10/5 Breast Cancer Awareness show

Pretty good show today. Most games were pretty easily setup. Good to see a male get picked for a breast cancer show..Shows awareness that both genders can get it...

Too bad for the double over

Checkout experience today at Hazel Dell Store

When checking out today at the Winco in Hazel Dell WA, I had a rather unpleasant experience wth the cashier.

I had about 20 items, The person in front of me was done and almost done bagging their stuff. This was in the 'near lane'. I had my re-use bags open and in my cart. She started to put my items in the far lane and I asked if i could just grab them after she scanned them...and put them in my bags.

The answer was I have to go to the far lane and bag my items there because it slows down the overall line (only 1 person behind me). She said she didn't want to 'race me'.. She further told me that doing it the way I wanted should just jam up the line....

I generally do this process..95% of the time no issues. By the time the cashier has scanned the last item, I have all my items in my bags..Just need to pay and I am done...No delay in the overall line.

The cashier was really rude about it..and yeah..I was rude back..But if I can be done bagging by the time she is done scanning....why the push back from the cashier...

Rant over

Looking for some advice

I stripped, sanded, stained and applied 5 coats of polyurethane to a dining table. Stain and poly were both General Finishes water based. I did a light dry sand between coats of poly. I want to buff out the finish once the poly is cured (giving it about 4 weeks to be safe)

My plan is to sand with progressively finer grits until I get to 2000, then use auto buffing compound and auto polish.

My question is, is it better to dry sand or to wet sand?

Some numbers from my first 10 brew cycles

Being a nerdy accountant, I did some tracking of inputs vs outputs on my Moccamaster

I averaged about 783g of water input. The output average was 689g (88%) 'in the carafe' and about 73g (9.3%) in the grounds/filter with about 21g (2.7%) 'lost' in the brewer or lost from steam, etc.

How I measured:

Weighed the carafe empty plus the water and after the brew and found the difference of 689g

Weighed the dry filter and dry grounds and after the filter drained as much as possible and found the difference of 73g.

The rest was 'lost' left in the machine, condensation on lids, steam, etc

Hope you fellow nerds enjoy!

OXO burr grinder...cleaning out..

I noticed a lot of grinds on the counter every time I grind some beans...I pulled the bottom cover and discovered a bunch of grounds there..I was able to vac/brush/shake them out...Is it normal to have grounds accumulate there? How do they get there?

Here is another post showing the same issue. Their pics show basically the same thing I had

KBT brew basket..

I originally bought a KBGT but returned it for the KBT. I normally don't brew a full pot so the half pot hacks on the KBGT were more work than I wanted to put in first thing in the morning.

I like the KBT basket for two reasons

Flow control - able to switch from full open/half open/closed

Ability to rotate the basket during the brew..Since it's round on a round mount, I rotate it 90 degrees 4 or so times during the brew. This gives better saturation of all the grounds..

Thermal Carafe question

I just got a model KBT with the thermal carafe. I washed the carafe in warm water with dish soap, rinsed and ran a couple full cycles to clean out the machine internals....I noticed water leaking from what appears to be from the bottom of the carafe.

How does the water get in there? Is there a seal at the top and/or bottom of the carafe? I shook the carafe and could hear a 'water rattle'..which I assume is water trapped between the glass liner and the shell of the carafe..

Are Priority tickets back?

Earlier posts said that getting into the show was no first come first served...aka no priority and line voucher tickets..I see on the ticket website today, that some upcoming shows show 'Priority Ticket'

Model updates I would like to see...

I'd really like to see the colors available on the KBGV be available on other models

Creating a thermal carafe model with the electrical switch for half pot like on the KBGV would also be nice. I know the KBT has the manual switch on the basket to reduce the flow speed..but having the system actually move the water at a slower speeds seems more optimal

Missing Starz On Demand episodes

I have been watching the various 'Power' series on Starz on Demand. Now on Power Book IV. All the seasons are available but two episodes (2 and 3) from season 1 aren't there . The episodes are on the Starz app and website...just not there on Dish On Demand. Makes no sense to me why two episodes from the season are missing since all previous shows have had all episodes from all their seasons....Sure I know I can watch on Starz app but curious minds want to know...what's the deal on the Dish On Demand?

Leftover water in the 'works'

Most probably know this..but not all the water processes from the tank to the pot. There is a bit left in the internal 'works'. I did an experiment to see how much.

First I ran 501 ml of water thru the system after making a pot this morning. Then measured the amount in the pot which was 488 ml...or about 0.44 oz

Then drained the system (pulled of arm and dumped out). Did the same test. Difference was a bit over 4.5 oz...

My car rental from OGG experience and strategy..

I was looking for a good deal on a car rental at OGG. 14 days total. I wanted to stay with the bigger companies, simply for peace of mind....Anyways I searched continually on Costco and Expedia websites. Prices fluctuate like crazy! I booked and canceled several rentals from Budget, Hertz, Thrifty, Alamo, and Sixt. I found booking the 'free cancellation' options, while more expensive is also safer...since if you find a lower price a few days later, you can cancel for free (no charge to card until you get the car). I ended up with a VW Jetta GLI from Sixt for $525 for 14 days. The car was nice and the price was right!
