Ranking the mainline sicilians based on their sharpness/aggressiveness vs their objective soundness

Since I am not too well versed in the different mainlines (if possible, include the Kalashnikov), I was wondering how more experienced players would rank each of them based on the aforementioned factors.

Recommendations for books/courses for the Italian Game

So I am currently looking to expand upon the 'substance' of my italian game knowledge.

Ideally, I would like to use a book/course which is deep enough on a lot of lines, to really give a proper, fundamental outlook without being superficial (!).

I have already taken a quick look at the 'dynamic italian game' course by Krykun, though I am a little wary of the fact that he might exclusively cover the dynamic lines (which I enjoy btw, I just want to know most of the important lines all around).

Now taking that course aside, any books for the italian game you'd recommend? If possible, I'd want them to include the Evans Gambit as I am trying to build a complete italian repertoire but with a 'dynamic' focus.

Question about explosive movements/sports in relation to ketosis

I know this question might fall out of the usual range, but please indulge me here:

I'm currently on a carnivore diet (controversial, I know), does this inhibit my maximum output for explosive power?

Do I really need carbs or are ketones enough too?

I'm a little conflicted in that regard, because I am also cautious of glycation related inflammation.

Are carbs that important for explosive movement?

What a waste of a life

I don't want to overdo this post, so I'll keep it relatively short.

To preface, I was the kind of child with multiple interests throughout his childhood, specifically football (read soccer) and chess.

As you may know, to turn professional in these sports, you need early exposure and continuous training throughout.

And here we go: I have grown up in an abusive household, both physically and emotionally. The physical abuse, you can probably imagine what happened, but the emotional abuse destroyed any hopes whatsoever, of me turning pro in these sports:

Calling me worthless, telling me I will never achieve anything and I will grow old with nothing to show for. No support in my endeavours and even ridiculing me and calling 'insane' for trying to put a little more effort into them. I hate myself that I internalised it, that I, intrinsically, believed it.

I hate myself for then not being able to commit to anything, not being able to stick with anything. Just jumping around with no real direction and no real idea of what to do.

A directionless bum with no parental support and abuse.

What else is left of me? Just a pile of broken, destroyed dreams. Regrets over regrets, whenever looking at these two games which fulfilled me so much, I now feel physical and emotional pain. Knowing I could have made it and that I would have had a chance.

I want my time and my life back, I want parents like my cousins who actually give their all to support and love their children.

But as always, I will die without dreams and full of regrets. Losing before I even had a chance.

Question regarding carbs and athletic performance

L: 7" C: 5.5"

To preface, I'm on a carnivore diet, so high fat, high protein, no carbs.

Could this potentially inhibit my athletic performance for stuff where explosive power is needed, like sprinting and jumping?

Are ketones enough for that or do I have to eat carbs? And if so, should I focus my carbs around my workout sessions, so I'm not too long out of ketosis?

Carnivore for explosive athletes

Are there any examples of athletes in more explosive oriented sports? There is some endurance based athletes on carnivore, but I dont know any footballers/soccer players or any other athletes who primarily live off of a carnivore diet.

Do you really need carbs for maximum output in sprints or anything? Are ketones enough?

My hypothesis series: A little football thought experiment

Hey guys, just wanted to make a fun little series out of this one: I'll try to give you a hypothetical football player, who's in his early 20s playing sunday league to slightly above that with different attributes, in order to theorise how such players could advance further (not necessarily go pro, but why not shoot for the max anyways).

So, let's start with the first type of player:

Exceptional Game IQ, as in Thomas Müller or Xavi Hernandez, can easily predict and link plays

- Due to his great Game IQ, great positioning, always finding pockets of space and proper timing

- Quite press resistant

- Great decision making, always knowing what to do in any situation

Average athleticism, nothing extraordinary

- Extreme work ethic, ready to push hard

- Certainly above sunday league level in regards to athleticism, but nothing to scoff at

- Average top speed, acceleration, stamina and physicality

- Jumping height being also quite average

Technique is also average

- Again, above sunday league level, but nothing to scoff at

- Can cover all fundamentals, ping solid passes, got a solid shot/finishing, short/long passes are also ok

- Dribbling wise same thing, quite average

I know this might be a quick overview, but I am very excited to see you guys theorising how we could improve this player, why he may or may not break in to higher leagues/pro level and if there are some actual, notable pro players who cover this player type.

How can you play the italian game aggressively with white?

Apart from the Evans gambit, which might be a little unsound, is there any particular way to push for a fairly aggressive position in the italian game?

