With the litter robot four how much litter do you go through, and how quickly?

I have two cats. It seems like I go through a box of litter each month. So I don’t think it’s saving me in terms of litter, but I’ve heard that it does save on litter. What am I doing wrong? I use arm and hammer slide

School starts on Tuesday and I already have parents complaining about school supplies

I teach second and fourth grade at a private school and I have the same students I had last year. So I know the parents really well. I already have a parent calling me and complaining about the amount of school supplies that I’m asking them to get. The parent says that having them get crayons is too babyish. I asked them for three packages of 24 count crayons. He also thinks that three glue sticks is too excessive. As well as three packages of colored pencils. Is this too excessive for a year? Did I go overboard with my school supply list amounts? Obviously there’s more items that I have on the school supply list such as pencils and erasers and scissors, etc., but these are the three things that he complained about. Is fourth grade too old to use crayons?

Edit: somebody posted on here that crayons are $.50 each. So I went to walmart.com and saw that Crayola crayons are $.50 each on the website and colored pencils aren’t much more. So three packages of colored pencils and three boxes of crayons would be less than $5.

I guess I really do need my hearing aids

I got hearing aids in early June. Yesterday I forgot them because I’m not used to wearing them. I always put on my eyeglasses, but I’m absolutely blind without my eyeglasses. But I have quite a bit of hearing still left. I was talking to my boss Yesterday and he said to me, “did you talk to London about…?“ I told him I didn’t know anyone named London. He repeated himself and said, “Glendon“. Oops! I guess I do need hearing aids because I didn’t catch that.😂

Anyone teach a multigrade elementary class? How do you do your schedule?

Looking for tips to set my school schedule this year. I teach two elementary grades simultaneously all day. I feel like I don’t have enough time to teach my subjects though because I have to fit so much in. Any suggestions?

Edit: it’s grades two and four. And no, I can’t combine any subjects except for music and art. All of their other subjects are separate: language, arts, reading, math, science, history, penmanship, etc..

RIC hearing aids

How far are domes supposed to go in your ear? I’m wondering if I’m pushing them in too deeply or not pushing them in enough?

Had a first today

I’m relatively new to hearing aids having gotten them in early June. I had two interesting encounters at the airport. In one encounter, a passenger yelled at me for having earbuds while talking to her. In the other instance, the TSA checkpoint person wanted me to put my earbuds in the bin. I told him they were hearing aids. I have RIC behind the ear. But I do have tube twists on the wires that are blue. Just wondering if anybody else has gone through interesting interactions because of your hearing aids?

Rewards or no rewards?

I struggle with whether to give rewards in my elementary classroom. I know that some people feel that rewards are detrimental to students because it doesn’t help them build intrinsic motivation. Other people say you have to start with extrinsic motivation and then intrinsic motivation builds so you should use rewards. And then I just read a book about students with ADHD suggesting you reward them as much as possible because they need a lot of rewards in order to cope with their ADHD and the expectations. Now I’m really confused. I’m debating whether to use a classroom economy where they pay rent for their desk, but they get paid for classroom jobs. I had students fumbling and complaining when they had to do classroom jobs last year, but I think classroom jobs are important, and my school really values them. Last year, didn’t get anything for doing classroom jobs. And it’s hard for me to keep track of motivational systems and incentive systems. I did have one incentive system based on getting work completed, but any other incentive systems kind of fell by the wayside. Anybody have any ideas for me?

Anybody feel like people talk too fast?

I’ve had my hearing aids for a moth but I still feel like people talk too fast for me to catch what they are saying.

What do I do with a student who constantly has a hand up?

I have an elementary student who as soon as he enters the room he has a question or comment. Through each lesson he has a question or comment. He is very literal thinking. It takes a lot of time to answer questions, but sometimes they are good questions.

Tips on getting retention locks to stay in place

I just got retention locks and one of them stays in my left ear beautifully. But it won’t stay in my right ear very well. I got it to stay in nicely one time so I know it’ll fit if I can get it just stay in.

Was told my package was “at or near the front porch”. My apartment has three porches for the three different units. It wasn’t on any of the porches…

I checked the three porches, the mailbox, and then happened to walk completely around and saw this underneath. It was under my porch… In the rain. I almost didn’t see it.

Just got new RIC. New hearing aid wearer

Looking for some advice from people who’ve worn RIC for a while. I’m just worried that my RIC are going to be too fragile and that I will break the wire or something. I don’t want to get BTE because my hearing loss is not that bad yet. But I think those are more durable. Has anyone been using RIC for more than a year? Are they a new product or have they been around for a while? How long do they last?

Working and living in an area that does not have good Verizon coverage?

I’m going to be working in an area this summer where my new boss has told me that Verizon and Sprint do not have a good coverage, but AT&T and T-Mobile do. My problem is I have Verizon. I have an iPhone 13. I will be living where I work. It’s a short term five week situation. What do you guys recommend?

Looking for a word that I grew up with… might be something like palatuec or paratuec

I grew up with people saying this word and it meant crazy. They would use it to describe another person and say they were paratuec or palatuec. But I don’t know how to spell it or exactly how to pronounce it. This might be a Mexican Spanish word given where I grew up.

Edit: Just to give a little more clarity, another commentor mentioned it might be puro something. That sounds about right. I’m just trying to figure out the rest of it.

If parents can do a better job homeschooling, why should I even be a teacher?

I’m feeling really defeated. I went to college for my education and spent tens of thousands of dollars to become a teacher. And this last weekend I took a really hard science of reading test so that I could continue teaching. But I’m seeing so much support of homeschooling. People think that teachers are bad and indoctrinating children. But if a parent who doesn’t even have a college degree can do my job, what am I even doing? I mean, you wouldn’t fix your injuries yourself, you’d go to the doctor. You wouldn’t build your house yourself, you’d hire a contractor. But parents can just educate their children at home using any curriculum or no curriculum at all for the unschoolers. So what am I even doing teaching? Why did I spend tens of thousands of dollars for this degree if anybody can do my job?

Elementary teachers: two questions – when it’s time to move from one subject to another, and you have students who aren’t finished, do you let them finish? And where do you put the unfinished work?

OK, let me offer some clarification. Let’s say you’ve just done language arts and it’s now time to move to math, but you have a few students who aren’t done with their language arts. Do you give them more time or do you move onto math? Let’s say the students chronically have a hard time finishing. Meanwhile, you have other students who have finished and are ready to move on.

If you move on, where do you have them put their unfinished work? I’ve tried having them put the work in their desk, but it gets lost and not completed, I’ve tried having them, put it underneath their desk on the floor, but it just makes a big mess. I’ve also tried having them take it over to the carpet and put it on a certain spot on the carpet, but then that just makes my room look cluttered as well. Any ideas?

Yesterday was the last day of school and tomorrow is the school picnic. My administrator told me today:

“Oh by the way, what gifts are you getting your students? It’s a tradition here that teachers get gifts for the students“ 🙄😩😡 it’s a small community and a small school so I couldn’t say no.
