Manual of Martial Prowess (Revised)

Spent some time this week working out some of the kinks people noted in the original post of the manual and made some additions. This is a list of the updates.

Changes, Buffs and Nerfs

- Tornado defense’s missing duration added (ends at the start of your next turn).

- Pusher Feat previously allowed for the possibility of a party to one round or two round single creatures regardless of hit points via exhaustion. The feat has been nerfed to prevent this.

- Weapon Expert has had additional text added to clarify when masteries are triggered.

- Quick Reflexes on the Finely Tuned Edge feat has been adjusted so that it benefits finesse weapons exclusively as intended.

You can now change techniques known at level ups.

- Combat dice in tier 1 and early tier 2 have been nerfed to rain in their low level power at levels materials were performing well in originally. They now use a D2 (coin) for the first two levels and a d4 at third and forth, a d6 at fifth and sixth and return to normal progress at 7th level.

- The number of combat dice you have scales faster now and caps at 8 instead of 6 per rest.

- Revised battle master buffed, it now has gains 2 additional combat dice at each battle master level to increase the consistency of its technique usage as it gains levels.

- Martial training origin feat and Technical Fighting fighting style have been nerfed to match the low level nerf to combat dice in tier 1, replacing their d6 combat die with a D2 andbd 4 respectively.

New Combat Techniques (30 total combat techniques)

- Ropes and Chains - bonus action utilize action for ropes, chains and grappling hooks.

- Improv Expert - Makes an improvised weapon more dangerous

- Rag Doll - hit a guy with another guy

- Studied Deception - bonus to roguish stuff

- Beyond Limitations - bonus to str and dex rolls when you fail

New Signature Techniques (9 total signature techniques)

- Seismic Toss - Launch a guy into the stratosphere

- One Thousand Cuts - bleed you foes to death

- Haughty Roll - the more you bob and weave the more force you load into your shoots.

I still haven't gotten around to rebalancing the Signature techniques, so that will likely be the focus of my next update. I am also planning on making the materials from the manual accessible on DNDbeyond and will also be providing a guide on how to set them up on your character sheet through the website and app.

With all out of the way I hope you all enjoy and please feel free to give me some suggestions and let me know if you see any issues with the material presented.

Single Damage dealer thought experiment

Ok here's the thought experiment, you have a party of 4 players one is a either battle master or champion fighter, the rest can be whatever class combos you like. The parties thing is quite literally just pumping up the fighter as much as possible while the rest of them just chill in a corner and watch. Just how much can this party amp up this single character and what would be the best party composition to make this viable. 5.5e, let's say at each tier of play (1st, 5th, 11th and 20th)

Just to get ahead of these kinds of comments, this is purely a thought experiment and not a play style I'm pushing for, it probably would not be very fun to play in this party for more than a one shot.

Manual of Martial Prowess

Hello Everyone,

In celebration of Arcana Unleashed I've made something for all the guys, gals and thalls who don't wanna touch a crusty old spell book, recite some silly old prayer or song, The Manual of Martial Prowess. This is a collection of homebrew rules meant as an overhaul of the martial, non-spellcasting, classes. These rules are meant to serve as a major bump in power and versatility for martial characters (barbarian, fighter, monk and rogue) and slight bumps for the other weapon using classes (paladin and ranger). It includes feats covering each weapon mastery, and weapon properties as well as a reworking of the battle masters maneuvers for the martial classes called combat technjiques. These include several new techniques not previously from the battle masters maneuvers. The manual also includes a series of optional feats for the various weapon using classes and a revised battle master subclass. Finally, I've also introduced a new mechanic called Signature Techniques, which are powerful abilities that grow as your character gains levels (think along the lines of an anime protagonist's special attack and you'll have an idea what I'm going for). The signature techniques listed in this manual are not fully balanced against one another and are in an early draft form, so I am very eager to receive some feedback here and suggestions for more signature techniques.

Any feedback is welcome and I hope you all enjoy.

Did they add a bunch of new weapons?

I wanted to see if anyone had the same thing happen as well, but when I went online to make a character it looks like they added a bunch of new weapons. Is this like official content they added or like some third party thing, am I seeing unreleased stuff I'm not supposed to see yet? I'm mildly confused.

