An Image Of 90’s Comic Collecting

An Image Of 90’s Comic Collecting

Sighhhh… why…

Stored at the bottom of the bottom of the bottom stack of books, I have finally dug my way to the Image titles.

Haven’t seen these in 20+ years. Haven’t been compelled to either. Read every one of these once, then carefully bagged and boarded. Even looking at them now, I remember so very little of any of them, other than “yay, big boobs all around.”

Looks like Gen 13 was the winner, followed by Wildcats, then savage dragon, (which I hate read every single issue of, but Larsen still got my money, so the jokes on me), then Wetworks, Grifter, Backlash, and finally Spawn.

Never really took to Youngblood or Stormwatch or Brigade.

Really wish I’d collected The Maxx, and more of Team 7.

It was a different time… I don’t regret it, but really wish I had been a little more selective in my purchases.

For the fans out there, what did you collect the most stuff out of these? Am I missing any of the obvious ones from the first couple of years? Would you recommend rereading any of them?

Desert (Ark) Wagon

I was so excited to see that the Lark Wagon has a place of prominence outside the Arizona – Sonoran Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona. Beautiful machine with a fantastic history.

Roadtrip LCS Reviews (3/3)

Comic Warehouse, Albuquerque

Old school comic shop! Small and compact but still clean and organized. There to sell books, trades, and a few other odds and ends.

Staff was friendly/helpful/knowledgeable.

Looked like all it was very up-to-date with current comics. Solid inventory of older comics. Prices were fair and adjusted for book conditions.

Purchased +/- $60

Austin Books & Comics

Compact and extremely clean and organized store. Presented much like a small Barnes and Noble Bookstore. (Really never seen a comic book store this clean, lol)

Inventory was wide open with quite a bit of modern work. Books, trades, anime, statues, and much more. Definitely a modern collectors store.

Staff was polite but involved with regular customers and did not notice us.

Solid back issue selection. Quantity of backstock was more recent - some Gold/Silver/Bronze content. Prices were on the high side. One small sales table with nothing of significance. No $2 boxes that I saw.

Purchased +/- $45

Vintage HW and Playset

Digging through the old toys and thought they might look better photographed on their old home!

Hot Wheels Flying Colors Country Life Playset. Everything here was played with daily for years. Was fun to set them up again after all this time!

(Yes, that’s the Matchbox Service Station…got way more Matchbox players than HW…never mattered to me.)

Gifted to me today

Received these from an old friend today along with a handful of similar era Matchbox. In played with condition but that just gives ‘em character. Couple of redline stragglers in the back of the pic as well.

Some Display Blackwalls

Here’s a few that are within reach at the moment. Birthday gifts from the original years more-or-less. Played with hard and fast!
