What are regions for you guys that have stuck around every update so far?

For my dad and i, our Norwegian percentage changes between 1% and 2% with every update, but it has never completely disappeared. My mom and I both have 1% Finnish and that has never gone away either. The cool thing about that is that I’ve been able to find DNA matches on our match list who are 100% Finnish or at least 90% Finnish.

How did your family react to not receiving any native DNA in your or their results?

A long time ago, my grandmother and her sister used to tell me that we were Lumbee Indian. However, after my mom and I took DNA tests, neither of us had any Native American ancestry. Supposedly, it was my second great grandmother, Theresa, who was our Native ancestor, but in my honest opinion, I don’t think she looks Native American.
My mom and her brothers got on the topic of DNA tests, and she mentioned that she took one and didn’t have any Native American DNA. From what I can remember, one of them said something about the tests not being accurate and that they purposely don’t show Native American ancestry for some people, even though they actually do have it, which sounded really insane to me.
I don’t know why it’s hard for certain people in my family to accept the fact that we’re not Native. It’s actually kind of irritating 😭.

The photo first is a picture of my 2nd great grandma and the other two are my results and my moms

* I should probably mention this too, my 1st cousin 3x who is the daughter of my 2nd great grandmother’s sister, also tested with AncestryDNA and didn’t receive any native results either. I also have other relatives who descend from my 2nd great grandmother who didn’t receive any native, so I feel like that pretty much proves it especially since her own niece doesn’t have any either.

Am I? (21m)

What do you guys think? My hair still feels pretty thick, and I don’t have any thinning at my crown. My dad is 55 and still has a full head of hair, and both of my grandpas passed away with full heads of hair too. They both had hairlines that looked a lot like mine, so maybe it’s just something I inherited from them if this isn’t balding.

Would this be considered 4a or 4b?

I’ve always been pretty curious on this! The first two pictures are my hair when it’s wet, the second pictures is of it dry.

My results as an African American with roots in the south

63% African and 37% European. They were very spot on with the journeys

Why exactly would some African Americans have East Asian ancestry?

Just curious because I myself have about 1.1% and I’ve seen other African Americans with small traces of it as well.

Does having a “hairline” like this indicate that I’m balding?

1st picture was taken May 19th

2nd picture was taken May 4th

3rd picture was taken April 5th

I’m hoping this isn’t balding, but if it is, then I guess I’ll just have to accept it one day. To be completely honest, it doesn’t really look like much has changed, so I’m hoping it stays like this but I’m only 21, so only time will tell. My parents still have a full head of hair, and from what I’ve seen, both of my grandfathers passed away with hair. Their corners did look somewhat similar to mine, though, so maybe this is just something I inherited from one of them. My crown and the rest of my hair still feel pretty thick, so I’m assuming that’s a good sign.

The results of my grandaunt and granduncle

Both 51% European and 49% African with two African American identifying parents. From what I was told, my great grandpa had a white father and a black mother but unfortunately no one in our family including my great grandpa knew who his father was. My great grandma had two black parents but both seemed to be heavily mixed.

Last slide is a picture of their parents

A collage of all 8 of my great grandparents, including my results!

63% African and 37% European 😶

Top is my maternal side and bottom is my paternal side. It’s pretty cool how spot on they were with the journeys because I have ancestors from North Carolina, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Do you guys trust information found In obituaries?

I have my 2nd great grandmother’s obituary, and it seems to have some useful information. At the same time, I’m a bit worried that some of the information might not be accurate. For instance, it says she was born on February 11, 1885, in Patoka, Indiana, but on her death certificate it says she was born on February 10, I think, and for her birthplace it just says Indiana. I’m not exactly sure who provided the information for her obituary, but on her death certificate the informant was my 2nd great grandfather

Anyone else have a match like this?

Me and my dad matched this woman the other day but for some reason I share more cM with her than he does. They share 28cM across 2 segments unweighted cM being 45 and I share 40cM across 2 segments with her unweighted being 45. What causes this?

Accuracy on military draft cards

How accurate do you all find military draft cards? I found one for my 2nd great grandfather, and most of the information matches what I already know. The only thing I’m unsure about is his birthplace. The card says he was born in Samson County, Mississippi, but I haven’t found any other records that confirms that. I also asked my great grandpa’s brother, and he said he wasn’t exactly sure where he was born either.

58% African and 42% European. Both of my grandparents were born in Detroit Michigan but their parents have roots tracing back to the south.
