Statement from Filipino Reddit moderators

On behalf of my fellow moderators here and other subreddits:

As moderators, we strive to make our respective subreddits nonpartisan. However, in light of the recent developments for the past few days, we refuse to remain silent.

We are aware of the CICC's demands for Reddit (and Discord) to open a local office within the 24 hours, of which failure will result in the complete disruption of these services in the Philippines. This deadline has been extended for another 24 hours for Reddit after it reached out to the CICC to discuss their plans to comply with the order. Yet, at the same time, Globe Telecoms and DITO Telecommunications have decided to block Reddit and Discord on their own, even while these negotiations are going on, and even in the absence of a court order authorizing them to take this action.

Reddit is the virtual home of many online communities that cater to different interests, whether it's about local or national affairs, educational and academic matters, hobbies and crafts, or just being a digital. As a platform, Reddit aims to bridge people, open conversations, and connect people to what makes them human. More importantly, it is one of the very few social media networks where content is still moderated by humanss, doing it in the spirit of volunteerism, to ensure that each individual community (subreddit) remains a place where real human conversations happen.

Yet, our government's actions show that it is keen to crack down on social media websites, spaces where Filipinos are free to express themselves as guaranteed by our Constitution, spaces where Filipinos are free to discuss how to hold government accountable. Even according to last year's Transparency Report, Reddit has noticed that a number of takedown requests from our local authorities "involved criticism of public figures, claims of their involvement in corruption, and general commentary on newsworthy events." At the rate things are going, it will be only a matter of time before the Philippines will have its own version of the Great Firewall of China.

The recent incidents of school violence, as well as other pressing issues often blamed on social media websites, is a complex issue that cannot be solved by a mere website block. It ignores other factors that may have more impact on how these problems can be resolved. Solving these issues will need the collaboration of several stakeholders like parents, teachers, law enforcement officers, social workers and other institutions. It may be more productive for the government to work with these stakeholders, instead of treating a total ban or regulation of social media as a silver bullet.

We are non-partisan, yes. But we refuse to be silent. We refuse to be neutral.

We demand better from our government.

We deserve better.

Why can't you be publicly decent?

Partida the kids are screaming at the top of their lungs. KIDS. Plural. Nasaan na ba public decency huhuhuhu

Should Freelance contract employees act as Regular Employees?

I was employed by this Event Management Company located in Ortigas, in a Freelance Contract.

Payment is good, kasi nasa backend ako.

However, everyone in the company is in Freelance Contract as well, including even the HR and even the longest staying employee (4 years na daw sya don).

Syempre I know talaga na wala government mandated benefits compared sa Regular Employee, pero ang di ko gets, bakit need namin pumasok ng 8am to 5pm, tapos may times pa na binabawasan sahod namin, not according to KPI but according sa Attendance sa event we produced.

Naiirita ako kasi I did Events Management before. Buo namin makukuha yung salary namin kapag na launch ang project, tapos extra compensation is based sa attendance. Hindi bawas yung base.

Nagbibigay din etong company ko ng Memo regarding salary deductions according to KPI. Jusq kahit pumasok ka pa ng araw araw, basta di mo makuha KPI mo, bawas 1 day per 1 target (total of 20 needed targets)

Pwede ba yun? Paano pag nireklamo namin, edi tanggal kami?

MCA Birthday ko now and I feel like not celebrating it.

HI MCA.

Your inosenteng Mod is here.

Birthday ko ngayon but I feel like it's not worth celebrating. Yep, I'm sad.

My partner (M28) has prepped something with the circle of friends, pero syempre iba parin pag kasama family mo ano?

I mean, materialistic na kung sasabihin, I just expected something special siguro from my Mom, my mayamang Tito, my Tita na naghahandle ng pera from their business... Just to make me feel special. Minsan lang ako magpakita samin eh and they know na I am personally struggling financially.

Hayst. Then here's the worst part. Dagdag isipin ko pa to.

My Homophobic dad.

Ayoko na siya idescribe but he's a dick.

Sapat na siguro ang screenshots na ito from my Mom.

Edit:

Thank you everybody for the greetings. I highly appreciate it. To those people who felt like I was not that harsh with my words, I would like to say na hindi kasi ako Confrontational. Kumbaga even before this incident, kahit na marami nang instances wherein they belittle me and my Partner, pinalalagpas ko lang.

I'm not angry. I am just incredibly and utterly disappointed. Ayoko din awayin si Mom since she just lost her younger brother 2 weeks ago.

What AF branches have you tried and what are your complaints about them?

Hi!

I'm doing a report (news) regarding AF and their management. What are your thoughts about your local AF branch?

- Are your subscriptions "sulit" or enough?

- Are Amenities well-maintaned?

- Are the Coaches friendly and helpful?

- Which Group Class or GX have you joined? Should there be more GX added to your local Branch?

- What is the best AF branch you've been on? What is the worst?

This report will be used as a survey for a paper I am doing, which might be reviewed by AF themselves. Thank you so much!

REPORT ANYTHING THAT ISN'T A VALID CONFESSION.

Especially posts na puro kaerbogan lang pinapairal. 😒

I'll be happy to permanently ban them in this Subreddit, and mark their accounts as Spam REDDIT-WIDE.

Puksain natin yang mga yan. Ang kakalat eh.

Role offered is not what I applied for

I am applying for a Full-time Position with this company. All along, akala ko Full-time Position yung binibigay since yun din kasi nakasulat sa Job Listing sa Indeed. All interviews went well and wala naman sinabi about Freelance or Project-based Contract during the interviews.

Nung nakuha ko na JO, Freelance position yung nakasulat, with no regularization involved. Binasa ko paulit ulit baka mali lang intindi ko. Pero 3 months lang talaga yung contract.

What should I do?

RE: NSFW Topics

Hi, mga tao!

After careful consideration, the mods will implement manual removal of ANY NSFW posts that we think are not relevant or not ideal for the subreddit, especially yung mga di naman CONFESSION.

We are not r/alasjuicy . Please keep it that way.

Some NSFW posts will still be retained, especially if said posts already yielded some attention.

However, kung makita ng Mod na ang isang post ay too explicit and inappropriate, it will be removed upon the Mod's individual discretion and bias.

Thank you for understanding.

Best,
