What was the first Korean drama you ever watched? Mine was Boys Over Flowers.
Boys Over Flowers is a highly popular South Korean drama that tells the story of Geum Jan-di, a bright and gritty girl from a poor family who runs a dry-cleaning shop. One day, while delivering laundry to the ultra-exclusive Shin Hwa High School, she saves a student from taking his own life due to severe bullying. To quiet the public outrage, the wealthy school offers Jan-di a full scholarship. When she arrives, she finds the school ruled by the F4, a group of the four richest, most handsome, and most arrogant boys led by Gu Jun-pyo, the spoiled heir to the massive Shin Hwa Group. The F4 bullies anyone who crosses them by giving them a dreaded "red card," which signals the entire school to torment that person. Jan-di speaks up against their cruelty to protect her only friend, earning her own red card and becoming their next target. However, her fierce refusal to back down surprises Gu Jun-pyo, who has never been challenged before. Slowly, his annoyance turns into intense romantic feelings for her. Meanwhile, Jan-di develops a crush on Yoon Ji-hu, a quiet and gentle F4 member who acts as her protector during her hardest times. This creates a tense love triangle, especially as Ji-hu struggles with his own past heartbreaks. As Jun-pyo works hard to win Jan-di's heart, she begins to see his vulnerable, caring side hidden behind his rough exterior. Their relationship faces major hurdles, primarily from Jun-pyo’s cold and powerful mother, who stops at nothing to break them apart because of Jan-di's low social status. Despite kidnappings, forced separations, memory loss, and family pressure, the drama explores themes of deep friendship, loyalty, and true love overcoming huge class divides.
