My parents are boomers so maybe that explains it, but my mom is very much autistic and my dad is neurodivergent. They even brought up to me once about how they read an article about how autism is a spectrum, like they have no concept of it. I don’t understand it especially because even just observing their relationship dynamics it seems like such an obvious thing?

Just kind of an interesting but mundane update!

I feel like my mom just asks rhetorical questions with no true answer because she’s not actually interested in the other persons response. When I try to correct her it really raises my cortisol and makes me upset, wondering how other people fight through the urge to feel heard and understood? Especially when your parents is elderly, retired and autistic.

Saying foods are “bad” or that they’re being “bad” by eating something. Without fail every time I visit I buy my own snacks like chips which they would never buy for themselves and yet they somehow eat all of mine and can’t control themselves, like just buy it for yourself?? I’ve been hearing about them doing south beach diet for the past month and yet when I visited this last weekend I saw them binge on foods. It’s clearly the typical disordered diet culture of their generation that I would feel bad for, but I become resentful and sad for my child self who has had such issues with diet and body image. And how freely my mom comments on my cousin who is postpartum having “not lost the weight” and she freely comments how much weight I’ve lost but I just don’t engage. But all the little comments and weird overeating behavior when I visit makes me irrationally angry sometimes😩

Excited for Monday’s episode hearing them recap the last week and Taylor’s wedding!!!!

Maybe just having no schedule but the way something that happened a few days ago is “a few weeks ago” to them and things like that. Like major exaggerations of time or even saying something was a year ago when it was 9 months ago. Takes a lot of patience to not correct little things like this🥴
