Book Cover Illustrators

Ive been meaning to get into book cover illustrating for a while now and needed some guidance on the feasibility in Pakistan.

  1. Is it something worth pursuing or am I better off finding other fields to pursue?
  2. How to find clients?
  3. What are some resources I could use to get started?
  4. What are common mistakes beginners make?

If you or someone you know can guide, any help would be appreciated ^^

Ai "artstyles" and their origins

So we all know ai is trained on human art so the term ai artstyle has always felt a bit off to me. Anyways, we all know about some popular ai "artstyles", specifically the LoRas right. Lately I've been seeing some art online which i find pretty, only to later find it was ai, and then i hate it. But the artstyle i can tell belongs to actual artists that i may have seen even before ai was popularised. Now im having trouble finding the artists of all these different styles, and i try to search for them but i keep seeing ai, and not the actual artist that the style originated from. Like obv the LoRa was trained on some artist's work for it to output such "pretty" "art" in that particular style.

Who are some of the artists that the popular ai artstyles have come from? Does anyone know how to find the artists that these specific (not the generic ones) LoRas were trained on?

Btw Ive been seeing way too much ai "art" on pinterest despite having the ai posts setting thing turned off and I'm kind of tired of it. I havent found a good pinterest alternative so i keep using it but any recommendations are appreciated :(

(English is not my first language so excuse any mistakes)

Is there any Ko-fi alternative that works in Pakistan?

Is there any alternative that I can use to provide online services or digital products internationally? Preferably something that isn't a hassle when it comes to receiving payments.

What is with companies ghosting you after 4 rounds of interviews?

Ive been facing this problem for a while where companies just ghost you after taking interview (sometimes multiple interviews), and you find out via their linkedin or sth where theyve uploaded a welcome [name] as our new [insert position] that theyve gone with another candidate.

Is it really that hard to send a simple "sorry we've gone with another candidate" email. Thats like 6 words. Heck, you dont even have to type it yourself. Most of your emails are written by chatgpt anyways. Is it really too much to ask that the person that has invested so much time into giving interviews be at least informed that youre not gonna hire them? It leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. I cant help but feel disgusted by the company and the hiring team.

Also, what does hr even do? Isnt it their job to send emails?

How I won the tennis tournament at my university without ever having played it before

EDIT 2: If youre from a developed country reading this, take this story with a grain of salt. No need to get so upset about it. Its not that serious

As the title mentions, I played tennis for the first time in my uni tournament, and won.

For some context, Ive always been a huge sports fan. I love playing table tennis, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and whatnot. However Ive always struggled with finding people to play with. Ive never had a playing partner, and most of my friends arent sporty. In fact, they would rather avoid anything that requires physical activity. Which leaves me in a tough spot. I dont want to force anyone to play with me, but I really want to play. So whenever there was a tournament nearby that I could participate in, I would pretty much always sign up, not because I wanted to win or anything, but because that was the only time I would actually get to play. And boy were they so worth it. I had so much fun.

Same thing happened with the tennis tournament. I found out my uni was hosting a tennis tournament, and I was ecstatic. I'd already bought a tennis racket in the hopes of playing one day, but had never gotten the chance before that point, so I thought to myself, this was the perfect opportunity to finally play tennis. My uni was a pretty big one, in fact one of the best in my country, so i was really excited.

Now the tournament was structured such that there were only a set number of teams (one for each uni school). Each school had to bring a team forward for the tournament. And the matches would be between the different school teams, with one winner school and one runner-up in the end. The match bracket shcedule is made before the teams register, so it doesnt matter whether a school puts forward a team or not, its going to be in the schedule regardless (can you see where this is going?).

The tournament rolled around and I decided to put some practice in before the match. So I played against the wall. And I enjoyed it. Then finally came the time for the first match. And I waited. And waited. And waited. And the opponent never showed up... I didnt know whether to be happy that Id moved on to the next round, or sad that i couldnt play that day. But whatever. I could play the next day right? :)

The next day I showed up to the court, and the same thing happened. And the same on the third. At this point Im just going to the courts for attendance rather than for the game.

