Would you play a Firewatch-ish game, but horror?

As a game developer, I just wanted to say that Firewatch is one of those rare games that has stayed with me long after finishing it. I’ve played it more than three times now, and every time I fall in love with it all over again. The atmosphere, the beautiful art style, the sense of isolation, the story, and even the ending, I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. The only thing I’ve ever wished for was a sequel, but sadly that doesn’t seem likely.

Because of that, I’ve been considering making a horror game inspired by some of the things I loved most about Firewatch. You would play as a newly hired fire lookout, carrying out normal daily duties while also discovering a hidden survival manual left behind by previous lookouts filled with strange rules for surviving supernatural events in the wilderness.

I’m genuinely curious: would something like that interest Firewatch fans?

For context, I’m the developer of The Mare of Jonah and the upcoming Netherwake. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I really enjoy mysterious worlds that feel like they're being consumed by something unknown. That's a big part of why I'm making Netherwake.

Still working on the game, but the demo is out.

Netherwake is slowly but surely crawling the ladder of wishlists...

Netherwake is slowly but surely climbing the wishlist charts, and we're incredibly grateful for all the support so far! Every new wishlist helps us gain visibility and brings us one step closer to launch.

If Netherwake looks like your kind of game, we'd love it if you added it to your wishlist and helped us keep the momentum going. Thank you for being part of the journey!

It’s been over a year now since I pressed the release button on Steam for the very first time…

I remember the excitement, the expectations, and the silence I was bracing myself for. Constantly refreshing the page, checking for comments, reviews, or any sign that someone, somewhere, had played the game. Watching YouTube, hoping someone might pick it up.

The launch was quiet. Slower than I had imagined. But then something unexpected happened. Creators started finding the game. Some of them quite big. And suddenly, the silence was replaced with screams, real ones. People falling out of their chairs, shouting, jumping, reacting in ways I could never have scripted myself. Those moments… that’s what I live for as a developer.

Sales might not have been something to brag about, but those reactions? They meant everything. They kept me going. And they’re a big reason why I’m now deep into working on our next project: Netherwake.

I know many of you have been asking (some of you begging 😄) for The Mare of Jonah 2. And yes, the plans are already there. But for now, my focus is on what comes next.

Who knows what I’ll dive into after that.

After countless late nights, bugs, tweaks, and second-guessing everything… this was the moment.
Final polish. Final check. Deep breath… and then I hit upload.

The Netherwake demo is now live on Steam.

It’s a first-person psychological horror experience where a creeping, unnatural fog swallows a small town and something far worse follows with it. Inspired by Lovecraftian horror, it’s less about jumpscares and more about slow, suffocating dread.

If you’re into atmospheric horror, survival tension, and that feeling of “something is very wrong here”… I’d love for you to try it.

If you enjoy it, wishlisting helps more than you’d think and feedback is gold at this stage.

Thanks for being part of the journey 🖤

I'm not sure if I should cry or laugh, cause it's that time again. Yeah you know what I'm talking about. Time to get down on my knees begging everyone of you for just one more wishlist so that my game can reach that magic number - a number that may or may not allow me to continue my work, in my cold small dark room... day and night. Just to tell another weird and crazy horror story through that modern tech of a game engine that constantly keeps on throwing new updates of stuff that I guess I don't really need but that looks kinda cool.

Sorry for babling, it's been a really rough day, week, month, year... and the Netherwake Chapter One project is almost done... and I think I am running really low on gas here... If this project fails, I'm out. So, this is the part where I get down on my knees. Please, no... pretty please check out my demo, if you like it, leave a nice review. If you don't like it, well that's life. But most of all, please add it to your wishlist, it would mean everything to me as a tired, almost burnt out Netherwake developer.
