorama/4M…sounds like it would be much more enjoyable to do in the springtime. Not really what I want to put myself through in this heat. I was looking at Cathedral Lakes, but the trail head is on the other side of the park.

I don’t mind a few miles of exposed trail, but just seeing if there are any recommendations for a trail that is closer to 8 miles (10 miles Max) that has a chunk of trail under the trees? Preferably with a nice lake. Even better if it’s a loop trail. TIA

Edit: thinking of possibly doing the Mist Trail to Nevada Falls loop trail, but curious if there are other hikes to consider that compare

Can’t stop thinking about Banff

Even with the smoke, Banff exceeded my expectations. Luckily it was only Smokey 1 out of the 4 days I was there. Thought it would be something to scratch off my bucket list one and done, but I’m already thinking about planning another trip. What an incredible place full of beauty and wonder. Really glad I pushed myself to put my rental car to full use.

Day 1 - Drove the fields Parkway up to Athabasca Glacier. It paid to get up early. Barely any people at all the stops, but driving back the parking lots looked full and crowded

Day 2 - Agnes Tea House, Big Beehive & Devils Thumb at Lake Louise. Was again glad I started this early. No problem getting a parking spot at Lake Louise. 5th in line for the tea house when it was open so not a lot of people up there. Devils thumb was a hell of an experience. One of the most challenging hike I’ve personally done and it was incredibly rewarding. By the time I got back to Lake Louise and the Fairmont, it was a zoo. Completely different atmosphere. Drove to the ski lodge and took the shuttle to Moraine Lake. At first I scoffed at the price of the canoes for one hour, but I was pretty dead set on doing it so I paid up. Somehow had the entire lake to myself at 3pm. Great experience and well worth the cost. Finally got back to my hotel in Banff. By the time I hit the hot tub, showered, and ate, it was only 7:30pm and the sun was high on the sky and I felt weird being at my hotel with so much light, so I took a random drive to Emerald Lake for sunset which was not on my itinerary. Wow. Best decision. The lake colors with the mountains and sky. And that Drive! Driving by the town of Field was pretty neat

Day 3 - Johnston Canyon and Tunnel Mountain trail in the morning. Again, was nice to do these in the morning. Did Johnston canyon around 7:30am and there were only a handful of parking spots left. The trail to upper falls was fine, but the entire walk back there were a ton of people. Tunnel mountain was really busy at 10am. The hike kind of whooped my butt, main because I Didn’t realize what an incline that would be. Played a round of golf at Stewart Creek at 2pm and then drove to Kananaskis Mountain lodge to stay the night.

Day 4 - this was my free day with absolutely nothing planned. I ended up checking out the suspension bridge and doing half of the Upper Lake hike. Upper Lake ended up being one of my favorite parts of the trip and the drive around there with the mountains was incredible. Highly recommend.

Bottom sides are shriveling/wrinkling a few days after watering

I watered these using Saratoga spring water this past Sunday. They looked fine at that time. Last time watering before then was 2 weeks prior.

I noticed a few days later that the bottom sides are starting to shrivel and wrinkle. I’ve been keeping them on a window sill in indirect sunlight that gets a decent amount of light. I moved them to a window sill on a different wall that gets less sunlight. Located in Southern California. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. This is my first time. TIA.

Endless Sunshine Escape Credit

Booked a night at the JW Camelback in Scottsdale for work today. The property is typically way out of my budget, but I was surprised to see the room was heavily discounted to $265. I was still a little hesitant, but then I noticed it includes $100 resort credit and labeled as an Endless Sunshine Escape rate and shows up in my bonvoy account. Is this a thing I should look out for more often?

Is Wildfire smoke noticeable in the Banff area right now?

I’m visiting later this week and plan to do plenty of hiking. I know the wildfires are in different providences, but I saw someone mention them in another Banff thread. Curious how bad the wildfire smoke is right now, if at all? TIA

What’s with All the Construction?

I just got back from visiting Montreal/Quebec for the first time. Had a wonderful time and enjoyed all of the people and architecture and nature. It was an amazing trip.

Even with all the construction, Montréal was a such a beautiful city and I had a blast walking around and exploring…But I have to ask, what is with All of the construction? I felt like it was everywhere, on every block. How long has it been going on? Just curious. TIA

Edit: I figured I’d get answers saying “it’s been going on for a few years now.” Surprised to hear the comments. The construction definitely won’t keep me from returning in the future. Much love from California <3

Looking for notable spots and hikes to check out driving from Olympia to Lake Quinault

Got a free day for a work trip and staying at a hotel in Olympia that is 2 hours from the lake. I’m going to head out there around 5:30am and will have about 10 hours before I have to head out to SEA airport.

Any spots I should stop at along the way? And trails I should do at the lake or on the way? Planning to take the 101 route. TIA

Favorite Subway Scene

I’m looking for great movie scenes that specifically involves the timing of Subway Doors closing, whatever the context may be. But more broadly, what are some great Subway Scenes in general?