And finally, its time for the final match, and Im expecting to win the tournament without having to play a single match. Its 5 min to victory and the opponent team shows up. Yayyyy finally the reason I participated in the tournament is about to pay off.

The final match starts, and we realise pretty soon that they dont know how to play either. Its 2 beginners playing against each other, hoping that the next shot lands in the court. Maybe I was just a bit better than them or maybe the other person made one too many mistakes, either way, I won.

And thats the story of how I won the tournament as a beginner, only having to play a single match. Turns out that was the only match that took place that year at the tournament, bcz no other schools put a team forward for tennis. Now despite still being a beginner, I can say Im a tennis champion, and have the trophy to show for it :))

Btw, I never actually got to play tennis after that :(

EDIT:

Seeing as how nobody is believing me (understandably so lol), let me give some addititional context.

I live in a third world country, so most people that go to universities dont go to play, but to study, so they can support their families in the future. Professional sports players arent paid well here, so they wont be supportign their families financially if they play sports. Co-curriculars that help in getting jobs in the future are much more preferrable so thats what most people focus on. In fact theres even very few people that watch these uni matches if any. And the ones that do show up to watch them are there to support their friends.

Most of the tournaments have the same team, bcz kids arent willing to take part in them, so schools send the same 7 people to play basketball, volleyball, table tennis, etc, especially the girls. The boys still do have variation in the different teams.

This was the first time my uni held a tennis tournament since covid. And im a girl, so I was in the girls tournament. The boys tournament did have quite a few participants.

Market situation in smaller cities (not Khi, Lhr, Isb)

Im curious if there are good companies that pay well that arent situated in Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad. Like Faisalabad or Bahawalpur?

Ik the market is pretty bad rn, and even in those 3 big cities there's a lot of companies that paying pretty low, but the situation in Faisalabad is way too bad with salary ranges from 15k (far below min wage) to maybe 40k if youre lucky. I've really only been seeing posts about well paying companies that are situated in the bigger cities, so what should someone thats living in a smaller one without any prospect of relocation do?

Good Companies to work at?

Ive seen posts about companies to avoid when looking for a job, and was thinking if we could have a list of companies that would be good to join. Looking at them from a compensation and company culture/environment standpoint, as well as learning for freshers.

Please comment if you think the company you work at/have worked at is a good fit.

NUST for MS AI?

I did my BS in SE from NUST, and would like some guidance on whether it would be wise to do my MS in AI from NUST.

Is it even necessary? Would it be worth it? Does having MS help in job applications? Is the course content too similar or will I learn something new? Im confused and need guidance.

Need career guidance from industry professionals

I graduated last year with a BS in SE and have been having difficulty finding a job. Everyone was saying that due to AI, most companies have stopped/reduced hiring fresh grads. I dont think thats entirely the case because I do see a few job posts that are for fresh grads altho not alot. Or even that you should have gotten one before graduation.

I have applied to so many places and have barely heard back.

I feel like theres probably something wrong with my cv. I dont know what to do now or where to go from here.
Can someone please guide me a little? How do i find a job? Should I just switch my field? Or would it be better for me to keep applying and hoping for the best?

Where does whatsapp desktop store media files?

I can see media files in the chat, but i cant download them. The download/save as buttonis there, but clicking it does literally NOTHING. No popup, no notfication of any sort, no sound. its like clicking a button with no functionality behind it. Same case with "Open with" option.

I can see these photos and videos in the chat. I just cant download them. I also cant find them anywhere in my computer. Theyre not in C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Packages\*.WhatsAppDesktop*\LocalState\sessions\___________\transfers

Does it have anything to do with my phone? My phone is broken since last week so Ive been using the whatsapp desktop app
