Edge Sense and Zones

I like the Edge Sense feature and set it to Extreme on my X430 for my back yard and front yard as there is nothing that I would consider a danger to the mower in these two zones. Setting it to extreme really makes a difference for me in these zones. However I have a curb that runs along three other zones. I’d prefer it set to standard in these zones to prevent it from falling into the street. It would be nice if we could set this feature by zone. If we can and I’m missing this let me know.

Installation instructions for Fence Gate are terrible

I installed the fence gate on a picket fence today. I found the installation instructions to be lacking at best. Maybe I'm missing the actual instructions as I only have a pamphlet titled Quick Start Guide. I looked on line and found nothing better. Initially I was looking at parts that I had no idea of their purpose. Fortunately I found a video that shows installation on multiple fence types and I now see that the extra parts are for a chain link fence. The instructions tell me to drill holes, but do not recommend a drill size. The small screws that go into the holes to attach the brackets on the side and top of the gate do not go in very easily. I took my time as cross threading seemed to be a distinct possibility. I've found myself basically rebuilding this section of picket fence around the gate. Cutting the picket fence for the gate, leaves the pickets above the gate very poorly supported. I've added an additional cross member 2X4 above the gate which will support both the pickets and gate. The bolts they give you for the brackets do not work if any of them have to pass through a 2X4 and a picket. I wasn't able to find similar bolts that worked but I did eventually find some that were different but accomplished the task with a few washers.

I have the gate working now and it seems to be letting the X430 in and out like it is supposed to. Admittedly I'm not the most handy guy, but I more than get by. I think the instructions should be more detailed and the bolts provided should take in account the potential of passing through a 2x4 and the fence picket.

Flashing lights on X430 while charging.

SOLVED: some suggest IR light that is not visible to the eye but picked up by cameras. I went out and did not see it flashing. I went inside and looked at the camera and seen it flashing. Previous videos also contained small animals that set off security lights, which eliminated the cameras picking up the IR light.

I don’t know if the IR lights should be operational when parked though.

I have a camera aimed at my X430. Last night at 10:17PM eastern time the camera picked up the mower on the charger with the lights flashing. Anyone have any idea why this was happening?

Updates

Can updates be set to only happen when accepted? I’m gong on vacation for close to three weeks. Things are working fine at the moment and after reading of others having trouble following an update, I’d prefer to be home when an update occurs. I’m looking forward to a cut lawn when returning from vacation. I don’t want an update preventing this.

When finished cleaning how to return to base.

When I’ve finished cleaning my X430 and it was placed into the cleaning mode, I can’t remote control it back to the base or hit home. The unit tells me it is not connected. I have to physically push it back. Am I doing something wrong?

Choosing Our Boarding Time

We will be cruising to Alaska out of Vancouver in September. We will be spending three days in Vancouver prior to the cruise and are staying at an Airbnb with another couple. We need to be out of the condo by 11:00 AM. Looking at the Princess website (Your Guide to Arrival Groups & Boarding) it indicates that we pick our boarding time 30 days prior to boarding. Since we are staying in an Airbnb there is no lobby to wait in or hotel to hold our luggage for us. We'd like to board as soon as possible. I tried to pose this question to a Princess employee, but he sounded confused and eventually hung up on me. It has been a while since we previously sailed with Princess and I do not recall choosing a boarding time with them or other cruise lines.

  • 30 days prior, is this 12:01 AM on that 30 days prior or is there a specific time we can choose our boarding time?
  • Do the boarding times generally fill up?
  • What time is the earliest we can board?

I’m going to close this post. I got many wonderful answers here and I’d like to thank all who replied. I think I have a better understanding of what to expect.

Brewery waste

Another post had me thinking but I didn’t want to ask there and effectively hijack their thread. If I had access to the waste from a micro brewery, would this be useful and would it be green or brown? I have 4 composting bins that I dump grass, leaves and food scraps in. Right now I’m short on browns but will soon be short on greens after recently adding a robot mower and no longer bagging grass. The tiny clippings the robot leaves will be beneficial to my lawn but I’ll miss them for my compost.

