How did you make music for your game?

How did you make music for your game?

Every indie dev here faces the same challenge - we have to wear so many hats at the same time: programmer hat, artist hat, designer hat, marketing hat, and many more. My wife and I were lucky that we had most of these hats covered between the two of us. We gladly offloaded the marketing to our publisher, but there was still one other hat that didn’t quite fit.

Music was never my strong suit. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m tone-deaf. I wouldn’t dream of actually composing music, but I found a decent shortcut. I took some of my favorite classical pieces (the great Antonín Dvořák, a Czech composer from the 19th century) and gave them a slight twist to fit our medieval-ish game about feeding a dragon. And it worked! Players seemed to enjoy the soundtrack.

However, as development moved along and we realized just how much people actually enjoyed the game, we came to the conclusion that it deserved better than my shortcut. Around the same time, I got in touch with an Aussie composer named Dragos. I’m not going to lie - even his name seemed too fitting. We chatted for a while and decided to give it a go.

And oh man. I’m so glad we did. He delivered.

Feed the Scorchpot will have a completely new soundtrack at launch that captures the atmosphere of the game perfectly. Cheeky strings to underline the dragons’ fickle nature. A lovely, dreamy harp to start the game off. Tension building up during the midgame. And Latin lyrics when things get serious.

I just wanted to share my excitement here :) The game is launching in four days, wish us luck!

Dragon actually did meet Balatro!

Yeah, I know you’ve been seeing ads for my game over the last couple of days: Catan meets Balatro.

It’s not my favorite way to describe the game, but it’s simply the easiest way to explain it in the split second of attention we get from our audience. And honestly, the click-through rate is pretty decent.

But we actually managed to pull off something that absolutely blew my mind.

We managed to reach out to Playstack and sent them a few keys to try the game. They really liked it and offered us a Balatro x Feed the Scorchpot bundle on Steam to support our launch.

I’m just a guy who decided to make a game about feeding a dragon last year, and now we have a bundle with the game that inspired me in the first place. It feels absolutely surreal.

Check the game out on Steam. We’re launching in four days: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3966510/Feed_the_Scorchpot/

A Dragon on the Horizon

I've been working on my dragon-feeding game for over a year now. What a year it's been! Since January, a lot of players have tried the demo, and some have sunk an obscene number of hours into it. I can't wait to show off the whole thing... which brings me to the release date!

Feed the Scorchpot will officially launch on Steam on August 20th. Less than two months away!

If you like roguelites focused on replayability, intricate strategies, and overpowered combos, check it out on Steam!

Steam Next Fest is upon us! To help bring more eyes to our dragon-feeding roguelite, Feed the Scorchpot, we've set up a little contest for demo players.

It's simple: win a run in the demo and share a screenshot of your end screen on Discord or Steam. We'll pick ten entries at random and give away ten launch keys. More details can be found in the latest update on our Steam page.

If you like dragons, board games, and numbers going through the roof, check out our game on Steam. Link in the comments.

9 Trillion Calories

We're making a board game-inspired roguelike where you cook meals for a dragon. All the rules fit on an index card basically: roll dice, harvest ingredients off a hex board, cook, feed. But the multipliers stack with each other and I was pushing a certain arrangement of my buildings and ended up with this in the late game.

The pot's at 8.74 trillion calories and he's still not satisfied. Did the math and the amount I'm short by is roughly what 370,000 people eat in a year. I’m going to need more peasants…

Game's called Feed the Scorchpot, free demo on Steam if anyone wants to try it out.

Feed the Scorchpot

Hello everyone!

I've been holding off on posting here because I don't want to spam about my game all the time. But I'd like to share what's new.

The last time I posted, we had just launched our Kickstarter campaign. Even though it started off great, we eventually had to cancel it because we messed up the physical rewards, and the costs would have eaten up all the funds we raised. We decided to cancel the campaign early rather than overpromise and be unable to deliver on our commitments to our backers.

So we went back to the drawing board, and last week we launched a new campaign, with all the numbers sorted out, more reasonable pledge tiers, and a shorter duration. Once again, we managed to reach our funding goal in less than a day, which is amazing.

We are close to finish line - just 20 hours left. I'm very excited about the result. And about the new soundtrack, that will be possible with the funds raised.

If a board game-inspired roguelite about feeding a hungry dragon sounds like something you'd enjoy, take a look at the Kickstarter page and consider supporting us in exchange for a Steam key at release and other special goodies.

We're also offering a designer pledge tiers, which allows you to come up with a game piece or mechanic that could be added to the game. Though the dragon reserves the right of approval. :)

I haven't done much social posting about it this time, but there are still a few days left to reach the stretch goal of adding voice acting to the game.
