What makes the 1996 version so much better

So I just recently restarted the 96 version with a new viewer and I’m reminded each time I revisit the show exactly why it’s so good.

The directing and pacing is incredible. There are shots and directorial decisions that feel so genius and well done. The remake just doesn’t have near as much of this and feels more like a milled out new age anime following a rubric instead of a unique work of art. The 96 version by Kazuhiro Furuhashi is just that, a work of art.

I’m a dub guy and imo this is one of the best dubs of all time. But that’s just a piece of the sound of the show, which is actually what takes it from being “great” to “a masterpiece”. And I think most of us here agree that the show is a masterpiece (at least up to the Kyoto Arc). But the sword sounds, the water, the fights in general all sound great.

And then there’s the Music. I’m sure so many have said it many times but the music of this show is unrivaled. Berserk comes close but even then there just aren’t near as many pieces to choose from. The two, ARNH, and Kimi wa literally bring tears to my eyes almost every time. And again the directing leading up to those moments where the two songs drop are immaculate. Aoshi’s second fight comes to mind. Soujiro’s epic two episode backstory/fight. Seijuro’s passing of the ultimate technique. And then in the beginning, every time that guitar would strum. The show is so great, but again what makes it my favorite of all time is that incredible and undefeated OST

Let’s all buy something from the store on Fridays

A lot of buzz recently about 2xko and the state of Rivals2. I still think Dan should start a patreon for the game but until something like that happens, let’s collectively buy something from the store on Fridays (if you can afford to).

Pretty much every person in a first world country makes purchases that we didn’t really need to. Whether it’s a soda, an energy drink, a better vape, more beer than we need, delivery instead of picking up food, whatever it is, we spend when we don’t need to.

So on Fridays I think it would be cool if we made a habit of at least buying something from the store. I bought the Dreamscapes Bundle even though I’m not a fan of the skins necessarily. Many of us care about the continuation of the game, and hopefully those of us who do can tangibly support. Buy something today (again, if you can) and let us know what you buy