Base placement - Landscaping

I'm pretty new to this, only received my X430 a few weeks ago. No major issues so far and am overall pleased. I'm wondering about the base and garage placement. I'm not pleased with how I currently have mine. I wasn't able to place it like I had initially wanted. I have an area where my first floor overhangs my yard by about 18" and I had planned on having it under there as far as possible. The satellite reception didn't like that. Now I have it around 6 feet from my house and partially into a garden bed. I've noticed the area that the mower sits does not get mowed and the grass is beginning to die under the garage. I was thinking about digging the area out that it sits and place patio blocks on top of gravel with everything being at ground level. I realize I'll need to use a hammer drill and a concrete drill bit to make holes for the base and garage to be secured. Another option would be to pour a small concrete pad at ground level, but that is too permanent. Thoughts on this and how have you set yours up?

Concerned about mice.

My 430 did an awesome job yesterday cutting my yards. This morning I thought it deserved a bath. When I tipped it up a mouse ran out. I imagine a mouse could do some damage. Especially with the string that I observed attached to the undercarriage. This brings up a few questions?

  • Anyone have any damage caused by mice?
  • I'm concerned about the mouse chewing that ridiculous string thinking it a good nesting material.
  • I was thinking of making the mower an annoying spot to nest by having it move frequently. Is it possible to set a small area within my back yard that is already mapped and have the mower take a 2 or 3 minute stroll a couple of times a day, to make nesting in or under it undesirable?
  • I'll probably have to put out a small amount of mouse poison in a pet safe bait box. I really do not want to but I'm concerned about potential damage.

Initial impression is good, but....

So far my 430 is working well. I have a few areas I'd like to refine but overall I'm pleased. I have a few very large planters that sit in my yard. I didn't feel they were big enough to make as no go zones like I have my decorative mulched islands. I'd like my 430 to do a better job around these planters. I don't see why it couldn't pass a few inches out on all four sides. Currently it see's these planters as obstacles like it does a tree.

  • Is there a way to have the 430 get closer to all sides of the planters?
  • Are there a series of how to videos for the Navimow products? I can read the manual but a series of videos from the company addressing common questions would be helpful.

Finally Achieved The Unown Platinum Medal.

I worked at this all day and caught 523 Pokemon today. I figured that it was now or never. For the past 4 hours I was one Unown away from achieving this. I was almost convinced that I’d have to depend on a remote trade.

Moving the base

My 430 arrived and it is cutting my backyard. After charging it up I drew my map and sent it on its way. Looks like I need to refine my map in a few places. I’m also considering moving the base. If I move the base do I need to re draw my map? Figure it’s best to find this out before I get my maps set.

Deciding on model X430 or i206

My yard is just under 0.25 acre and basically flat, other than a small area that could use some leveling. I really like the features of the X430 but thinking it might be overkill and a waste of the additional money over the cost of the i210 AWD. Is there any benefit with the X430 over the i210 AWD? I would imaging the X430 would get the job done much quicker.

Newbie question for cooking 2 different items simultaneously

I am new to sous vide. I started after a server that we have become friends with at our favorite restaurant explained how the lobster tails that we had added to our fillet order were prepared. They were literally the best lobster we had ever had. Since then I’ve prepared many things using our sous vide. I’d like to cook both strip steaks and lobster tails together. I know the lobster would be cooked to a higher temperature than our medium rare steaks but I was hoping to achieve that when searing them. I’m using a Breville sous vide that pretty much walks me through the process on an app. It however doesn’t account for different items at the same time. I was hoping to use the app to check the timing of both items and then set it for the one that would take the longest. Am I setting myself up for failure here? I will be doing 4 strip steaks and 4 petite lobster tails.

Biggest game changer in my mind.

Forever friends and allowing remote trades with them has been the biggest game changing feature in my mind. I’m working on completing level 77. I’ve been 1 short on the Platinum Medals. I’m working on a few but they will take a while. I got a remote trade request yesterday. I’ve made a list of needed Pokemon to complete regions. I was able to get Hawlucha in that trade to complete the Kalos region and get the 41st Platinum Medal. Thank you Nanida42!

Praying Mantis Egg Sack

I have some tall decorative grass in my yard that dies in the fall. I cut it down in the spring and it grows back. This year when cutting the dead grass I found this on the ground next to me. I assume it fell from the long blades that I cut. Looking for suggestions on how to insure its safety until they hatch? I don’t want to bring it inside because I’ll end up with countless little praying mantis in my house.

Bosch 800 - Just noticed a blue gasket that is laying in the dishwasher under the wash arm. I would have to stretch it to remove it which makes me think it is part of the dishwasher and not something that fell off of an item being washed.
