Had no idea a broken pipe could stay hidden like this

Had no idea a broken pipe could stay hidden like this

About 2-3 weeks ago I saw our water bill and it was unexpectedly higher than usual

I figured maybe we’d just used more water than usual somehow and didn’t think too much of it

Then a weird damp spot started showing up on the living room wall right next to the bathroom

But the bathroom itself looked completely fine. No puddles, no dripping, no water on the floor, nothing under the vanity, nothing around the shower

Still I decided not to roll the dice with it and called Top Flow Plumbing Services just to have someone check whether maybe the shower cabin or vanity unit was leaking somewhere behind the scenes

Turns out the issue was way worse than I expected and there was a broken pipe inside the wall, and every time someone used water anywhere in the house, it was slowly leaking into the wall cavity

Basically the house had been quietly drinking water 24/7 while I stood there wondering why the bill looked insane…

The good thing is they found it pretty quickly once they started checking properly. They had to remove a few tiles to get to the pipe, fixed everything up, and somehow even managed to put the tiles back without making the bathroom look like a demolition zone afterward

Honestly kind of scary thinking how long that could’ve gone unnoticed if the wet spot hadn’t shown up

And I’m curious what could happen? What to do to avoid problems like this in the future?

Best spots to catch the sunset without the massive crowds?

Hey everyone! I’m planning a trip to Tenerife soon and I'm trying to map out some solid evening plans. While I know the sunset from the top of El Teide is the legendary go-to, I’m really looking for those low-key, dramatic coastal views where you can actually hear the waves instead of a hundred camera shutters. Whether it's a quiet rocky cove near Los Gigantes, a hidden viewpoint in the north, or just a chill beach bar where locals actually hang out, I’d love to find a spot with great vibes that feels a bit more secluded.

does anyone else feel like their cat has completely different personalities depending on the hour?

during the day my cat acts like the calmest creature alive. she sleeps peacefully ignores everyone barely moves and looks emotionally above all human problems. then suddenly around midnight she transforms into an absolute chaotic gremlin sprinting through the apartment attacking invisible enemies screaming at walls demanding attention and acting like shes possessed
its honestly so dramatic that sometimes it feels like i live with two completely different cats depending on the time of day. and somehow the nighttime chaos always starts exactly when im finally trying to relax or sleep. does anyone else feel like their cat becomes a completely different personality after a certain hour or is mine just deeply committed to nighttime destruction?

planning my first iceland trip this october and im obsessed with doing the golden circle tour

ive wanted to visit iceland for the last six years after seeing all those insane northern lights videos and glacier photos. the landscapes just look like another planet and im finally making it happen next october when the nights get dark enough for good aurora chances but the weather isnt totally brutal yet.

ive spent way too much time on guide to iceland lately and their golden circle tour keeps coming up as the one everyone recommends for first timers. it hits thingvellir national park the geysir area and gullfoss waterfall all in one day with a small group and solid guides so you dont have to figure out driving or parking yourself.

im so pumped but also a little nervous about the cold and what to pack. anyone done the golden circle tour recently was it actually worth it or should i mix in something else? also any real talk on northern lights odds in early october?

cheers for any tips guys

Did you know that some VoIPs enhance emergency calls??? I didn’t

I’ve had an Ooma box for a couple of years basically just to have a cheap "house phone", as I didn’t really like the idea of a landline, but the other day I realised I am so glad I never got rid of it. (I wanted to remove the service after it never got used, but didn’t have the time for it really). My mom had an accident at home yesterday and called 911 and it immediately came up on my screen, as my number is associated with the service. It was nothing serious, but I didn’t know about this feature. I was just thinking how handy it can be in different situations and how I don’t have to overthink everything while I am not home (I have a small child and my mom takes care of him one day a week when I am in the office).

Also, it saves your home address!!! The idea that I’d know the second something went wrong—rather than finding out thirty minutes later when I finally check my phone—is such a huge relief. It’s one of those things you hope you never, ever need, but now that I know it’s there, I can't believe it's not a bigger selling point. If you have one of these boxes sitting in your office, just turn this feature on if its not already (mine was on, probably was turned on initially). There are load of other stuff you can do with it, I will look into them all for sure.

