Season 2 update dropping tomorrow

Jane Wu just posted that the BES team will be attending AnimeNYC August 20th, and will be sharing some series updates with us.

I pray we get a release date...

What new maps would you like to see?

Currently enjoying the heck out of High Peaks, which is very different to many other maps. We're very spoiled with maps already, but what would you like to see that we don't already have?

For me, I'd love a waterway oriented map, with multiple islands surrounded by extensive lakes and rivers, like the north German lowlands (I know this game is set in Bavaria, but still). And maybe another alpine map.

What would you like to see?

Loving the new update, but...

Please please please flatten the terrain slightly on the river bend of the new map. I was hyped to build an island town on the bank with the river either side, but it's so sloped you can barely build anything.

(Or possibly a future update to allow plots to he developed on steeper slopes for mountainous towns).

Levels 3, 4 and 5 for castle, churches and burgage plots?

I'm so hyped we're getting an upgraded church in the latest update, but it's really got me thinking how amazing it would be if the final game lets us build full-blown cathedrals, huge castle and big brick townhouses.

With so many development tree levels, I wonder if there are any plans to further expand on the buildings available. I love the level 4 burgages, but they just feel one step short of a real cosmopolitan medieval town.

The gameplay is incredible, but more than anything else, I love creating beautiful cities.

Autism Sibling: Advice for a future caregiver?

Hi all, I'm looking to get some advice. My sibling has LV 2 autism - highly intelligent, very self-aware, funny and charismatic, but crippling (medicated) anxiety, low-level PDA, chronic fatigue from sensory burnout, PTSD from school and almost no independence skills.

We are reaching an age where our parents will soon be too old to care for her, so the current plan is that she will eventually live with me. However, I've had a few recent health scares and I'm terrified of the prospect that something might happen to me in the meantime.

She has firmly stated that she would rather kill herself than go into any kind of facility/assisted living, and cannot cope with the possibility of live-in carers. She has deep-set distrust of non-family members, as the carers she has had in the past have inevitably moved on once she's built a bond with them, and she can no longer cope with the stress of new ones coming in. We have no other family our age.

I'm here to ask for some advice from those on the spectrum who cannot live independently, or those who know someone that can't. What options do we have? How did the transition away from parents go? What has and hasn't worked for you?

Thanks in advance!

Annecy = Still no release date

It's great to have more clips of the show forthcoming but I'm honestly pretty bummed that there's still no release date. At this rate, we would be waiting until the next Annecy festival for an update.

What do you have in place for when you die?

Easily the most important question, and also the one society seems to give the fewest shits about. I will be inheriting a family member with ASD LV 2, who cannot handle assisted living or care homes due to intense anxiety. However, I am the sole safety net, and if anything happens to me, I can't see my family member surviving after my parents pass away. I have no resentment, but I do feel the pressure this situation creates.

What does everyone else have planned for their ASD kids when they are no longer able to care for them?

Terrified of having a special needs child

Just coming up 12 months pp with our first, who is an amazing baby girl. Husband and I agreed that we wouldn't discuss whether we wanted another until she's 18 months: I always strongly wanted two kids, whereas he's not keen but says he could be convinced.

But now that we're getting closer to that conversation, the realities of having a second are starting to hit. I have immediate family members on the autism spectrum (and not the cute Tiktok kind), so the genes are there, so I'm acutely aware of exactly how hard raising a disabled child is, and also how unfair it can be on a sibling.

I love my baby more than anything, and I'd be devastated for her to grow up without a sibling. I desperately want two kids, but how can I risk her happiness and our security for potentially a severely disabled child?

My kid turns one year old this month, and it's amazing

Posting here because it feels like yesterday I was desperately scrolling this sub, looking for any kind of light at the end of a very dark tunnel. My LO had bad colic, and in hindsight I definitely had PPD. Having a baby felt like a terrible mistake and I couldn't believe it was so hard and exhausting.

Well, in what feels like the blink of an eye, she's turning one and I couldn't love her more. She's gone from a screaming worm to a happy, funny, amazing kid who actually enjoys being alive, and loves me and her dad.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a very busy life compared to before I had a kid, but now it feels like a fun, exciting busy instead of just survival. Sleeping through the night and having time here and there to myself make a huge difference, and she's great fun to hang out with.

Hang in there new mothers! It gets so much better I promise!

Cider or Mead?

Love this game and having a great time building my little town, but dear god the beverage requirement is tough to maintain. It would be amazing to be able to get at least some alcohol from my apples and/or honey, but I have no idea how historically accurate it would be to have medieval Bavarians drinking either of these. Does anyone know?

What movies would be way better if they changed one small thing?

I'm thinking of the film Passengers, and the now equally well known YouTube video showing how much better the film would have been if they had started it from the female lead's perspective. It's amazing how a character death, a reordering of events or a slightly different ending can have a really big impact on how effective a film is.

So what film would you make one small change to, and what would that change be?

What are the technology rules in your house?

No judgement, I'm curious to hear how everyone is implementing/restricting technology access for their LOs.

For us, we have the TV on for the first 30 minutes of the day, playing something slow and adult like a documentary, a renovation or a hike on YouTube. This gives me a chance to recover with a coffee, and keeps LO calm but not overly interested in the screen. Then at lunch and dinner, she's allowed to have Ms Rachel playing as audio only so that I can prepare food.

What about you guys?

9 month pp and for the most part, things are good. LO is a happy little crawler, husband and I have hit a solid routine, we're both getting a more-or-less full night's sleep.

But even so, my brain feels like actual mush and I hate it so much. I can live with the physical ugliness pregnancy has given me, but I hate feeling so stupid and slow. I forget what I was going to say mid-sentence, I forget where things are the minute I put them down, and my ability to hold a conversation with anyone has fallen off a cliff.

Not only that, but my emotions feel muted. I still get happy and sad and worried, but it's in an underwater kind of way. Even my baby, who I'm supposed to be fiercely passionate about - I certainly do have moments like that towards her, but mostly I just feel kind of autopiloty and numb.

I knew baby brain was a real thing, but is this forever? When do you get your brain back?

My 9mo has transformed into an extremely enthusiastic crawler, and is having a great deal of fun terrorising my house. However, my worried mother brain is watching those hands going all over the floor in the kitchen, bathroom, hallway etc and putting god-knows-what germs in her mouth.

At the moment, I'm washing her hands before every mealtime, and if I've seen them go anywhere especially gross (like around the bin), but is this enough? Too much? We keep the place as clean as possible, but babies have an amazing habit for finding the only spots you miss.
