Wealth issues

I’m okay with the wealth system just because as a player, I can start off being the rich money bags I always strive to be in games. I enjoy being the Tony stark or Bruce Wayne of the group.

However, I have yet to find one director who fully understands how wealth works. They are always trying to charge me for everything and bring my wealth to 0 and I have to explain to them that’s not how wealth works.

I normally wouldn’t care, but during character creation, I’m making an active decision to weaken parts of my character to gain extra wealth when I could be mechanically combat stronger. So if they don’t play RAW for wealth, then I made those decisions for nothing and now I’m nerfed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Returning DM issues

TL;DR: Long time DM who took a long break after a strange "burn out" and is completely lost on how to return

Hey there. I've been playing ttrpgs for around 20 years now, starting in D&D 2e, moving to 5e then branching into about a dozen other games as I've experimented. Most of this time has been DMing, a forever DM if you will.

I still play in games as a player, I think it's healthy for a DM to also be a player to remind yourself what it's like on that end of the table. I've run and played in several games that have fully completed (D&D going 1-20 for example).

I've worked hard on improving my skill. Going from poorly hand sketched maps to using programs and making some more polished and maybe somewhat professional looking maps. I've always had my players fill out surveys to learn my strengths and weaknesses, trying to improve what I'm bad at with practice and change my thought processes and take my strengths and expand upon them. To me, DMing has been my art, my one thing I felt I was very good at. People I knew often turned to me and asked me to run games. I was the DM of all my friend groups and I loved doing it for them. Many people have said I should do paid DMing, but I could never bring myself to do it.

Moving forward...

Months ago when it release, learned a new system, Draw Steel. I fell DEEPLY in love with the game. It's everything I've ever wanted in a game and more. I ran a bunch of one shots, joined games, ran some short adventures and some false starts to games of course. So I was ready to run a real FULL campaign.

I put my heart and soul into writing it up. Cool systems, tons of maps. LOTS of lore, which is what I struggled with in the past, my lore and story writing was my weakest points. This time I tried VERY hard to get it good and the players who signed up ACTUALLY read things and were loving it, creating characters based on the lore and the world and getting lost in it before the game even started. I found a great group, ran a one shot with them. It was perfect.

Then it happened...

My head blew. I don't know if it was panic or I overdid it and burned out or what. But I could not bring myself to actually start the game despite it being ready to go. I had several adventures like..ready. Not necessarily railroaded, but just the first quest and then all the regional information jotted down so I can pivot according to what they decided. Deep story lines they could follow, but didn't necessarily have to. I always run openworld/sandbox games.

Anyway. I started getting head spins, like physical reactions. I freaked out and called it off. Told the players the truth, exactly what was happening and we went on an indefinite hiatus. I stopped working on games, stopped running games, stopped playing games.

This was about 5 months ago. I've never gone this long without ttrpgs in my life.

But I recently got back into it. I joined a Draw Steel game about 2 weeks ago. I'm having fun. I wanna run again but I just don't know what to do. I have ideas for campaigns, I can find players, but I'm scared of repeating all this. Letting people down with another false start. Also I feel very lost with setting up a new game. I'm wanting to run Draw Steel again, but my VTT options, for me personally aren't great. Roll20 is not good for Draw Steel, not enough tools to help. Foundry I just don't like on the DM side, I ran into so many issues when it came to importing maps all the time, it stressed me out. But now there's Codex, Draw Steel's specific VTT which is great, but very intimidating to learn how to use on the DM side.

I thought about running something else. But something I kinda learned with myself, my cognitive load is quite high. Running like a pbta game, such as one of my favorite games of all time, Apocalypse World, is too simple mechanically and I get very bored and disinterested fast despite how much I love the game as a player.

I know some people might suggest one shots, and I plan on doing that for sure. But I'm just trying to figure out what to do campaign wise for the future. Anyone have this issue? How did you come back after a very long hiatus?

[Online] [Other] [Thursdays] looking for a Draw Steel game for a friend and I

My buddy and I are looking for a Draw Steel game to join. We are experienced in Draw Steel, I myself have run short campaigns and several one shots for the system. He has played in all my Draw Steel games

Looking for something anytime in the afternoon/evening. We are both night owls staying up into the early AMs.

Central Time. United States.

You can expect good mic quality, friendly attitudes and willingness to commit ourselves to your world.

We are familiar with roll20, forge steel and foundry. We are also willing to learn other tools.

While we prefer homebrew worlds, we are open to modules as well.

Campfire bad

This game is so fun, had a blast during the demo, glad it's finally out.

But can we move/remove the campfire? It's constantly killing us every time we're in the lobby. Or maybe let us move it?

It's a fun silly thing to mess with, but gets annoying after the first few times.

Perimeter main gone rogue

TL;DR: after 300 hours playing only Perimeter I switched to Outpost and it paid off..and I’m liking it!

