Charles Manson Tapes

How do people get roped into this? Like how do cults exist? Throughout the whole first episode people are stating how strange yet somehow charming, "Charlie" is. At some point early on how are you not conscious enough to say "eh, probably not". Feels like there's no survival instinct on their part or no gut feeling. The women in the doc that speak on being in his family piss me off so much, they're weak individuals. Idc how "lost" you are, how don't you know right from wrong?

Considering getting back into it

Mid 30s now, skating was a big part of growing up but then life happened. Im trying to find hobbies now, things that stick, i seem to be all over the place but considering getting a board and trying to spend some time skating again. Anyone come back to it after such a long time? Talking 20ish years. If so, any tips?

In store orders should take priority over mobile orders

I went to Dunkin this morning and stood at the register for 5 mins while the single, stressed-out worker had me wait to prioritize mobile orders. Ordering on an app, you’re paying for the convenience of picking it up when it’s ready. That convenience shouldn’t mean you get to virtually cut in front of the actual humans standing right there. Whole experience feels broken.

Learning about myself

Saw an Instagram comment the other day that really stuck with me. Roughly quoted it said:

You learned that speaking up, having needs, wants, or interests are only ever going to be a source of conflict, and so you learned to stop having them. You were conditioned to be functionally non-existent.

Kind of hit me like a freight train, wasn’t even directed toward me but it spoke to me. My whole life is a “whatever you want, i don’t care, as long as you’re happy” situation so to get a glimpse as to why that is, makes me feel validated. To add to it, I’m still newly sober (just over 2 years) so I’m trying to learn about me and understand me. What i want, what i like, hobbies, thoughts, feelings, the whole 9. Strange to do, especially as a man in his mid 30s but i gotta start sometime. Not sure if i have a question, just felt like sharing in hopes that someone else can feel seen. Any tips, tricks, thoughts, are welcomed!

Worth it?

I’m sure this gets asked here all the time, so I appreciate anyone who’s willing to share their thoughts again despite how repetitive it may be.

Been trying to find a streaming “home” and recently came across Directv Stream. Ive used Sling (mix of blue and orange + sports package), YouTube Tv, Fubo and i have seemingly every streaming platform out there, hulu plus disney max bundle, netflix, peacock, paramount+, prime, appletv. I’m in the NY metro area and love my Mets, Islanders, Jets, & Knicks so MSG, SNY, local sports networks are important which i know this has. Also love NFL Redzone, and different college networks for CFB. Ive also did some research and seems i can cancel my $45/mo hulu subscription as this has that? I miss cable, i miss the ease of a “back” or “last” button. Leaving one streaming service to open another , find the game or program i want just to check in gets tiring. Would like to start removing redundant streaming services to help offset the DirecTv Stream cost.

Data messing with my head

Been using Whoop for a while now and it’s been mostly positive. Im happy with what I see, low RHR, good HRV, above-average strain most days, consistent sleep and recovery scores. It confirmed I’m already living pretty healthy, lifting heavy, eating clean, managing stress, sleeping 7-8 hours each night. All the basics are there.

Lately it’s starting to mess with me. I’ll see sleep debt creep up a bit and suddenly I’m skipping a night out with my wife because I don’t want to make it worse or I’ll obsess over a 1-2% dip and push harder the next day. I have an addictive personality anyway, so this thing just feeds right into my “always optimize, always one-up myself” mindset. It’s turning into this constant mental game instead of just living.

I know what I need to do without the device telling me every morning. The data addiction is starting to take away from actual life, quality time, spontaneity, not stressing over tiny fluctuations, etc.

Anyone else go through this? Did quitting (or taking a break) help you get some freedom back? TY!

Looks help obviously, but i love his hairstyle. What would I ask for when I go? Currently my hair is longer, about 5-6in up top and 2-3 inches on the sides and back, fronts longer and i push it back and to the side.

Hate when my sides get long as they have the consistency of my beard , very wiry and coarse so they stick outwards. Feel like a shorter style would help here. Also have a tough cowlick right in the front so leave that long usually.
