William Franklyn-Miller as Carl. I said what I said!

Taron is a great option, maybe the best! But he’s a bit too old for Carl, especially considering the series has potential to run 9+ seasons.

After watching Young Washington, William Franklyn-Miller should be thrown a bone imo. He is only 22, and of average build. Which will allow him to physically grow into the role, just as Carl does in the books. He is also 6’4”, and the boy can act. Most importantly, he is a breath of fresh air (and youth) to the usual 6.5 actors we see over and over in Hollywood.

It’s the Hope that Kills

I work in a major children’s hospital, and I was wondering if anyone else has similar sentiments. Withdrawing my patients, is often relieving for me, as I know how much pain and suffering they were in. Of course it is awesome when they get better and live full lives, but sometimes they get dealt a poor hand, and that’s part of the job.

The hardest part for me, is when the family won’t accept the truth, that their child will never, or only marginally improve. Some are dissonant they think their severe HIE child is still going to be an engineer, dentist, or fireman. Or don’t understand why I am making them learn how to do Trach care/ changes.

Part of the issue is that the providers are not painting a clear picture, but it is definitely not our responsibility to do that. So it ends up that the hardest part of my job is that it’s “The Hope that Kills”, to quote Ted Lasso. Swing and hearing parents or family that have not grasped that their child will never even be close to the same, is truly heartbreaking.

And then the juxtaposition of when they do realize, and they begin to decline mentally, or even worse, they just give up. Seeing that seems to be chipping away at my soul more and more. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice to cope with this niche issue.

Prop Question

I am on my way but I am worried my DCC cosplay props might get rejected. They have cheap aluminum spikes as pictured, and just saw the “no metal spikes” rule. They are not sharp, and I can clip them if you look closely in second pic so they are just “studs”. Should I clip them to be dull now, or see if they get rejected first and clip them there?

Thank you, You Will Not Break Me!

Fishing near Kill Devil Hills

I’m taking my family out next weekend, my kids 11f & 7m are dying to go fishing and crabbing. My wife…… not so much as she is currently vomiting just thinking about a boat. She does fine on the larger boats though, so I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for the larger charter fishing boats that have like 30 people?

Apply to ALL the scholarships!

Just wanted to say that I see lots of people asking about financial aid and grants to pay for CPCC. I am telling you: just apply to all the scholarships you qualify for. CPCC gets huge amounts of scholarships, and every semester thousands of scholarships are left on the table unclaimed. The more in demand your degree, the more money available. Yes you might have to do an essay, or letters of recommendation, but it’s free money just sitting around waiting to be picked up!!!

Do S2000 owners wave at each other?

No, because we never see each other unless we are within 1 mile of a Cars and Coffee.