Here are the new weapons im seeing

- Atgeir

- Blunderbuss

- Cannon

- Cleaver

- Flintlock

- Scythe

Cavalier 5.5e Build

So I realize that the Cavalier is not the strongest fighter out there but I've been watching Steel Ball Run and want to do some horseback riding. Plus with the 2024 rules and new feats I feel like there are some combinations that help bring out the subclasses' full potential and help complete its fantasy.

Here's a build I plan on using in an upcoming lvl 20 one shot, the rules allow for any official published content from 2014 and 2024 rules using for 2024 versions of feats in the case of redundant feats. I'm building this to be a highly mobile tank that will be able to position itself to direct agro toward it and then punish it, with a light bit of battlefield control. Looking for some feedback on the build, if things will work like i hope, deciding on certain feats, etc.

The Cavalier

**1st level**

*Human*

\- Zentarium Ruffian (we'll need this for later)

*Fighter*

\- Fighting Style: Pack fighting

\- Weapon Masteries: Halberd, Glaive, Spear (for range)

*Custom Background*

\- Mark of Passage (well need this for later too)

*Ability Scores*

Str 17

Dex 8

Con 16

Int 8

Wis 10

Cha 14

**3rd level**

*Subclass: Cavalier*

\- Unwavering Mark (will pair nicely with what's next)

**4th level**

\- Weapon Mastery: Pike

\- Feat: Potent Dragonmark (It's Horse time, picking up PD for a once per short rest spellslot that lets us cast Find Steed. Our cavalier can now be the cavalry and ride into battle reliably) Cha 15

**6th level**

\- Great Weapon Master Str 18

\- (3rd level find steed)

**7th level**

\- Warding Maneuver (so-so, will be nice when needed)

**8th level**

\- Feat: Mounted Combatant (Now no one is touching our horse and advantage while on the horse, will be very nice with what's coming up) Str 19

(4th level find steed)

**9th level**

\- Indomitable (Nice)

\- Tactical Master (Nice, our Halberd will now be our main weapon)

\- Weapon Mastery: take your pick

**10th level**

\- Hold the line (Nice)

\- (Find Steed maxes out at 5th level here)

**12th level**

\- Feat: Zentarum Tactics (Now once a reaction when we get hit we can hit them back, and since we tank hard and they can't hit our horse this makes us a nasty tank.) Cha 16

**14th level**

\- Feat: Heavy armor master (since we're gonna want to be taking some hits with regularity the damage reduction is nice here) Con 17 (I would do str but the next feat does not give me a con bump and I want to get it to 18 at lvl 19)

**15th level**

\- Ferocious Charge (eh, it's ok and with the horse you could probably make regular use of it)

**16th level**

\- Feat: Charger or Sentinel (Charger has natural synergy with Ferocious Charge and I could likely make use of both every round with the mount. That said, Sentinel has several redundancies, but I'd want it for the reaction attack granted from attacking other creatures as it would assist with maximizing my 18th level subclass feature {thoughts on the choice would be appreciated} and help minimize uses of Warding Maneuver) Str 20

**18th level**

\- Vigilant Defender (the piece de resistance, this combined with zent tactics, hold the line and sentinel (maybe) combined with good placement I think should give me a ton of attacks. Combine it with tactical mastery and hold the line i should also have a fair bit of battle field control as far as a martial goes any ways)

**19th level**

\- Epic Boon: Boon of Bloodshed or Boon of Desperate Resilience (either works I feel. Bloodshed would benefit a lot since it procs once a turn, meaning the more opportunity attacks I get from vigilant defender the more damage I can deal. By contrast DR won't benefit my attacks but with me tanking it would serve to keep me standing for longer, thoughts?) Con 18

Isn't this supposed to be illegal?

Did anyone else see this outside the polling stations today? Isn't it supposed to be illegal to advertise for a candidate within a certain distance of the polls? This is literally right outside of the Hungarian Center (my polling place) they were there when I arrived and left. Am I crazy? Cause I'm pretty sure that's illegal.