4mo old wakes every 45 min - am I doing something wrong?

Started Ferber 5 days ago. Nights 1-3 were amazing (only 2 wake-ups). Nights 4 and 5? Disaster. She's waking every 45-60 min screaming. I've been doing check-ins every 10 min but she won't settle unless I feed her.

Am I confusing her by feeding at some wakes but not others? Should I just pull the plug and go full extinction? I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Schedule: 1.75/1.75/2/2.25. Falls asleep independently at bedtime with no props.

How do you handle co-parenting without constant conflict?

We’re trying to keep things civil for the kids, but even small decisions turn into arguments. It’s exhausting and I worry they’re picking up on the tension more than we think. I want to keep things stable for them, but it feels like we’re stuck in the same patterns. If you’ve managed to make co-parenting work, what actually helped reduce the conflict?

What business loans did you use when the bank rejected you?

The banks knocked me back again last week for a small loan to buy some new equipment. My business is still fairly new so my revenue isn’t where they want it to be. Super annoying because I know I can make it work if I just get a bit of capital behind me.

I’m curious, for those of you who’ve been rejected by the bank, what did you end up doing? Did you go through a broker, try a non-bank lender, or something else?

A friend recently used Ezy Pzy Finance when the banks said no to him and he said they were pretty easy to deal with. Has anyone else had experience with them or other options that actually came through?

▲ 530 r/Dallas

I’ve been to five different places (Deep Ellum, Uptown, Plano, Frisco, and one in Oak Cliff) and it’s identical. Quick 9-minute cleaning, then the treatment coordinator comes in with a packet: $4,200 for Invisalign, $2,300 for deep cleaning, $800 night guard.

I make decent money but I’m not trying to drop $7k on teeth I didn’t complain about.

One office in Plano required a $350 deposit just to be seen for x-rays.

Has anyone found a real dentist in Dallas that’s straightforward and doesn’t make you feel guilty for saying no? A buddy mentioned Smile Partners USA but I’m hesitant.

Been hitting local thrift stores but it's pretty hit or miss. eBay prices feel insane for anything pre-2000

Are estate sales the move? Facebook Marketplace? Somewhere else I'm not thinking of?

Looking for playline stuff from the 80s and 90s mostly, nothing super rare, just don't want to pay collector markup for dolls in okay condition

I’ve got around $40k sitting in savings and I’m unsure how much of that should stay as cash.

I know the usual advice is to keep an emergency fund, but beyond that I’m not sure where to draw the line.

with interest rates where they are, part of me is okay leaving more in savings, but I also don’t want to miss out on investing long term.

curious what others are doing at the moment.

Was just reading through an old forum from like 2008 and it hit me how fundamentally different the web used to feel. back then the whole magic of being online was absolute anonymity. you could be anyone, and nobody questioned if you were actually a real person sitting behind a keyboard.

now? it honestly feels like walking through a crowded city where 90% of the people are just mannequins on automated tracks. the dead internet theory isn't even a conspiracy theory anymore, it's just our exhausting daily reality. between the relentless engagement farming, the corporate botnets, and the automated comment sections, it’s getting to the point where I genuinely doubt if half the interactions I have online are with actual carbon-based lifeforms. it's incredibly isolating tbh. you just feel completely drained trying to sift through the noise.

it’s wild to think about how society is going to adapt to this, because software clearly can't catch software anymore. the only actual way out of this mess seems to be anchoring our digital presence to our physical biology. I was reading about the push for this recently, like the Reddit CEO talking about using Face ID just to verify human presence, or exploring dedicated hardware like that Orb to securely verify human uniqueness. it’s honestly fascinating that we actually need physical, biometric anchors now just to prove we physically exist before joining a discussion.

but it also brings up such a crazy dilemma. we are basically trading the wild west of the early internet for a gated community where you have to prove your humanity at the door just to escape the spam farms. i completely get why it has to happen - hardware verification is basically the only reliable tool we have left to save any sense of genuine human connection online and keep platforms usable.

it's just a massive paradigm shift. what happens to the concept of the digital alter-ego? idk, maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic today. does anyone else feel a little weird witnessing the total collapse of the anonymous internet, even if it's necessary to save it?
