Lost a year already. Repeating first year at a local college. Should I try CUET again for DU, or start Actuarial Science?

My situation: myquals

· 10th: 80%

· 12th: 65% (Commerce)

· 2025-26: Took admission in a local college, attempted a partial drop for CUET. Didn't complete the syllabus. Didn't get a good DU college. Wasted the year.

· 2026-27: Repeating first year at another local college (tier-3, placements around ₹2 LPA). Classes are roughly 4 hours a day, weekends free. I can manage attendance strategically.

· Graduation timeline: If I stay here, I graduate 2029. My original batch graduates 2028. Already one year behind.

The dilemma:

Option A: Prepare for CUET 2027 alongside this repeated first year. If I get a good DU college, I join Year 1 again in 2027 and graduate in 2030 (two years behind my batch). The upside: better college brand, better placements (₹5-8 LPA), better network. The downside: two years lost total, risk of failing CUET again, and the embarrassment of being seen by juniors at the exam centre.

Option B: Forget CUET. Stay at my local college. Start Actuarial Science papers now (CS1/CM1). Graduate in 2029 with 3 papers cleared and get a job in actuarial/analytics. The upside: no more entrance exams, career progress starts immediately, actuarial doesn't care about past marks. The downside: no college brand, harder MBA path if actuarial doesn't work, and the one year already lost still stings.

My profile is already damaged for MBA (65% in 12th kills old IIM chances). CUET into DU could give me placements and a brand, but the time cost is heavy. Actuarial is difficult with high dropout rates, and I'll be studying it from a tier-3 college with no peer support.

What would you do in my position? Pure honest judgement. I can handle bluntness.

---

TL;DR: 12th 65%. Already lost one year. Repeating Year 1 at a ₹2 LPA placement college. Try CUET again for DU (graduate 2030, two years behind) or start Actuarial Science now (graduate 2029, build credentials instead of college brand)?

Should I take another drop year or accept my fate

Myquals- currently in second year of college I couldn't prep for cuet properly due to health issues and poor mental health, i have right conditions now to prepare. But it costs lot of time approx 2 yrs . I would be in 3rd year in my local college compare to starting from fresh . I have bad percentage in class 12th(65%) so i am already out of shortlisted list for top 18 iims ik there are some colleges like FMS delhi xlri but FMS delhi has very less seats . I am very confused on what to do . I was thinking for acturial science but again it's a very long course . Any advice would be helpful.

18M, second year college student, confused between CAT, Actuarial Science, CUET again, CS, and other options. Need realistic advice.

I'm 18 years old and currently in the second year of college in India.

My academics are:

Class 10: 80%

Class 12: 65%

I already gave CUET twice. I even took a partial drop at one point, but things didn't work out as planned and now I'm already in college.

The problem is that I feel stuck between multiple career options and don't know which path gives me the best chance of building a successful career.

Options I'm considering:

  1. CAT/MBA

I could start preparing now and have around 18 months before CAT.

However, my profile isn't great (80/65 academics).

From what I understand, top IIMs heavily consider past academics.

FMS Delhi seems more score-focused, but getting in is obviously very difficult.

  1. Actuarial Science

I find it interesting.

The exam path is long and difficult.

I'm worried about spending years on exams only to discover later that I don't enjoy the actual work.

Financially I can afford the first few exams, but not an endless number of attempts.

  1. Company Secretary (CS)

Another professional qualification I've considered.

Not sure about future opportunities, work-life balance, and growth compared to MBA or actuarial science.

  1. CUET Again

Part of me still thinks about trying once more for a better college. I wasn't able to prep due to bad conditions but I have right conditions now .

But I've already attempted it twice and I'm not sure if repeating again makes sense when I'm already in second year(just started).

Some additional context:

I'm underweight and trying to improve my health and gain muscle.

I tend to overthink decisions and often feel like choosing one option means permanently closing the door on another.

My family isn't in a position to spend huge amounts of money on expensive professional programs.

I want a career with strong long-term earning potential, but I also don't want to waste years chasing something unrealistic.

If you were in my position, what would you do over the next 2-3 years?

Would you:

Focus entirely on CAT?

Start actuarial exams alongside college?

Pursue CS?

Ignore all of these and focus on building skills + internships first?

Need guidance: confused between CAT, CS, Actuarial, Modelling, CUET — want to leave my city and become independent

I made this post using chat gpt so sorry for that.

I’m currently in my 2nd year of college and I’m honestly very confused about my career direction.

My main goal is simple: I want to leave my current city, become independent, and build a stable life somewhere else.

But I keep getting stuck between multiple options:

Options I’m considering:

  1. CAT (MBA route)

This seems like the most common option for moving to a new city and getting exposure

But I’m worried about my profile (10th: 80%, 12th: 65%)

Also unsure how realistic top colleges like FMS/XLRI are

  1. Company Secretary (CS)

Structured professional course

Feels more “stable”

But takes multiple years and I don’t know about exit opportunities or lifestyle

  1. Actuarial Science

Looks financially strong long-term

But requires many exams over years (6–8+)

Not sure if I even want to do that kind of math-heavy career

  1. Modelling (editorial interest)

I’m 6 ft tall and somewhat interested in editorial modelling

But I don’t know how realistic it is as a career or if it can even lead to independence

  1. CUET (SRCC or similar colleges)

If I somehow get into a top DU college like SRCC, it could be a big upgrade

But it means restarting UG and losing time

My situation / confusion:

I feel like every option has some problem:

CAT = uncertain admission

CS/Actuary = long time commitment

Modelling = unstable

CUET = restart college

Job skill route = not sure where to start

My main issue is: I don’t want to stay stuck in my current city and situation.

But I also don’t want to make a wrong decision that wastes years.

What I need help with:

Which path actually gives realistic independence in 2–3 years?

Should I focus only on CAT or keep backups?

Is CS or Actuary worth considering seriously?

Is modelling even worth exploring or just a distraction?

Am I overthinking or missing something obvious?

Any honest advice would help.