I am someone who doesn’t like heavy mechanics like raids or puzzles unless there’s no time limit, so Outposts and Cryo never appealed to me. Dire marsh I simply never liked, the design of the map is just set up for gank city and snipers.

So for season 1. I ONLY played Perimeter except to do a few contract missions before quickly giving up on them. 300 hours purely in perimeter alone. I love that map, fights feel amazing. Luckily they gave it love. But unfortunately most of the golds come from players so I never got to complete anything requiring gold salvage. I never even held a Misriah until the last day of season 1 which made me really sad because pump shotguns have always been my favorite weapons in all shooters.

This season I decided to spice things up. I’m a master of Perimeter, so I decided to master a new map. Outpost. The first few hours were tough. I felt lost and scared. Keep worrying about getting lost in Pinwheel, barely even knew how to get in.

Hours later, I ended the day with a purple Misriah, blue circuit breaker and a gold Outland mod.

I know some of you have vaults full already of this kind of stuff and more. But for me it was a real achievement. I just hope people are more patient with me as I learn, because people get awfully upset when I don’t understand all the different keys, rooms and loot spots.

I swear I’m not following you around to steal your loot, I’m just scared af of getting lost.

Flint 2. Enabling SQM?

Hey there. I'm pretty new to all this internet configuring stuff. I have a T-Mobile gateway for internet. When I download things, my ping spikes horribly when I download things and I had multiple people recommend stacking it with a personal router.

Bought the Flint 2 off of recommendation.

I was told to enable SQM but I am finding it nowhere in all the settings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update: I figured out SQM and did a waveform bufferbloat test. Before I used SQM, I was getting a F grade, now I get an A. After additional testing myself, I am no longer throttling my ping/latency when I download things so it did help me. My speed did drop a little but was worth it for perfectly stable internet. Still hardcore gaming with no issues

Straightening Iron smell

I have a 2-3 year old gaming pc.

HP Omen

4090

I9 processor

32 gb ram

Anyway. Randomly for the past 2 days, it’s been emitting a weird smell, smells like a straightening iron maybe?

It’s been running perfectly fine, intensive gaming and idle.

I cleaned it with compressed air and didn’t seem to fix it.

Black box vs Amplified G5AR

I have the black box and have had it for years. It’s good, does gaming well enough.

It’s definitely slower than isps I’ve had in the past and has some latency issues, especially when I download anything.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the Amplified G5AR (the white one).

Anyone have experience with both of these as a gamer? Wanna make sure it’s an actual upgrade for latency and speed.

Edit: T Mobile gave me a fee upgrade to try for the G5AR. Also ordered a Flint 2 as recommended after doing some research. Thanks for the help. I will report back with updates in a few days incase anyone is curious.

Did 400 material mythic runs..

I spent the following:
- 200 lair keys
- 100 greater lair keys
- 100 Betrayer husks
All with lair bosses maxed out in the war plans with the nemesis portals and had party members on T12.

I got about a full vault page full of mythics, none of them having more than 1 greater affix.

Only 1 of them were for 1 of the 2 items I run, Tyraels might (the one I got, no GA) and Heir of perdition. Most were the ring and amulet.

I did bounce around bosses, did a couple inventory’s full of each boss. Duriel seemed to give the best so I stuck with him the longest.

Only got the Greater/Ultimate Nemesis lair once. The regular nemesis I got once every 5-10 runs.

Not a single mythic seal.

Just thought I’d share.

Edit: I should note, any key I got from those chests I used, so it was more than the original 400.

Buddy and I loaded into regular perimeter to check out the changes which are very lovely. However we ran a entire circles around the map, checked the tunnels and everywhere I could think. No players. No one ever extracted. Not even rooks. We stayed till the last second.

Is it possible to only spawn in alone? I have over 200 hours and never seen this happen.

Not only did they nerf a lot of the items from the playtests that would allow us to have many more minions, they took so many aspects from us minion necromancers.
- Occult Dominion
- Cursed Aura (This was removed today, idk why??)
- Several minion damage aspects

Some of these were fixed into uniques. So if you want half the stuff you had before you HAVE to have uniques for it. Also, there's not even enough aspects anymore to give minions buffs in every slot, so you are left with aspects you have to equip that provide no combat benefits.

And every single new minion unique that came out can't be made into a unique charm.

The only set we get as a minion necromancer, half of it buffs the army of the dead ultimate instead of the actual minions. And again reaper warrior skeletons are shining way above the rest due to a 50x damage boost + a stun in a single book of the dead selection.

It's nice that we can actually build into skeleton warriors this season, but everything is so nerfed down that i'm struggling to climb even though I have full ancestral gear, mythics, uniques and everything all masterworked and tempered.

People were saying minion necros got buffed this season, I'm not seeing it at all.