How to let go of regrets due to indecisiveness?

(Sorry if this is going to be a bit long, please bear with me)

To preface I am 21 years old and I was/am the kind of person who has always had different kinds of interests, whether it be a physical endeavour (e.g. sports or rather football/soccer) or more of an intellectual endeavour (e.g. academics, maths to be precise or chess).

My issue has ALWAYS been the following: indecisiveness, failing to commit to a single thing and a lack of support from my parents.

I've never been able to stick to a single thing for my entire life and this circumstance has broken me, beyond repair:

My passion/my dream is to become a professional at a certain thing, not your usual career.

This would entail being a professional football/soccer player, chess player or E Sports.

Now at 21, I feel like ALL of these chances have slipped away from me.

I definitely had/have the talent to become pro at these things, especially football and chess, but I am not idiot: How could anyone become a pro at an 'advanced' age, especially in football where you need exposure to scouts who almost exclusively focus on 'young' players. Chess in that regard is more feasible due to it being an individual sport, yet these players have gone through more rigorous training from a younger age, even if talent can be considered similar.

My parents were not helpful either in that regard: No support whatsoever, ridiculing any aspirations I have ever had, besides physical and emotional abuse. Imagine a lot of great professional players who got the support in any specific endeavour from a young age. I am sure, I could have done the same, only if...

As you can tell, I do have an INSANE amount of regrets due to all that. Time slipped away, I let it slip. It gives me physical pain to watch anything chess or football related, I try to avoid them somewhat so I am not forced to be met with my regrets every single day. I cannot live like this any longer, there has to be something, some way to alleviate all that.

Do I just give up? Do I just live day to day? Do I just rot away into mediocrity?

I sound like a dumb, wretched, melodramatic young adult who failed at what he wanted, before really trying.

Does anyone have some advice? Anything? Even if you don't, thanks for listening to my rant.

Starting a math degree: Roadmap for research?

To get straight to the point: I absolutely love pure mathematics, especially discrete mathematics. The problem solving process and how slowly, but surely one figures out a beautiful proof to an underlying lemma etc.

Now since I'll start my bachelor's degree this september, I was wondering how quickly I could get research experience? I understand my extreme limitations in understanding complex papers and such, but there is there no way for me to get my foot in the door in the world of pure maths research?

How to get electronics knowledge?

So basically, I've already bought a book about C programming and whatnot.

Embedded includes much more than just the pure software part, I do have a full devkit with cables and all but what about the ACTUAL electronics knowledge I need to design my own stuff? Is there some sort of book which gives a great introduction and goes into advanced topics?

How to start homelabbing?

So as the title says, looking for a way to start labbing. I've bought the Linux Admin Handbook and plan on working through it.

This is just theory though, so how can I find a way to decide which kind of hardware to buy? Switches and the like? I've already set up a VM with some basic hardening and SSH, but how do I get to the next step? Any particular books for that too?

Question regarding Ramesh's "Improve your chess calculation"

So I was wondering how one is intended to work with it? I've bought the book but it seems like one has to calculate from the initial position of the match we are given and only one or two moves in, he presents another diagram after like two moves or so.

Are we supposed to calculate for two to three moves, stop and go to the next diagram? Or does he want us to fully calculate everything?

I am asking since otherwise he would not have given us multiple diagrams for the entire variation, with multiple tasks inbetween.

Book for serious beginners

Hey guys, I really want to get into Python and I am willing to put some proper time into it.

Therefore I am looking for a book which teaches proper fundamentals as well as more advanced stuff. Ideally something which is less of a 'code this thing fast af' and more of a thorough and structured approach.

Appreciate all recommendations!

Experienced with Aagard's Calculation

I've already posted a question regarding another calculation/tactics books, but since I feel confident enough to do it, I would like to grind through Aagard's book (big stress on grind, I know it's not made for 'the average player')

For reference my lichess tactics rating is at 2633 (although I know you cannot just convert that number to pure playing strength)

Any experiences with the book? Any specific way you guys worked with it?

I am looking for a calculation/tactics focused book with proper difficulty and Aagard's book looks like a potential choice for me. Otherwise Ramesh's book could be an interesting choice too.

Experience with Dvoretsky's "School of chess excellence 2: Tactical Play"

Has anyone bought this book and worked with it? I really, really enjoy calculation and combinations, therefore my thought process was to buy this book, in order to improve my overall calculation ability. (This includes finding candidate moves too)
